Ohm (12:59 PM)
Wud up guys? I watched Fab Five documentary last night. And have to say, it was awesome. If you love any of these -- hoops, hip-hop, the 90s and a great story -- you will love Fab Five. Check it out on Sunday. Let's talk about whatever you guys want -- Fab Five, college hoops, NBA, Knicks, Nets, Giants, Jets, Charlie Sheen... let's go!
Rich (New Jersey)
Plaxico Burress, June release from jail & Tiki Barber, unretires, obviously won't be back with the Giants, where do you see them playing with in 2011
Ohm (1:02 PM)
Tough question Rich. I think the NY Post reported today that Pittsburgh could be a potential stop for Tiki. Tampa is another spot because I know Tiki would love to play with brother Ronde. As for Plax, I think you have to consider Giants simply because there are many players who want him back and he knows the system. But because of his history with the team and Coughlin and the shooting, he would be a potential distraction. Other teams I'd throw -- purely all speculation -- in Plax derby would be Jets, maybe Eagles, Redskins, Rams and I could see a good offensive team with strong locker rooms like Colts and Saints maybe taking him on. But again, all speculation on my part.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Even though you Cover the Giants & the Jets,What is your Favorite MLB Team?
Ohm (1:03 PM)
I'm from DC-Maryland so that would be the O's and Nats. But I'm not that really into baseball.
Ohm (1:04 PM)
Gotta win today... Lunardi still has us in the tournament right now. Watch Fab Five on Sunday and hit me up next week and tell me what you think. It gets interesting at the end when Michigan officials start talking about the scandal and C-Webb.
Steve (Ann Arbor)
Do you think Sparty can get by UTEP in the NIT?
Ohm (1:04 PM)
I'm still banking on tournament.
Wes (Ann Arbor)
Sparty has tiger blood, because he's almost extinct.
Ohm (1:05 PM)
Love how State has one bad year in the last 14 years and the U-M haters come out. Funny because this feels like the first time in 14 years that you guys will be making the tournament.
Carl (Bridgeton, NJ)
Ohm,How would a lockout affect the Giants relative to the other teams in the division? I'm afraid that both O and D would be unimproved from last season. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Ohm (1:07 PM)
Thanks Carl... Once lockout begins, I will have a long story on how the lockout affects the Giants and how I think they are prepared for it by keeping their coaching staff intact. To me, continuity will help the Giants in a lockout. Keeping the staff and trying to bring back as many players from last season back will help, especially should a lockout extend into training camp. Think about the teams that have new coaching staffs. They can't even talk to players until lockout lifted. If lockout goes long, teams with most familiarity should bode well compared to teams that have made a lot of change.
What are the Giants going to do about linebacker? It's been a different starting line up every year under Reese.
Ohm (1:09 PM)
Craig, I think they will look at linebacker in draft and free agency. Hard to tell what will happen, potential lockout clouds situation too. In my mind, they need to add another athletic linebacker. I think Goff can be solid with a certain amount of snaps and Perry Fewell can play two linebackers and a safety as a third or line up a defensive end there as well. Would it be great if they had three great linebackers to play a traditional 4-3? Sure. But they need another good linebacker, maybe even two.
Bill (Long Beach)
Good afternoon Ohm, Does Tiki realize that the legs are the first thing to go? And that those "36" year old legs are going to have to see more pre-season action then they've seen since the 2000 season?! G'luck Tiki, you're gonna need it! This is going to be sad.
Ohm (1:12 PM)
Agreed. But hey, if he want to come back, hey, if he needs to come back, it's like Bobby Brown said, it's his prerogative. I still tend to think he can help as a third-down back catching balls out of the backfield. He won't be a full-time running back. And at best, and I mean at best, maybe he can fill a LaDainian Tomlinson role for somebody but not nearly get that many carries. He should be fresh and he didn't suffer any injuries. And he always looked like a guy who kept himself in good shape.
rick (bergen, nj)
My bud, Ohm! Any word on how the WRs are progressing health-wise? Also, Eli knows that he needs to cut down on stupid mistakes; says it after every game. Haven't seen him been able to do it, though, so saying it and doing it are two different things. How does he get help to do it?
Ohm (1:14 PM)
Wud up Rick? Let's see. Steve Smith says he is progressing about as well as he can, it's early in his rehab stage. He had microfracture surgery so the Giants may need to take things as slowly with him as they did with Kenny Phillips. Domenick Hixon said he is doing well and believes he will come back stronger this season. Ramses Barden just had a procedure to clean out his ankle but should be fine for the season. Nicks and Manningham are fine. Cruz should be fine as well.
Ohm (1:14 PM)
As for Eli, he just needs to do it. He can have all the help he can get from a veteran QB coach but it really starts with him. And I think he will cut that number down by 5-10.
Tiki Barber (NY)
Tom why wont you take me back???
Ohm (1:15 PM)
Tiki, think it might have something to do with your analysis of his coaching style in the past. LOL.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
I heard that Tiki Barber is going back playing football, do you think that he will sign with the Giants?
Ohm (1:16 PM)
Chris, Giants said they wish Giants well and they will release him when the NFL collective bargaining negotiations are settled and teams are allowed to make moves. He will play for somebody else for first time in career.
Ohm (1:18 PM)
E, I got to tell you, I don't follow hockey at all. LOL. I have a hard enough time following NFL, Giants, NBA, college basketball and then trying to keep an eye on baseball. But the Devs usually always make it don't they. Big Lou over there, always changing coaches!
Bill (Long Beach)
Ohm, does the lockout commence Friday, or does the governor grant a delay at the last minute again?
Ohm (1:20 PM)
Bill, from what I've been reading, there's the potential of another extension. But I kind of have been one of those half-empty guys who thinks a lockout is going to happen and I would be pleasantly surprised if it didn't. I know some who are lot closer to the situation than I am and have been reporting on it since day one said that there was a chance it could get done by Friday. I just think there's going to be a lockout and both sides have too much to agree on. That doesn't mean it won't get done eventually. Just not now.
fred pilla (new york)
why won't the giants draft a lineback which we need more than anything
Ohm (1:23 PM)
Fred, you mean, you want a linebacker in the first round? Because they drafted Phillip Dillard last year in fourth round. It all depends on who is available and where. The Giants select 19th. According to most mock drafts, the linebacker who is worth taking in that range is UCLA's Akeem Ayers. But he's projected by some to go lower as well. The Giants are not going to force a pick. They want to pick the best player available on their board. And most experts believe that offensive linemen are the best available at that point in this draft according to most mocks. The Giants would love another linebacker but they don't want to force a pick either. I think Jerry Reese will take the best guy on their board at that time and if it happens to be a linebacker, great.
Alex (Long Island)
Ohm, do you have any Victor Cruz news? I really liked what I saw from him during the preseason, and it was a shame that he got injured and wasn't able to produce during the regular season. I think he could add to an already deep WR core. Your thoughts? Lastly, Tiki, and Plax go to Carolina with Shockey to form the all unwanted Giants team.
Ohm (1:26 PM)
Alex, well, I don't know what kind of news you are looking for on Victor, other than the last time we talked to him in the locker room near the end of the season, he said he was just starting to round back into shape. He said his hamstring injury was legitimate and that's why he landed on IR. But otherwise, nothing should prevent him from participating in football activities once they commence. It would have been nice to see what he could have done with all the injuries to the WRs but he wasn't healthy as well. As for the ex-Giants, I don't see Plax going to Carolina. He will go to a team that has an established QB. And Carolina has a bunch of RBs, especially if DeAngelo comes back.
Jackson (North Jersey)
First of all, great work as always Ohm......Are you as concerned as I am about the injury to Steve Smith, this kind of knee surgery is now joke and usually is a long rehab. Do the GMEN have any backup plans? Thanks in advance
Ohm (1:29 PM)
Jackson, you have good reason to be concerned. His knee injury is a complicated one. The Giants said they will take it slowly with him the way they did with Kenny Phillips and they treated KP with kid gloves during camp. He would start off literally practicing like a few plays a day at most. If Smitty is able to play and start like Phillips did in the season opener, that will be a good thing. As for backup plans, the Giants have depth at wide receiver. They got Nicks, Manningham, Barden, Hagan, Hixon, Cruz and we'll see what happens with Devin Thomas.
Erik (New York, NY)
Which Cinderella is going to pull off a bi-winning warlock-esque upset this year in the NCAA tourney?
Ohm (1:31 PM)
So hard to predict. I know a lot of people like George Mason. I'm kind of one of those who doesn't want to fall in love with BYU or San Diego St. As a high seed, I'm not sure if they will go far. IF they were lower seeds, then I'd pick them for the upset. LOL. Who knows. Let's wait to see the brackets.
fred pilla (new york)
yes ohm first round and if the giant didn't know they can trade up they did once and got a qb and guess what he helped win us a super bowl!
Ohm (1:32 PM)
Fred, sorry buddy but I don't see the Giants giving up a ransom for a linebacker like Von Miller. They gave up a ton for Eli. Moving up for a franchise quarterback is much different than moving up for a linebacker.
do you think the giants could win their division this year, and who do you think we should draft in the first round?
Ohm (1:34 PM)
Luis, how are things in lovely Miami. Miss it down there. Worried about the Heat. who get the best closer in the game with Kobe now? LOL. I do think the Giants can win the division. Especially if they are able to bring back most of their core players who are set to hit free agency like Bradshaw, Kiwanuka, Smith, Boss, Cofield, etc. And I think they will bring back most of them. Cowboys have the talent and better coach now but a new defensive coordinator. Eagles have a new defensive coordinator who may not change up much but still a new DC. And Redskins are a mess. If this lockout extends into camp, the Giants could be in good shape because they kept their entire staff intact and if they bring back most of their own players, familiarity should help.
Bill (Long Beach)
Tiki and Plax sign with the Redskins. 'Cause Synder is as Snyder does.
Ohm (1:35 PM)
Considering how much Tiki used to destroy the Redskins, that would be funny. But Shanahan-Tiki doesn't strike me as a good marriage. As for Plax, I can see the Redskins putting on full-court press for him.
Hey Ohm, signs have been positive lately regarding football next year. My question is are these extensions in labor talk worth getting excited about? or is a lockout still inevitable?
Ohm (1:37 PM)
Jackson, I am a half-empty kind of guy. So I don't really get too excited about it. I have been of the frame of mind that there will be a lockout and one that goes into the summer. But that is just how I feel personally. Doesn't mean you gotta feel that way. It's kind of like going out on a date. If you don't get your hopes up, nothing to be disappointed about if it doesn't work out the way you really want it to. LOL.
Ohm (1:37 PM)
And when it does work out, you are even happier. LOL.
OHM- excellent job always. What do you think are the chances that the GIANTS will take back Plax? and if they do can you imagine NIcks and Plax with Manningham as the third receiver?
Ohm (1:40 PM)
Thanks James. I think the chances aren't that great that he comes back because of his history with Coughlin and the fact that the shooting will be a distraction to this team. But because of his talent, because of his size, because he already knows the system and is familiar with Eli, because so many guys on the team want him back, I won't discount the possibility of him coming back. And I'll throw in Smith coming off surgery. But the Giants have a lot of young receivers like Manningham that they would love to get on the field more. And what happens if Smith is healthy and ready to roll? Then Manningham is the fourth receiver?
rossy chomik (motown nj)
We should sign barber just to return punts in case Hixon comes back rusty. A 36 yr old Barber is better then a healthy Reduad
Ohm (1:41 PM)
Rossy, I hear you but too much history there... fresh start best for both sides. As for Reynaud, he still has to make the team. I know he re-signed but it's not like he's the returner just because he re-signed. Hixon reports that he is doing great. We'll see what happens.
the weather is good, but the heat aren't doing good ha ha. but that also brings up my next question, if the heat were to play the knicks in the first round, who do you think would win that series?
Ohm (1:43 PM)
Luis, I think that would be a war like old Knicks-Heat except without the fouling and the blood and nastiness. I actually am not completely writing off the Heat. I still think they can find themselves and get past the first round. They have too much talent. Even their bench, which everybody kills, I think they have plenty of shooters to surround the Big Three. But they got to survive this stretch. They can't let it tear them apart. And they got to put the ball in Wade's hands at the end. I am all for LeBron setting it up but Wade has to take the final shot. I much rather go down with Wade missing than LeBron.
Ohm (1:44 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for the questions! Enjoy your weekend and I hope your team makes the tournament!
