Ohm (12:00 PM)
Wud up everybody. I missed Jersey Shore last night. Someone needs to catch me up on everything. LOL.
Ohm (12:01 PM)
Pete, big game on Saturday. Do you really think the Wolverines can sweep the Spartans? Should be a battle. I think MSU is in the tourney though. Unfortunately, can't say the same for your Wolverines.
Q: Why did Sparty cross the road?A: To hide his face from all the losing.
Ohm (12:01 PM)
We're crossing the road to go to the tournament... again.
What is this world coming to? Davies gets kicked off his COLLEGE basketball team for having sex with his girlfriend. Christina Aguilera gets arrested for public drunkness while being a passenger in a car (are we going to arrest everyone is taxis now?) I thought America was about freedom?!?
Ohm (12:03 PM)
Joe, I'm not going to sit here and preach or lecture... sure there are things that are wrong in society and what not. But let's just talk about BYU for a second... if you go to BYU and choose to do so, then you got to follow the school's rules. Otherwise, go to any other college that doesn't have those rules, ya know? Life isn't always fair but in this case, you don't go to BYU if you plan on breaking their rules. LOL.
Ohm! What are the odds Holmes resigns with the Jets? Same with the Jets landing Bob Sanders. Thanks.
Ohm (12:04 PM)
Hey Rachel... I believe Sanders signed with the Chargers yesterday... as for Holmes, I do think the odds are in the favor of the Jets re-signing him. I believe he's high on the priority list if not at the top.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Even though you cover the New York Jets & the New York Giants, What are your favorite NBA,NHL
Ohm (12:05 PM)
Hey Chris, well I actually just pretty much cover the Giants. Do some Jets when the Giants are out. As for NBA and NHL, I grew up a huge Chicago Bulls fan. Not really a hockey fan but I rooted for the Capitals. But since I covered the NBA for over 10 years, I stopped being a fan. So I don't really root for any teams anymore. Only Michigan State.
Ron (Detroit Michigan)
Cofield wants to bolt....Canty and Bernard both laid eggs after getting the big $$$$$, what about releasing them and paying Cofield............any chance that happens?
Ohm (12:07 PM)
Hey Ron, who says Cofield wants to bolt? I think he would like to stay but he also wants a good contract. And if he gets one from another team, then he has to do what he's got to do as Ralph Tresvant would say. Ya'll probably are too young to know about Ralph T but anyways... I think the Giants are going to try hard to bring him back. I know Fewell loves Cofield. Canty and Bernard did a good job this season. I'm not saying Cofield is out the door yet.
So they Knicks are only 3-2 since the Carmelo deal? Do you think this is the team getting used to both Carmelo and Chauncey? Also, can they run with the other teams in the East? They've already beat Miami, and lost to Orlando. Can they hang with Chicago and Boston?
Ohm (12:10 PM)
Cameron, got to give them time. It is going to be a while. They need to learn each other and the role players have to get used to playing around them. It may take the rest of the entire season to get acclimated, for real. Look at the Heat, they still very much are learning how to play down the stretch of games although it seems fairly easy to me, get the ball to DWade at the end, not LBJ or Bosh. I do think come playoff time, just based on their pure talent of the big three of Chauncey, Mare and Melo, they will challenge somebody in that first round but winning an entire series against a team that has been playing together all year will be difficult. Not impossible. But difficult. They can hang with Chicago or Boston in a playoff series but I see them scaring those teams more than beating them.
Naz (Wayne, NJ)
Hey Ohm! Who do you see as a good fit for the NJ Nets from the 2011 free agent class? Any opinions on Z-Bo or David West?
Ohm (12:11 PM)
Hey Naz, I haven't really looked at the free agent class of 2011 yet. But that is my old team so assuming that Zach and West are free agents, I'll say this: I love Randolph. Went to MSU too. But for the money he will want, I think the Nets are better suited saving their money for a true superstar forward who can rebound and score and take some pressure off Brook. Someone who will go well in pick and roll with Deron. Deron is going to want a little more star power to stay. Nets need to make another splash.
Jacob minnesota [via mobile]
What is your favorite ny team
Ohm (12:13 PM)
Hey Jacob... well, I don't really root for any teams anymore... being a sportswriter kind of robs you of your fanhood. Pretty much the only thing I cheer for is Michigan State because I don't have to cover them. Have to be objective about everything else. Do I want to see winning basketball back in NY and NJ? Absolutely. Just as a fan of basketball, it's fun to have good basketball to watch here in NY and NJ. And for football, it is fun when the Giants and Jets are good. Especially the Jets because they talk so much trash. LOL.
Inadvertent Chest Bump (NY)
Hypothetically, who could the Giants bring in that can be their Melo to their Amar'e. To make things even more complicated, do they have an "Amar'e".
Ohm (12:15 PM)
Chest bump... I hear you on your question and like it... but with football, it is so different, you don't really have major superstars like that where the entire team is all about that player. I mean, you have some, Peyton, Vick, etc. I think the Giants need to be more well-rounded but they need more playmakers, more speed and more athleticism. The closest thing they have to a future superstar would probably be Hakeem Nicks.
Tomwit (Malabo,Equatorial Guinea,West Africa)
Greetings my man. Raining as usual here in the only Spanish speaking nation in Africa. Do you think there is a big chance that Placido Burress returns to the Giants next season? Also do you think Snooki from Jersey Shores and Chumlee from Pawn Stars should hook up? How shallow wuld that gene pool be? Thanks man!
Ohm (12:17 PM)
Tomwit... wud up? Thanks for joining us all the way from Africa. I think the odds may be against a Plax reunion but I won't discount it until he is somewhere else. If Steve Smith isn't ready from knee surgery, you never know. As for the Snooki-Chumlee hook up, that is just gross man! SnookChum is just a gross idea. LOL.
Tommy Thacher (Telluride, CO )
Do you think the Giants will look into signing Robert Gallery now that he is moving on from the Raiders? If so, do you think he would be a nice fit on our O-line? Your thoughts
Ohm (12:18 PM)
Tommy, hard to predict on free agency since we don't know what the Giants can or can't do with free agency due to not knowing what the next CBA will be like. But I think they will try to take care of their own free agents first. At O-line, would not be surprised to see Giants draft a lineman, if not at 19 then later.
Alex (Long Island)
There's been a lot of talk today about bringing back Plax. How realistic is this? With Nicks and Manningham, and the development of Barden and hopefully Victor Cruz getting more playing time next year, do the Giants seriously consider Plax? I heard they are already bringing back Hixon, I would love to see Plax back with the Giants, but if they did sign him wouldn't he have to also contribute on special teams? I don't see him doing that, you?
Ohm (12:21 PM)
Alex, yeah, on paper, they are loaded at wide receiver. And they did re-sign Hixon. But Plax is a playmaker who will be motivated and Brandon says he is a changed man. He knows the system already and the fact is, the Giants haven't been as good without him. Smith is coming off serious knee surgery and has a lengthy rehab. I think the Giants will explore it. But Reese, TC and Mara have to sign off on it. And even though Plax played through injuries, he reportedly repeatedly violated team rules and was fined often. If he does come, he won't be playing special teams. He would come back to be a starter.
Zach (Larchmont, NY)
Hey Ohm, where do you think the Giants will go with their first-round pick. I think they would be fine with either a solid inside linebacker or even a versitile offensive lineman, but I'm seeing a lot of mocks with them taking a running back. Thoughts?
Ohm (12:23 PM)
Zach, I think the Giants are going to go best player available on their board. If you look at most mock drafts, offensive tackle is probably the best value at 19 since there are so many of them that will start to go off the board around that time. Running back would mean that Ingram fell to 19 and he apparently had a great combine. I like Ingram. If he is there, I think the Giants need to take a long look with Bradshaw a free agent. No guarantee he re-signs although I think he is coming back. As for linebacker, they definitely need one and they need a corner but the position is kind of thin in the first round.
How many times have you violated BYUs honor code this morning?
Ohm (12:23 PM)
Mark, this may be the best question I've gotten yet and you guys ask great questions! I'll let you all wonder. Love the question!
MSU sucks. Only way they make the tourney is if the selection committee thinks its 2009. Their resume sucks.
Ohm (12:25 PM)
E, MSU has a few things on their side: Strength of schedule, tournament history, they are above .500 in the Big Ten and have beaten a top-10 team like Wisconsin. After making two straight Final Fours and having the most Final Four appearances since 1999, I think the committee is going to let MSU in. Unless State gets blown out by Michigan and then waxed in first round of Big Ten tourney, I think they are in.
If you had the house mortgage cash in hand and had to bet on a Jets Giants Superbowl last year who would you pick?
Ohm (12:27 PM)
Damn Matt, you got me holding my house mortgage cash in hand. Whoo. Ok, this is more serious than "Gun to your head." If both teams got to the Super Bowl, that means they are playing their best football of the season, belief would be high, chemistry soaring on both sides. I'd love to see what Perry Fewell would have concocted to stop the Jets offense and what Rex would have thrown at Eli and the Giants offense. Ultimately, I think this battle would come down to defense and special teams. And I think both defenses are very close to one another. Special teams, though, goes in the Jets favor big time so I guess Jets win.
Ohm, what are the odds Jerry Reese goes a direction no one expects with the first round pick and looks like a genius after the 2011 season is over (assuming there is one), like what happened with Pierre-Paul.
Ohm (12:29 PM)
Curt, the odds are good. Gun to my head, Jerry goes best talent available and who knows what that will be on his board. Although one thing to consider, if lockout goes past draft, that means draft comes before free agency so the Giants may have to protect themselves by taking need over value with some of their picks.
Chumlee (Las Vegas)
Snooki won't like me cause I am not a guido juicehead. I am just fat!
Ohm (12:29 PM)
You are also twice her size!
Charlie Sheen (via mobile)
Ohm (12:30 PM)
You know what, I GOT to catch up on all your interviews. I have been so swamped by Giants lockout stuff that I have missed all your interviews. Fill me in on what I missed!
Toumit, you may have heard, we bless the rains down in Africa ...
Ohm (12:31 PM)
Now see, this is why I love you guys. TOTO refrences are the BEST. I may have to karaoke that song this weekend with my crew. By the way, anyone here know how to do the Nicki Minaj hook on Bottoms Up? If so, come to NYC this weekend. Looking for a girl to do that part so I can get my Trey Songz on. LOL.
Sorry Ohm, but half of your argument about why MSU should get in are irrelevent. Decisions are based on what you did this year, not in the last decade.
Ohm (12:33 PM)
Marc... do you rememeber when Arizona got in a few years ago with an awful record? You cannot ignore that the committee favors teams based on history as well. They don't just look at this season only. Hey, I would be all for that, but that just is the way it is. And besides, based on this year only, like I said, our strength of schedule is crazy good. And committee loves their SOS.
Josh (Long Island)
What do you think about the Jets decision to waive Woody? I know hes had knee issues the past few years but now they're is 2 big whole in the O line
Ohm (12:34 PM)
Josh, huge hole. I love Woody. I am not so sure about this, got to consult with Cimini, who has a chat right after mine at 1. But I don't think they are ruling out Woody coming back and re-signing. But I do think they need help there. Woody loves this area and so does his wife. I know that.
Do you think the jets are superbowl contendor
Ohm (12:34 PM)
Conor, yes, they are Super Bowl contenders. Anytime you make it to two straight AFC title games, you are a contender. I expect them to bring back as many players as they can in free agency as well.
What do you think of Bob Sanders signing with the Chargers?
Ohm (12:35 PM)
J, I think it is a good signing as long as they didn't invest a ton of money. Got to see what he has left. He has been hit by so many injuries as you know. But I'd take a chance unless medically he's done.
How do you feel about Syracuse heading into march madness?
Ohm (12:36 PM)
With the Cuse you always want to see how they do in Big East. Funny thing is, when they get hot and win it, they sometimes fizzle out in tournament. But Cuse is always tough.
Ohm, after the St. John's loss last night, how do you think they will finish the season? Big East Tournament? Will they get the double bye?
Ohm (12:37 PM)
Haven't glanced at the Big East standings, been consumed with my Spartans. But I hope SJU does well. Gets the city hyped when they are winning. Got to give Lavin his props. A SJU run in the Big East would be awesome to watch.
Gun to your head. Who do you spoon with? A flatuous Snooki or Chumlee in a banana hammock.
Ohm (12:38 PM)
Ew. Snooki, of course. LOL.
What are the chances the Giants make a serious run at Nnamdi?
Ohm (12:39 PM)
Gary, I think he would be great for the Giants defense. Not sure if the Giants can afford him and send so much money on him and Antrel. But I think they will try.
Ok now that we have all this going on in NYC.. who is the most important sports figure in the city??
Ohm (12:39 PM)
I still think Yankees trump all. But that could change if Amare and Melo make a run in the playoffs. Don't see that happening. So still got to give it to the Yankees.
Chumlee (Las Vegas)
Who needs Snooki any way? Big Hoss is my life partner!
Ohm (12:40 PM)
Chum, you need to focus on selling more at the shop!
can you please explain to me why the heck the giants would re-sign reynaud?
Ohm (12:41 PM)
Matt, I think it is more to just cover themselves with so much uncertainty with free agency due to lockout. It doesn't mean he might not get cut in camp.
Vincent Kennedy McMahon (Stamford, CT)
If the NFL shuts down operations today, I smell opportunity!
Ohm (12:42 PM)
Vince, you are a genius. And thanks for bringing back The Rock. You may have my money now for Wrestlemania.
Inadvertent Chest Bump (NY)
Brandon Davies should transfer to Arizona State, where they probably give our college credits for doing what he got suspended for. Live the dream!
Ohm (12:43 PM)
Arizona State is supposed to be one of the best places to go to college in the country. All my friends who have gone there loved it there.
Donald (St. Paul)
How do you feel about North Carolina heading into march madness?
Ohm (12:44 PM)
I watched UNC vs Boston College a bit. They kind of are prone to droughts. Saw Harrison's big shot the other night. They got talent. Not sure if they are experienced enough though. But talent is always scary to play in the tournament.
Ken (Syracuse, NY)
Ohm, with St. Johns finally being good for a long time, do you think they should change the big east tournament location so no team has "home field advantage"
Ohm (12:45 PM)
Nah, I love the fact that it's in NY. The schools get to play at MSG, and besides, it's not like when SJU was good they were winning Big East every year. MSG does get the other teams hyped too.
Better sports town, NY or Chi? Bears > Giants/Jets by far and Bulls > Knicks by even further. I'm a Sox fan so I know how the Mets feel being the second team in the city even tho my Sox have more championships in the last 100 years vs the Cubs. And I hate the yankees for winning like 30.
Ohm (12:47 PM)
Kenny, I love Chicago. Grew up a Bulls fan. Have tons of friends in Chicago. Great restaurants, great city. And the Bulls are doing it up, my man Thibs is doing a great job. But I don't think I give the Bears the edge over Giants and Jets, certainly not Jets. The Giants, I recall, waxed the Bears. I think Jay is still wobbly. As for baseball, yeah, Yanks got you too. And as for Sox vs Mets... well, the Mets are a mess and I think Mets fans got it harder.
Steve W. (Philadephia)
Will the current Knicks team be as agressive denfesively like the previous Knicks teams such as the early 90s until 1999?
Ohm (12:48 PM)
Oh no... Steve, you do know Mr. D'Antoni right? No, you won't be seeing blood ball in 2011 or 2012. It's all offense and some defense sprinkled in. No hipchecking and fouling inside.
But what about individual sports figure... Jeter on the downside... Is Melo the new top dog in town
Ohm (12:49 PM)
Nah, not yet. Melo got a ways to go to catch up to Jeter. Remember, Jeter has won a ton. Everybody else got a ways to go.
Ohm, can you explain why the Giants special teams coordinator still has a job? Harp on the loss of Hixon if you will, but our guys couldn't even cover punts this year.
Ohm (12:51 PM)
Curt, I don't think Coughlin believes it was all Tom Quinn's fault. Neither do I. And if you fired an assistant coach and replaced him with a new one, and this lockout goes into training camp, you might have just a few weeks for a new coordintaor to teach his guys what he wants. You'd be behind the 8-ball once season starts. Continuity is going to help teams in the lockout.
With Webster and Nnamdi at the cornerback position do you think that will be a better combination than Revis/Cromartie especially with Nnamdi finally being on a defense who can put some pressure on. Also it seems that would rank in the all time great secondary units with there already great safeties.
Ohm (12:53 PM)
Nnamdi and Webster vs Revis and Cromartie... wow.... I think at best it would be a tie. I'm leaning toward still giving the Jets the slight, slight edge. But it would be nasty. I know Fewell would make them downright nasty! Terrell Thomas as the third corner... that would be really nice for the Giants.
Eli Manning. Too erratic to be a top 5 QB ever?
Ohm (12:53 PM)
Right now, yes.
Ohm, with Kentucky having a trouble against some SEC teams as in Ole Miss and Alabama, do you think they can go deep in to the NCAA's?
Ohm (12:54 PM)
Ryan, I wouldn't want to face Kentucky. They are young and inexperienced but their athletes can run dudes off the floor. Got to be smart when you play them.
Frank (Newburgh, NY)
Knicks without Chauncey Billups tonight which means its Toney Douglas on the floor at the PG position. Toney is young and played a great game against Chris Paul. What do you see in the future of Douglas especially with the veteran presence of Chauncey Billups?
Ohm (12:55 PM)
Anytime you get a chance to learn from Chauncey, it can only help. But I think the Knicks should make a hard run at CP3. I think he wants to play with Melo and Mare. In the new East, you need 3 superstars. Just my opinion. I don't have any inside info. Just my guess.
Donald Trump (TRump Towers)
Is Allen Iverson A hall of Famer
Ohm (12:56 PM)
Yes Don... In his prime, he was incredible. That year he got the Sixers to the Finals, he was insane.
Now that the Knicks have 'Melo and Amare, and Chauncy only has a year or two left, do you think the Knicks will sign Chris Paul, if not who do you think they will get?
Ohm (12:56 PM)
I think they will go full out for CP3. They better.
Fred Wilpon (Citi Field)
you have a few bucks you can spare???
Ohm (12:57 PM)
Sorry Fred, all my cash is in my hand because homeboy made me hold my home mortgage cash to wager on what would have been a Jets-Giants Super Bowl. LOL.
any chance the Giants are going to be committed to completing our defense by resigning Cofield, signing Asomugha and drafting Ayers...I think we get all of those players and we will be the Beast of the East!
Ohm (12:58 PM)
Reg... hard to see all three happening. I do think they will try their best to bring Barry back and I do think they want Nnamdi. But I think Nnamdi might be too expensive for them. And as for Ayers, it's a possibility but most mocks have him going in the 20s.
Batista (VA via NJ)
Hey Ohm,there is some talk about getting jacobs more touches. any chance of going back to where he gets the ball early and bradshaw(if he comes back) coming on late. that worked better in my opinion and he isn't a true feature back. any thoughts if we don't get him back too?
Ohm (12:59 PM)
I do think they will give Jacobs more carries and Bradshaw less. But I can still see Bradshaw starting the game and finishing it. I really think the Giants will have Ahmad back.
Do you think the loss of Brandon Davies is a huge loss, or a minor loss? How do you see BYU making a run?
Ohm (1:00 PM)
Big loss bro. BYU may not make it out of first weekend. I hope they do. Want to see lots of Jimmer. No big down low hurts.
Ohm, do you see Ohio State winning it all? Personally, I think they are overrated, and think Kansas to win it all. Do you agree?
Ohm (1:00 PM)
I like OSU. But not to win it all. I do think they are talented and have great pieces. Kansas will be tough.
OHM you the mannn!!! Say the Giants miss the playoffs this coming season, will that finally be it for Coughlin? And if so, who do you see as a good fit to coach our G-MEN?
Ohm (1:01 PM)
Thanks J... yes, if the Giants miss the playoffs for a third straight year, be hard to bring back TC.
Inadvertent Chest Bump (NY)
Cash Cab NY > Cash Cab Chicago
Ohm (1:01 PM)
NY pizza > Chicago pizza
G-Men Supporter (Long Island)
I saw you touched on this earlier but is Nnamdi Asomugha to the Giants a possibility? I haven't heard much talk about them pursuing him, more Jets talk about him then Giants. I think the secondary needs him badly, they did better last year but are far from elite. I see the Jets making a run at Plaxico and the great fear of Giants fans is that he signs with the Jets and becomes a superstud. Your thoughts?
Ohm (1:03 PM)
Well, not really sure the Giants can afford Nnamdi. Same for Jets, lots of money to put in Revis and Nnamdi. As for Plax, yeah, I could see him as a Jet if he doesn't come back to Giants. But I can see Plax in lot's of other places too like Miami. Jets would be a great spot for him though.
Ohm (1:04 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for the questions. If I didn't get to your question, I will try to do so in my next mailbag in the Giants blog at ESPNNY.com Thanks guys!
