Ohm (3:00 PM)
Hey, thanks for stopping by the chat. Let's get started.
John(NJ) [via mobile]
Hey Ohm. All things considered, any chance the Gmen use Ahmad and Jacobs on the field together next year? It seemed to me that last season anytime Jacobs was put in the defense knew a gut play or dive up the middle was coming so they stacked up. Gotta be a tad more creative, make the D overthink
Ohm (3:03 PM)
I'd be a little surprised if they did that. The Giants pretty much like to use one at a time, maybe with a fullback to block. I know what you are saying, an element of surprise. And I know a lot of Giants fans like to say that the offense is too predictable. But they still scored a ton of points last year and moved the ball really well.
Jc (Fort Myers, Fl)
Why would Plax already kill TC in his first interview after being released. Seems like all of the talk of him growing up was a lie. If he truly had grown up as a person he would have taken the high road. Im now truly glad he's gone. On a better note, what are YOU hearing about a potential deal?
Ohm (3:06 PM)
JC, just because Plax was being honest about how he felt his relationship with TC was doesn't mean he hasn't grown up. If someone says no comment, or takes the high road, that doesn't always mean they've grown up either. That can mean that they are phony sometimes and not genuine. I think Plaxico grew up in different ways in that cell. If he wants a fresh start somewhere else, that's his deal. But by sharing how he felt about Coughlin... I don't really see that as him not growing up. I think he was just being honest about how he felt. You're just probably put off because it sounds like he won't be coming back. LOL. As far as a deal is concerned, I leave that to the experts like Mort, Schefter and Clayton. They know a lot more than I do. I still think there will be a season and no missed games, as I have contended all year.
Do you see the Giants overtaking Philly in the division this year?
Ohm (3:08 PM)
JB, are you really hitting us up from Ethiopia? IF so, cool. And if not, it's cool too. LOL. Well, I'd like to see who else the Eagles sign in free agency first before making up my mind about the division. I do expect the Eagles to sign a few more pieces. And with that said, gun to my head, on June 14th, if I had to decide today, I'd say Eagles still win the division with the current rosters. Although they will have a new defensive coordinator if I remember correctly. That could be interesting.
If the Giants cannot retain Bradshaw, depending on the labor agreement and if he is unrestricted or restricted, will they grant clinton portis' wishes and make him a NY Giant? Also is there any potential LBs that the Giants can target that could be free agents??
Ohm (3:10 PM)
Alex, if the Giants weren't able to re-sign Bradshaw, and I expect they will, then I could see Portis perhaps coming into play. But otherwise, I think it's going to be Bradshaw and Jacobs and Ware and Da'Rel Scott. As far as LB's are concerned, I don't know who will be unrestricted or restricted free agents. Hard to tell right now. Sorry.
What is your opinion on whether Eli deserved to be in the top 100 players list on NFL Network? I think he deserved it, especially over a player like Flacco or McNabb.
Ohm (3:12 PM)
K, my opinion is he belongs in top 100 because he has won a Super Bowl. He had a ton of INTs, I get it. But he also threw over 30 TDs I believe. And his team won 10 games. But I think that list was voted on by the players right? I am sure there are some players who think Eli is overrated perhaps based on his contract. McNabb has been a great player based on his career. But if we are going solely off of last year, Manning should be over McNabb. But I am not sure if players voted for that thing based on just one season.
Scott (San Jose)
Does Steve Smith return to being the possession receiver he was expected to be at the start of last season?
Ohm (3:13 PM)
Scott, we have to see how Smith recovers from delicate microfracture surgery. He has a hard road to recovery. It will not be easy. As far as him being the possession receiver, I don't think that ever changed. He just got hurt last year and missed time. I expect, when completely healthy, Smith will be that again.
Hey Ohm, I know free agency is in flux, but (in) Reese (we trust) can't be satisfied with the linebacking corp as currently constructed can he? Any idea who we *might* target?
Ohm (3:15 PM)
J, I appreciate the interest who they might target. But I don't really know who will be restricted or unrestricted. I suspect Jerry will sign another linebacker because they need a veteran. Keith Bulluck will be a FA. Who knows how this free agency plays out too. It could be mass chaos since it is coming so late and when the lockout ends, we have no idea how things will shake out, ya know? I would say Jerry wants to add another LB tho. And remember, Perry Fewell can go with two LBs if he has three safeties to play. They want to see Sintim step up but he is coming off knee surgery as well.
What role do you see Ramses Barden playing with the Giants next year? With Steve Smith recovering from microfracture surgery, do you see Barden getting a good amount of playing time before Smith is 100% recovered? Barden flashed his potential in that half against the Cowboys last year before the broken ankle.
Ohm (3:16 PM)
Barden barely played before he broke his ankle but he did look good in that game he broke his ankle. He just cleaned his ankle out in March and he didn't really do anything in the player organized workouts. He looks in great shape. I think it will still be Nicks, Smith (based on his recovery), Manningham and then you could see Hixon and rookie Jernigan and Barden in the mix for 4th receiver.
Ohm were are ya??
Ohm (3:17 PM)
Wud up dude. I'm in Englewood, up to no good.
Ohm (3:17 PM)
Dude, you late.
Thanks for chatting Ohm. Any thoughts for how the Giants will use Amukamara next year (assuming there is a season)? Does he start out as a nickel corner/special teamer?
Ohm (3:19 PM)
Thanks for stopping by man. You know... the lockout really screws the rookies. They got no playbook, no access to coaches and have had no minicamp, rookie camp and no OTAs. So with that said, you have to give Prince some slack. I think it will take him a while to learn the defense. He will be behind. My expectations are that he will be the 4th cornerback. And best-case scenario is he is on the field on passing downs and perhaps play in those three-safety packages instead of a third safety. Really super best-case scenario is he beats out Aaron Ross for third corner but with no offseason, gonna be hard to do.
Are you as optimistic as these other journalists saying a CBA can be done in 2-3 weeks?
Ohm (3:20 PM)
Chris, considering that they are meeting in private, that can only be a good thing. Let's just say this. Since I have my vacation scheduled for July 9-24, I am almost positive that the NFL will come to an agreement and wreck my vacation.
How was the 86 breakfast? Players sign autographs? Wish I could have went- a bit too pricey for me
Ohm (3:22 PM)
Mikey, I have to say pretty cool. I did not grow up a Giants fan, in fact, I hated that team because I grew up a Redskins fan and that team beat the Skins three times, including smashing them in the NFC championship game. But it was cool to see all those guys and they spoke about their memories of big moments that season like Bavaro carrying five Niners, Simms to B. Johnson, G. Martin's INT, the Super Bowl, etc. I can sit there and listen to Parcells talk for hours. He is mesmerizing. You can learn so much football from guys like Parcells and Simms. And I have great respect for those Giants.
If you got drunk and hooked up with your buddies sister, do you have to tell him?
Ohm (3:23 PM)
Ryan, I follow what me and my boys call "the code." So if you followed the code, you would not hook up with your boy's sister. But things happen. And if you say you got drunk and it happened, yeah, I'd tell him. Remember man, follow the code. One day, I'll explain the code in the chat. LOL.
Any word on how the Giants are planning to address all the special team issues they had last year?
Ohm (3:25 PM)
John, no word really. We haven't had much access to the coaches. But I will say this, you can start by putting together better personnel, more athletes, more speed on special teams and I think the Giants started that in the draft with Jernigan and drafting guys like Greg Jones, Jacquian Williams, Tyler Sash, Da'Rel Scott. They added speed, athleticism. And Hixon will be back to help as well.
LeBron James (Miami, FL)
Ohm, let's have a good chat. Mental stability. And be sure to finish strong, ok?
Ohm (3:27 PM)
LeBreezy, just tell me how it's going to feel all summer long remembering that in the final game you passed off to guys like Juwan Howard, Eddie House and Mario Chalmers. You're a superstar man. You can draw a foul basically whenever you want. You can get to the rim whenever you want. And you have DWade and Bosh with you. Gotta do better than that. With all that being said, still think you got time to turn it around and win several championships. But I was hoping for more from you. Work on that game, I know you will.
No. I wish I was from Ethiopia haha. Do you think the Eagles will sign Asomugha or Joseph at Corner? They also need to re-sign Bradley and other LB's.
Ohm (3:28 PM)
It's possible it could be Nnamdi there. But hard to say. They got some places to improve on defense. But their offense will be tight.
A.J. (Queens n.y.)
Ohm what's up, I'm ready for Beatty to start and move Deihl inside. What u think about that possibility?
Ohm (3:29 PM)
AJ, I hear you. Could be a possibility since I don't expect Rich Seubert to be ready at the start of the season. So you could see Beatty, Diehl, O'Hara, Snee and McKenzie. Unless Petrus comes on strong and looks good at guard and they have Diehl at LT, that could be a possibility. But if the Giants bring back Shawn Andrews, you very well could see Andrews at LT and Diehl at LG.
How do you see JPP doing in his sophomore season? He showed promise as a rookie, but is still very raw.
Ohm (3:30 PM)
I think JPP will get better this season but the lockout has hurt him as well. He was growing and then all of the sudden, no access to coaches and no training with the entire team. That hurts a bit. But I'd like to see a little more of him on the field this year.
Hey Ohm- Giants gotta upgrade at TE no? Boss seemed to tail off last year
Ohm (3:31 PM)
Mitch, I do think TE is an area they can get better in. Boss is a good player though, good blocker and above-average pass-catcher. I think they need to bring him back. I would like to see more from Beckum.
Ohm (3:31 PM)
And see the Giants use their tight ends more on passing downs as well.
Keith (New York)
What will be Aaron Ross' place on the team this year? For a guy that came out of the gate like a up and coming stud, he seemed to drop off the face of the earth after his hamstring injury. Its like he became a New York Met all of a sudden (I'm a mets fan too so that is acceptable)
Ohm (3:33 PM)
Keith... I still think Ross will be the third DB. He has had injuries to battle for sure and he didn't make a ton of noise last year. Just seemed to be there at times. But as a third corner, you can do worse. I would like to see more from him. As far as him becoming a Met, yeah, I guess I can see that. But hey, isn't Reyes playing well lately? My fantasy team needs DWright back. Now!
Hey Ohm, love your work. If the lockout forces training camps back a few weeks, will the Giants still train at SUNY Albany? I am wondering how that will work with classes going on
Ohm (3:34 PM)
Mark, thanks bro. I think once classes start there, if the lockout goes a little bit into training camp, say a few weeks, I think you could see the Giants stay here at home. If camp starts on time or is longer than three weeks, this is just my guess, I think you could see them in Albany. I think reports were last week that they have not cancelled Albany or anything like that.
Ohm, Whaddup my main man.. How is Smith doing in his recovery? will he back to his bad self when the season starts?
Ohm (3:36 PM)
Dirk, how that championship feel? You still got the trophy with you after you took it to the club in South Beach the other night? LOL. Smith says he is doing well and could start running shortly. But hard to tell. He really probably will take things slowly in camp like Kenny Phillips did last camp. So that means you could see him in the opening game but perhaps limited reps maybe?
Get Bavaro to play TE - dude looks like he's still a force
Ohm (3:37 PM)
Trust me, Bavaro could still carry 4 dudes right now today. I was standing next to him. He's huge and still in great shape.
Rockin' Hank (New York)
Fill in the blank; The Giants starting strong side linebacker on opening day will be......... ?
Ohm (3:38 PM)
Tough Hanky. I'd say you will see Goff in middle. Boley and maybe a veteran linebacker on the other side, if they re-sign Bulluck, maybe Keith or another veteran. I just wonder if Sintim will be ready after his knee injury.
Do you think you and the Giants are serious playoff contenders this year?
Ohm (3:39 PM)
T, yes, I do think they will be in contention for a playoff spot. I see them getting off to a quick start again and then it depends on how they can survive an super tough schedule toward the end. I do think they will be in the 10-win neighborhood again and then we will have to see if they get in. I do believe they are good enough to make the playoffs.
Jim Tressel (Unemployment line)
It has to suck for Pete (MI), knowing that even if they beat Ohio State this year it won't mean anything. Lose-Lose situation for the girls in Ann Arbor
Ohm (3:40 PM)
Senator, even after you lost your job, you are still correct and still sticking it to the Wolverines. I love it!
Any comment on LeBron?
Ohm (3:42 PM)
Plax, I gave my two cents earlier. But bottom line, we need to stop with the comparisons of LBJ to Michael. He's not even on Kobe's level. He has to get five titles first. And he will get them soon. This is part of his learning process. He has plenty of years to go. But it was really disappointing to see him come up so small in the fourth quarters. Even D-Wade in Game 6. Fourth quarters is when superstars separate themselves from the rest of the group. And Wade and LeBron didn't do that. I was thrilled for my man J-Kidd. I have to say though, I thought LeBron was going to do much better after seeing what he did to the Celtics and Bulls even though the Mavs are better than those two teams. It's going to be a very long offseason with a lockout looming and LeBron has to wait until next year's Finals to turn his image around.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
In the History of the NFL Draft,What is the Absolute Worst Selection that the New York Giants Made?
Ohm (3:44 PM)
Chris, I can't go over that. That would take hours of research. I did, however, go over some of the worst picks since 1990. You can look it up in our draft coverage in Giants draft center on ESPNNY.com
What is the deal with Shawn Andrews? I remember when he was signed, the contract included a bonus due the next year and if he was given the bonus, his salaries would increase tremendously. I don't know the specifics, but I thought he wouldn't be around for the 2011 season even though I loved the way he played last year when he wasn't hurt.
Ohm (3:46 PM)
Kyle, the Giants have 30 days, once the league year starts, to pick up a bonus to pay Shawn. I think it is $3.5 million bonus. So that's a good chunk of change. With that being said, I liked Andrews when he was healthy. The question remains about his back. They did draft a tackle in the fourth round but James Brewer is more for the future than this season.
What's up Ohm? Do you think this is the year the Giants FINALLY beat the Eagles?
Ohm (3:46 PM)
Hey Ryan! I think they split with Eagles this year. Now if the Eagles get Plax... whoo-whee. That'll be even tougher just from a red zone perspective.
Could Plaxico really wind up with the Jets?
Ohm (3:47 PM)
Mark... it's possible. My man Cimini is the guy to ask when he chats on Friday I think. But from what I understand, they sound more interested in Randy Moss if they can't bring back Braylon.
Worst pick has to be Cedric Jones no?
Ohm (3:48 PM)
Mike, he's up there but Chris asked in the history of the draft... LOL.
Who ya got to win the Cup in game 7?
Ohm (3:48 PM)
Gimme Vancouver. Just a straight guess though.
How do you know you've found Lebron James' cell phone? It vibrates and receives calls, but doesn't have a ring
Ohm (3:49 PM)
Who has the most wins in NCAA history? I tend to forget Ohm
Ohm (3:49 PM)
You can have all the wins you want in NCAA history. But I forget, how many of those wins have come against Michigan State and Ohio State in the last three years?
67-31 Michagan in Paul Bunyan trophies...just saying
Ohm (3:50 PM)
Paul Bunyan currently resides in East Lansing if you haven't heard. For the past three years I think.
Eli Manning (Giants)
I was talking to Burres about maybe doing a workout do you think we will be a big duo again?
Ohm (3:51 PM)
Eli... that would be awesome if that were the case. I loved seeing you lob passes up for Plaxico. But it sounds like my man wants a fresh start somewhere else.
I don't want to turn this into a LeBron chat, but some guys just aren't meant for the moment - I was upset last year that he turned the Knicks down, but now I couldn't be happier. I'm sure most New Yorkers feel the same way
Ohm (3:52 PM)
Ryan, see this is interesting. I still think he would have been good to go to the Knicks. It just depends on who you surround him with. Is he a pressure player? The kind that wants the last shot? No. But he is the kind that can get you a title. You just have to build around him with the right cast. Miami is going to get better. But LeBron didn't look good at all in the pressure moments. He basically wilted. And that is going to be really hard to shake off for another year image-wise. His reputation has taken a huge hit.
Oh that's right. I forgot you don't watch hockey.
Ohm (3:53 PM)
But you know what dude? I may tune into game 7. LOL. If these were the Caps, I'd watch, for sure.
Ohm- you ready for some wild cat from the Giants this year? Jernigan is the perfect WC qb
Ohm (3:54 PM)
Fred, send a letter to TC and Gilbride about the Wildcat. I hear you on Jernigan. And I'd love to at least see that wrinkle but doubt you will. Perhaps a direct snap to Bradshaw maybe. But doubt you'll see wildcat. But then again, the coaches have had plenty of time to come up with stuff.
Ohm- Heres to hoping this is Kevin Kill-a-Drive's last year as Giants OC!! Cheers
Ohm (3:56 PM)
Lot's of Gilbride haters out there. I'll say one thing about KG... the offense puts up stats. But I know, you all want to see them come against the better teams like Philly and GB. But all I know is, I remember when the Giants were on their winning streak and had just destroyed Seattle, there was a lot of you in the chat talking about how the Giants were going to the Super Bowl and Eli Manning was the MVP of the league and I had to basically calm all you dudes down! LOL! Didn't sound like people hated on Gilbride back then.
Jim Tressell (Unemployment Line)
Pete you sound like Yankee fans... "yeah but who has more all-time..." - that's a front-runner response
Ohm (3:56 PM)
Senator strikes again!
Who should New Yorkers root for in the cup? On one hand we have our dislike for Boston, but we have to root for USA over Canada, no?
Ohm (3:57 PM)
Well, I love Canadians. They are so friendly. But yeah, I suppose it's got to be USA when it comes to this Cup. But Vancouver is supposed to be an awesome city. I am still mad at the NBA for moving the Grizz to Memphis.
Ed (The Bronx)
Ohm, Chase Blackburn looks like he would be the best person on the Giants to go out and have a beer with. Agree or Disagree?
Ohm (3:58 PM)
Oooh, good question! Chase is the man. A really really nice human being! As for having a good beer with... hmm.,.. Justin Tuck is a really cool dude. With that being said, a lot of the Giants are good people. I'd probably say Barry Cofield would be a good person to have a drink with too.
Why is Lebron even on here I have 5 rings 5. By my count thats 5 more than you Lebron. When are you gonna win one. Ill answer that NEVER
Ohm (3:59 PM)
LOL! Well Kobe, LeBron will get a ring. I know that. But five... that's going to be another thing. I will say this: Kobe is still the best overall player in the NBA as far as winner and star and being clutch. But, Kobe, you ain't Michael. Mike doesn't get punked the way you do sometimes and he wouldn't have gone out in the second round being swept with Gasol and Bynum on his team. But Kobe is right, LeBron isn't on his level.
JIMBO ((New York))
Do you think Mike Diantoni will be fired as Knicks coach this year? Let's say he does. Who do they bring in if Phil Jackson isn't available?
Ohm (4:01 PM)
Jimbo, I expect D'Antoni to coach this season. And then next year, depending on who makes the calls for the Knicks and who the GM is, I can see them going after Phil, for sure. But I'd find it hard to see Phil coach for Dolan. He needs a more stable environment.
Chris (Saratoga, NY)
Hey Ohm - Hixon says he's 100% If this is true, he's gotta have a leg up over Reynaud in the return game right?
Ohm (4:01 PM)
Chris, Hixon will be the returner unless Jernigan beats him out or Hixon's knee isn't ready. But he looked good cutting on it last week.
Ohm, Should the Giants get rid of Tom Coughlin next season?
Ohm (4:02 PM)
Bobby, no. Unless the Giants miss the playoffs and in horrible fashion again.
Big Boy ((NYC))
Ohm,Do you see the Knicks trading for CP3?
Ohm (4:02 PM)
Big Boy, Knicks absolutely better go hard after CP3. But it's going to take a bit. But they got to get in that sweepstakes once he becomes available. I wonder if Ok City will make a run for CP3 and dangle Westbrook.
Urban Meyers (Florida)
Jim your terrible! yuou shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentance as me!
Ohm (4:03 PM)
Dear Urban, please do not go to Ohio State next year. Signed, Sparty.
Who's more likely to have a full season next year: NFL or NBA
Ohm (4:03 PM)
NFL. NFL. NFL.
Ohm (4:04 PM)
Alright you all, that was mad fun man, even with you Pete (LOL). Thanks for the questions. Have a safe week ya'll! And remember, follow the code!
