Bill Williamson (2:01 PM)
Hey, everyone, let's get rolling.
It looks to me the Chargers only have about 3 players that are quality defensive players going forward (Weddle, Liuget, Phillips) I would normally have inclued Jammer but he has really slowed down this year. What can the Chargers do to improve the Defense?
Bill Williamson (2:02 PM)
I think defense will definitely be the area the Chargers look to improve upon. No doubt. But don't forget about Donald Butler. He's a pretty good up-and-comer.
Nick W. (Indianapolis)
Do you think Mark Barron would still be available when the Chargers pick at 18.
Bill Williamson (2:04 PM)
I think he will go in the 12-20 range. The Chargers pick No. 18. I think he will be one of the players San Diego will seriously consider.
Please tell me that the interest in Dennis Allen isn't THAT high...I was really looking forward to having the same DC two years in a row.
Bill Williamson (2:06 PM)
St. Louis is interested. If I had to guess, Allen will stick around and if the Broncos imrpove more on denfese in 2012, then he'll get a job. He was a great hire by John Fox alst year.
I dont understand the Chargers philosophy of promoting in house people for the job, such as D- Cord. How are things going to be any different in San Diego next year?
Bill Williamson (2:07 PM)
It worked out when Rivera was promoted. Pagano is well liked by the players. I'm not sure that was the case with Manusky. The key in San Diego will getting better players.
If the Chargers are on the clock and both a passrusher and O lineman are on the board, who are about the same grade, who should the Chargers take?
Bill Williamson (2:08 PM)
That depends on if Hardwick, Dielman, McNeill and/or Gaither are back.
Isn't Eddie Royal a free agent after this season? What are the chances he returns?
Bill Williamson (2:09 PM)
He is. I don't think he will be a tiop priority. He is a back up and you can always find returners. He could be brought back, but Denver will look at other options first.
Chris (Lees Summit, MO)
Do you think the Chiefs will resign both Brandon Carr and Dwayne Bowe?
Bill Williamson (2:11 PM)
I'm a little surprised they haven't already been addressed because Kansas City is aggressive when it comes to re-signing its own players. But I think they are two key players that need to be kept.
Can you explain to me how having met in the regular season gives the Pats any more of an advantage than it does Denver? People seem to forget that Denver also played in that game, and when the rubber hits the road, Denver has improved in some key areas since then. Does that game really come down as advantage New England?
Bill Williamson (2:12 PM)
Only maybe in confidience. But as Champ Bailey said Sunday, the Broncos know what they can't do and that's commmit turnovers. I think Denver looked at that game as one it blew. So, I think Denver feels lkike it can beat the Patriots.
how would you rate the propects of Cory Liuget after year 1? I believe he was only 20 years old this season.
Bill Williamson (2:13 PM)
I think he will be a good player. He had his moments. He needs to imrpove, but that isn't rare for rookies. He's a plus-player.
You kept saying all season how good of a pickup McGahee was this past offseason. Good call, he really was. But what about his future with the team? Broncos looking at drafting a RB?
Bill Williamson (2:17 PM)
In the spirit of full disclosure, on the day he signed, I said McGahee would be a good complement player, but I disn't think he'd be the answer as the starter. So, I'm no genius. But I have been very impressed with him. He has been the MVP of the team. As for as the future, McGahee will be 31 next year and he has dealt with a lot of nicks this season. So I do think he will be best suited as a rotation guy. I could see Dnever adding a running back early, yes. The Tim Tebow offense needs to run the ball, so it will be a big need.
Can SD win a super Bowl with Norv as HC?
Bill Williamson (2:18 PM)
We' will see. This upcoming season is a big test for him.
How does a Broncos vs Texans AFC game sound? We would love you have you come to Houston.
Bill Williamson (2:19 PM)
You see two underdogs winning, huh?Houston sounds good to me. The shorter trip is always appreciated.
What are the chances the Raiders bring in a HC with a big name. It seems like eveything I read it will be someone that hasn't been HC before.
Bill Williamson (2:20 PM)
That's where the search seems to be headed, but I wouldn't be surprised if a surprise name emerges as a candidate.
The broncos have to be in the market for a big-time RB, right? Knowshon is a bust and McGahee can't hold up. Think they'll go for say Michael Bush or the draft? The offense was at its peak when McGahee was healthy.
Bill Williamson (2:22 PM)
Trent Richardson is going pro as we speak, He'd be a great fit. But he want be there when Denver picks.
Carter (Atlanta )
Do you see Denver trying to run more like they did the first quarter against the patriots, (a healthy McGahee would be nice), or trying to air it out against a defense that hasn't been so good against the deep ball?
Bill Williamson (2:23 PM)
I think they will try to establish the run again. They had such good success before McGahee was hurt and before the turnovers changed the game. Tebow is best when the run sets up the pass. I think that will be the plan.
Bill, I think I speak on behalf of Raiders, Chiefs, and Broncos fans, when I say I would like to personally thank Mr. Spanos for rehiring Coach Turner in San Diego. Please post this, as I'm sure Mr. Spanos follows this chat. Thanks!
Bill Williamson (2:23 PM)
There you go.
I was having a debate with one of my friends about what the broncos' secondary plan should be. He was saying bring in a safety to replace Dawkins. I say they should move Champ to safety and get a new CB. What do you think?
Bill Williamson (2:24 PM)
I think Champ may be moved to safety in a year or two and a CB may be brought in to replace Andre Goodman.
Do you think Run DMC may be on his way out?? I know GB doesn't pay the RBs too well.. Also your opinion on if McClain stays due to his off the field troubles... thnx
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
On McFadden, there have been some rumblings he could be traded. I'm not sure the Raiders would get what they would want in return because of injury concerns could lower his draft stock. As for McClain, I think will definitely be there in 2012. He needs to imrpvoe in all areas, though.
How surprised will you be if the Broncos win on Saturday?
Bill Williamson (2:32 PM)
Probably a little more surprised when they beat Pittsburgh and I was pretty surprised.
Will the Raiders take a step back next year?
Bill Williamson (2:33 PM)
The key is better health and Palmer not throwing so more interceptions, and the defense finally be able to make some plays.
Joe (San Francisco, CA)
True or False: Denver winning last weekend was the best thing that could have happened to the other teams in the AFC West as now it ensures Tebow will be the starter next year.
Bill Williamson (2:33 PM)
That's one way fo lookign at it. But Denver won the division with a shaky Tebow. What happens if he improves?
Chris (San Diego)
Will Darren McFadden be ready to have a full healthy season next year, or should the Raiders look for a solid back-up after most likely losing Bush to FA.
Bill Williamson (2:34 PM)
If Bush leaves, Oakland will need to find a bigger back, for sure.
Any update on McFadden injury? Planned surgery?
Bill Williamson (2:36 PM)
I checked on that yesterday. No surgery needed. He is improving. He should be fine for the off-season camps.
Chris (San Diego)
Any Word from the Raiders if Jason Campbell will come back, or are they waiting on a new coach?
Bill any word on what the players think of the firing of Hue ? I remember some did not like it when Cable got axed
Bill Williamson (2:37 PM)
I think Campbell will be looking for a chance to start somewhere. On Hue: I think it was more surprise than anything.
Would Hue Jackson have ripped the team after the SD loss like he did if Mr. Davis were still with us?
Bill Williamson (2:38 PM)
I doubt it. I seriously doubt it.
Bill, your thought on the Curry trade ? And does he have a future with the Raiders ?
Bill Williamson (2:39 PM)
It was worth doing. He is a starter. He is not great, but he has talent and he is worth having.
Dan A. (Rochester, NY)
Bill, I am reading that the Raiders will probably switch from the 4-3 to the 3-4. It seems like their defensive strength is their D-Line with Seymour, Kelly, Houston, Moss and Shaughnessy coming back. Also they have very few draft picks and no cap room. Do you think this is the time to switch to the 3-4?
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
It all depends on who is the coach. But fia GB defnsive coach si broghth in, we'll probably see the 3-4 in Oakland. They do have aton of players who fit teh 3-4. I'd like the move. But they have to find a linebacker or two.
Would you rather be covering another division and not the AFC West ?
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
The AFC West is my home.
I've heard a few mentions of Peyton Manning to KC a possibility if the Colts let him go. Is there any truth to this? And if so, do you think it would be a good move?
Bill Williamson (2:47 PM)
I think the Chiefs could be on the list, but I think there would be teams with a greater need and a bigger willingness to pay Manning. Look at he Redskins and Jets as leading contenders there if that scenario develops.
Tom (Bakersfield, CA)
What is the latest on who is Kansas City looking at hiring for offensive cordinator?
Bill Williamson (2:47 PM)
I have a post up now. I tlaked to Romeo Crennel today and he said there is no rush. Could be a week or two.
solomon grundy (the swamp)
How good was Denver's o-line on Sunday? Steelers could not generate any pressure (this coming from a disappointed Steeler fan)
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
Lots of credit goes to Russ Hochstein. He replaced stud Chris Kuper and the O-line didn't miss a beat.
robert (LA )
i feel having a great TE is a must for size mismatch against Defenses. do you think oakland should go after jermichael finley considering they have ties to GB? or do you see them using kevin boss more next year?
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
Chances that the Broncos retain Mike McCoy?
Bill Williamson (2:53 PM)
Boss is limited, but he can improve. Finley may be franchised.on McCoy: Jacksonville hired Mik Mularkey and that was the only interview McCoy had set up. So, it looks like he'll be back.
Who backs up Palmer next year? Will it be Pryer or please dont tell me Boller.
Bill Williamson (2:54 PM)
I could see Pryor gettign a hance to move up. But he was a Davis pick. Not sure what the new regime will think of him.
Ed (West Palm)
How should Raider fans be feeling about that Carson Palmer trade now?
Bill Williamson (2:56 PM)
The same as they should have felt on the day it happened. Oakland gave up too much for an aging, decling player.
Ed (West Palm)
So Tebow can score enough points to keep up with Brady & Co? Really?
Bill Williamson (2:57 PM)
I'm not so sure of that,
What did you see in Jon Baldwin & Justin Houston in KC? Will they be impact players?
Bill Williamson (2:58 PM)
I think they will, indeed, be imapct players. I like them both.
I seem to remember the Pats' offense eating Denver's defense alive over the last three quarters in that game last month. Why would this week be different?
Bill Williamson (2:59 PM)
Denver will have to cotnrol the ball and not put the New England offense in good field position. It is the only way it will have a chance.
do you think the chiefs draft an oline man or trade up for a qb?
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
If I had to guess it will be a tackle. Martin from Stanford a real possibility.
Robert Ayers is finally showing some flashes of why he was a 1st round pick. What have you noticed about his gameplay that's led to the improvement besides the obvious switch to the 4-3
Bill Williamson (3:01 PM)
He is getting more comfortable and he is becoming a better run stuffer than expected. He's not great, but he's become a decent starter.
Bill Williamson (3:02 PM)
Great hour, folks. Enjoy the playoffs. Talk to you next week.
