Ohm (12:30 PM)
Wud up ya'll? Hope you are staying cool somewhere. Let's get this thing crackin! send me NYG questions, fantasy questions... we can talk old school hip-hop, girls, whatever!
Wassup Ohm. Do You think the G-Men will leave Bulluck in the middle I think he's a way better fit then Goff being there.
Ohm (12:30 PM)
Shakoor... wud up? I think Bulluck is at outside now. Looks like Goff is the man in the middle for now. If he struggles, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bulluck move back to middle. But for now, he is on the outside.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Which Players who plays for the Giants & Jets are Out for the season?
Ohm (12:31 PM)
CF, don't you read any of my stories? LOL. Sorgi, Moss, A. Tracy are out for the year.
Ohm Boogie whats good bro? You been leaving my questions off the chat for a while now. With O'hara's ankle continuing to flare up, what do you see of the chances of Andrews playing at left guard and not moving Diehl?
Ohm (12:32 PM)
Ray, what? My bad. If I didn't answer your question before, it's likely because I answered it earlier in the chat. That's the only time I don't answer a question. I think Diehl will be the starting LT. Wouldn't be surprised to see Seubert start at LG and then later in the season, maybe Andrews works his way into the lineup at LG.
Wud up, Big Ohm!? Seriously...Matt Leinart? Do you think it would be smart for the Gmen to bring this guy in to back up Eli? Thanks man.
Ohm (12:35 PM)
DC... how you doing? Yeah, according to our guy Adam Schefter, Giants reached out to the Cards. I think the Giants are doing what they have to do and look into all options for backups. Do I think it's a good idea? Eh... I think if Leinart were cool with backing up Manning, then yes. But I don't think he wants to be a backup. He wants to start. So from that standpoint, probably not good. I believe he has a sizeable contract as well. But if they could land Leinart for little -- I think the Cards want to unload him fast -- then it would be good since Bomar is all they really got behind Manning.
Hey Ohm, Do you think the Giants will bring in one of the Vikings QBs once final cuts are made?
Ohm (12:37 PM)
I think the Giants will look at all quarterbacks released this weekend. And certainly if someone good is cut by the Vikings, then yes, I can see the Giants being all over that. They could even be looking into a trade if they can get one for little. But if I were with the Vikings, I'd keep Sage Rosenfels since Favre should be done after this season.
What veteran do you think will be cut that the Giants could pick up to fill some holes. I would love to see a decent veteran CB picked up to provide some depth. Out top three are great when healthy but Bruce Johnson scares me a little especially when Ross tends to be out a lot.
Ohm (12:39 PM)
Jared, I think the Giants can use another CB too. Ross could have an injury that will bother him for some time. Bruce Johnson isn't bad though. He is pretty good fourth corner. But after that... the Giants could use some help.
Notorious OHM! I love your work. What do you think the O-Line will look like on September 12? (such as O'Hara injury, Andrews, Diehl's position). Also, how is Ross healing. If healthy, I believe this team could make a run. I just feel like the injury bug has continued from 09.
Ohm (12:40 PM)
Thanks AG! Appreciate it. I think the line will start with Diehl at LT, Seubert at LG, O'Hara at C, Snee at RG and McKenzie at RT. Andrews isn't ready yet. Ross will be re-evaluated and we should know more after game or on Friday. Health is a big deal with the Giants. Fortunately, most of the guys do not have serious injuries.
Frank (Spring, TX)
Leinart? Why not go for Pennington?
Ohm (12:41 PM)
Well I think Chad is still in Miami, if I'm not wrong. Leinart is on the trading block. And you always want to see what the deal is when young talent hits the market.
harris (denver, co)
I'm a little worried about the Giants offensive line, feels like we have taken it for granted the past few years but they're getting older... how do they look? will the be a dominant force this year?
Ohm (12:42 PM)
Harris, the Giants offensive line has been banged up, for sure. We have yet to see them play together in a game because guys have been hurt. We certainly haven't seen anything dominant out of them yet but let's see when they are healthy.
whats good Ohm? Low end theory or MIdnight Marauders?nah just playing.are Victor Cruz special teams skills good enough to make him worthy of a roster spot?
Ohm (12:44 PM)
Anthony... oooooooh! Wow. I love both of those albums. But I am going to go Midnight Marauders. Used to listen to that CD nonstop. Cruz should be on the roster when all is said and done no matter what happens on special teams. With Sinorice Moss on IR, and Cruz having played very well in games, I think he's on the roster. Be SHOCKED if not.
Young...I won't ask you about a backup QB b/c you are probably being inundated by those questions. I guess I'll make this a Shaun Andrews question....how's he looking at practice?
Ohm (12:45 PM)
Wud up. He's coming along. Still learning the offense. He's been putting in the time, going in on off days to work with the coaching staff. Physically he looks good. A bit rusty I think but he looks strong and no issues with the back so far. Needs more time to get into the mix. And yes, I knew you were joking about Tuck last week.
Robbie (Teaneck, NJ)
Is the Giants running game going to get back on track after a bad '09?
Ohm (12:46 PM)
Robbie, hard to say so far. In the preseason, the running game hasn't looked stellar. Shown a few flashes here and there. Bradshaw has looked better on the majority of the carries. Jacobs hasn't had much work though in the games. But looks like Bradshaw is the starter and Jacobs will get carries.
Frank (Spring, TX)
Do you see Cruz cracking the lineup as a slot receiver if he continues to flash? If he survives the cut (I believe he will), I'd hate to see him only on special teams and five wide formations.
Ohm (12:47 PM)
I think Cruz will make the roster. As far as slot... I don't see that yet. He's fifth on the depth chart, likely, behind Ramses Barden. Now if Ramses is hurt and can't play, then Cruz could see time. Cruz might even be behind Derek Hagan. But he has done well and has been exciting against the reserves.
With the final pre-season game tomorrow.... who is on the roster bubble? How many RB's, WR's, CB's do the Giants plan to put on the final 53 man roster?
Ohm (12:50 PM)
J, wud up? Putting me on the spot! LOL. I haven't studied the roster like that just yet. Been focused on writing other stuff like Leinart and Bomar and other stuff. I would say that I think the Giants will keep Bradshaw, Jacobs, Brown, Ware and maybe Gartrell Johnson goes on practice squad. WRs: Smith, Nicks, Manningham, Barden, Hagan, Cruz. Brown may stick with a good special teams showing. Or go on practice squad. Calhoun has made a lot of receptions in practice this week. Could be practice squad as well.
iPhone_Money (Big D)
Wk1 WR3 start Maclin,Jacoby or M Williams fr Seattle
Ohm (12:51 PM)
Hmmm... Check on Maclin's and DeSean Jackson's health obviously before the game. Jacoby has looked great in preseason. If Jacoby is starting, you got a real dilemma between Maclin and Jacoby. I'd go Maclin.
Ohm...Goff has looked ok in the middle but in coverage he seems completely lost.....is Sintim really that much worst to where we need Bulluck in his spot and leave John Goff manning the middle?Goff is not the answer to me...what say you?
Ohm (12:53 PM)
Anthony, I hear you. But they seem to think Goff is solid enough. They want the three best linebackers out there in the 4-3 and my opinion is they want to get Bulluck out there and it appears the weak link of the previous starting three is Sintim. Otherwise they would not have thrown Bulluck from middle to outside. But in passing situations, I have seen quite a bit of Bulluck and Boley out there. So that could be the situation when they go to nickel.
Dan Bayat (London, UK)
As much as the obvious weakness for the Giants going into this season has been the secondary and linebackers, shouldn't the running game be as much of a worry with inconsistant play by the o-line and Brandon Jacobs getting back to 08 form? If that doesn't happen will the Giants be able to win?
Ohm (12:54 PM)
Dan, absolutely. No running game, the offense is forced to pass too much and Tom Coughlin has what he hates - an unbalanced offense. Giants must run to win. I am a firm believer in that. Can't throw the long ball if run isn't established.
Has Eli Manning's head stopped bleeding yet? That was nasty cut he got a couple weeks ago.
Ohm (12:54 PM)
Fortunately for all of us, he stopped bleeding that night. LOL!
I am really getting tired of reading these injury reports...groins, hammies, plantar faciatisisis...i know football is a violent sport and injuries are a part of it but the past two seasons have been brutal...super bad luck or maybe time to replace the strength and conditioning coach? and who have they decided on returning punts? thanks bro....go big blue
Ohm (12:56 PM)
Dude... what about the people who write the damn injury reports? Think it's fun counting on the field who is hurt and whether they are on the field or not or doing anything, every day! LOL. I think they aren't as hurt as it appears. Truly believe if there was a game tomorrow, many would be able to play. Not Aaron Ross, though. His injury could take some time. As far as punt returns, Manningham was the guy in the last game with Tim Brown. I think they'd ideally want Tim Brown or Cruz to emerge but may not trust the young guys. And Big Blue better be for the Giants and not Michigan! LOL.
Ladanian Tomlinson is s free agent in my fantasy league... Should I pick him up?
Ohm (12:57 PM)
Don't know who the last person is on your roster to cut but yes, I think you should absolutely pick him up, especially if you are in a point per reception yard. I think he will be a factor catching ball out of backfield when Sanchez checks down and he will get carries. Could threaten Greene in the red zone as well for goalline carries.
The Duke (The Dirty Jersey)
O-Dawg, what is up with this Matt Leinart trade talk? any truth to it?
Ohm (12:58 PM)
Dukey, Schefter reporting it so I definitely believe it is true. Sure the Giants are just doing their job looking into all options.
Anthony (Bergen County)
Hey. Any news on how Phillips' and Bullocks' knees are holding up? And will they both be good to go for the whole game vs. Carolina?
Ohm (12:59 PM)
A, both say they are good to go. Will write more on KP later this week. Don't know about whole game. Still progressing toward that. Maybe they'll start by Week 2 or 3 if they don't start season opener. I think Bulluck will start season opener at OLB though. Phillips could still be a game away but play quite a bit.
ohmmm worried about that cornerback depth after watching the baltimore game.. I know johnson, brown, and williams were told to man up against the ravens but that was pretty sad to watch. Have they just been playing a lot more zone principles in fewells new D and having trouble adjusting?
Ohm (1:01 PM)
Joe, I think like any team learning a new system, they might've been off on some of the directions they were given. That's what S Deon Grant said. But also, remember, we are talking abou the fourth, fifth and sixth corners on the team. Terrell Thomas and Aaron Ross were out and guys like Brown were covering Anquan Boldin.
Hey Ohm. I know you mentioned the need for an experienced CB for the Nickel/4th CB. Anyone in mind or waiting to see who gets cut from other teams this weekend?
Ohm (1:02 PM)
Nobody in particular in mind. But not ruling it out that Giants could look to see what becomes available. Think QB, though, is more of a priority depending on what happens on Thursday night with Bomar.
any news on a new punter coming in? Thanks
Ohm (1:03 PM)
Mr. Nick... Matt Dodge is still the man. I think they are going to stick with the rookie for now.
Ohm. The key word in your earlier statement is talent. Leinhart has none. Trading for him would be equal to.someone trading.with the nets for oli perez. Big money no ability
Ohm (1:04 PM)
Funkenstein... I think Leinart isn't that bad that he doesn't have talent. He's not a head case like Oli... could he be a bust? Sure. But tough to grade him on an offense without Larry Fitzgerald. It doesn't mean Leinart still wouldn't be a better option at backup QB than Bomar. But I still would be surprised if it happened, just because of contract and fact that he wants to start.
Ohm, Pauls Boutique, greatest album EVER!!!!! Has Kenny Phillips been practicing with the first team or are they still taking it slow with him?
Ohm (1:06 PM)
Keith... nice! Good album. Not greatest ever. Come on man! KP has seen reps with Rolle with first team. He works majority with second team but he has been doing stuff with first team as well. Moving him along on schedule.
Deuce (From the Cuse)
What up Ohm,I was at the game in Baltimore and having Ray Rice catch passes out of the backfield brought back horrifying memories of B Westbrook. Who can cover anyone out of the backfield?
Ohm (1:07 PM)
Deuce, Boley is the guy they would like to cover out of the backfield or with tight ends. Bulluck has decent coverage skills as well pre ACL injury. But yeah, Giants linebackers didn't cover well in general when you look at Rice and Heap. Then again, Rice is already one of the best receiving running backs in the game. Hard to cover that guy, period.
Ohm....last question....do you think there was anything behind the Giants taking Seubert out on Saturday and putting Koets in there to work with first team? I thought Seubert would force Koets out but I think he could be spared another year.
Ohm (1:08 PM)
I think they are looking at all their options in case O'Hara isn't right. Probably preparing themselves in case worst-case scenario happens.
Ryan (Germantown, MD)
What up Ohmboy? AAre we gonna see alot of deep balls thrown Smith's way?
Ohm (1:09 PM)
R, I think we will see a few. Eli has been taking deep shots to Smith in practice and you saw it against Baltimore but Eli couldn't reset after the pass rush threw him off and he missed badly. Smith is having a great camp. Outside of the groin injury, Smith is looking good. Without a doubt, he is the #1 receiver on this team.
Thanks for all the coverage, keepin' the die hards in the loop. 2 questions, first, what are the prospects of bringing Derrick Ward back now that he's been cut and another O-Line question, I personally dont think O'Hara, Seubert and McKenzie will make it through the season, do any of the young guys look like they have what it takes to step in? Petrus, Beatty, Koets? Thanks.
Ohm (1:12 PM)
E-Dub... thanks man. Appreciate it. DWard, that is a tough one. I know he was really loved in the locker room and probably still is. And they haven't had that three-headed attack since then. But they have spent all camp trying to groom Andre Brown for that job and I like Brown. Runs hard. Can catch out of backfield. Needs to pass protect. You got DJ Ware and G. Johnson. If Ward isn't out of shape -- which was what the reports were coming out of TB -- then I'd say it's more plausible. But I'm not going to say it wouldn't happen. As for OL: Petrus has been alright. Beatty is still progressing. Not sure if he is ready to start but he is coming along. Koets has had trouble at times with C-QB exchange.
for the record...Pauls Boutique...not even the best Beasties album....Ohm what WR has looked like the best deep threat to you so far?
Ohm (1:13 PM)
hahaha... yeah, I agree on Beasties. Smith has probably been best deep threat. After that, maybe Cruz. But I still think Nicks and Manningham will be factors. But don't think they will just use Smith across the middle.
Ohm Snap! Why is it so hard to find a decent kick returner??
Ohm (1:14 PM)
G, well, it's not just the returner but the whole operation. Got to block better and open up holes. The Hixon loss hurts for sure.
One of the biggest flaws last year, was the defense's inability to get off the field in 3rd and long situations, and we are seeing that once again this pre-season...Goff seems lost in coverage and is easily looked off his zone responsibilities. What LBs are going to be on the field in those situations?
Ohm (1:15 PM)
Hey T, I think I kind of answered this earlier but you will see Bulluck and Boley sometimes in passing situations. If not them, then Goff and Boley. But I wonder if it will be more Bulluck and Boley since the two are better at covering than Goff.
I'm a Bengals fan and we picked up Mike Nugent. I know he was a beast in college but what was deal in NY?
Ohm (1:16 PM)
He's solid... good dude. Just think they wanted more consistency.
BILL (PHILLY )
is ross's foot going to be like his hamstring last year, keeping him week to week for the whole season?
Ohm (1:16 PM)
Bill, definitely something to watch. Not something that usually just goes away. Could linger for sure.
Ohm! You do some great work man, your articles are always a great read..Do you think this is still a development year for Barden or will they use him in the Red Zone? with his size why not? and does it look like Jacobs is back to his 08' form and over his injuries?
Ohm (1:18 PM)
Kev, thanks bro. Well, I think they had designs on using Barden a bit more this season. Remember, Eli got hurt on that busted play because he wanted to throw corner fade to Barden in end zone. But the back injury has not helped Barden. As for Jacobs, I think he appears to be over his injuries. But not at '08 level yet.
Ohm (1:19 PM)
Alright you crazy dudes! Hit me up next week on the chat and leave some comments in the blog! Chat amongst yourselves... we are all a big fam!
