Who do you think is the Best Longhorn that is Playing in MLB Right Now?
Sean Adams (12:05 PM)
I'd have to say Drew Stubbs right now. He is playing really well and will only get better in my opinion. Some might say Adam Dunn but he never played baseball at Texas, only football.
If the O-Line looks bad in the Spring Game, is that because they're not ready, or because the D-Line is that good? Also, why can't Texas pack the house for the Spring Game like SEC teams?
Sean Adams (12:14 PM)
I think the OL will be good in the spring game because I think they are a good group now. They have some things to learn and still need to grow as a unit but they are good. With the strength of both lines, I think we will see some wins and losses on both side. That is not a bad thing as you want to be able to continue to coach hard.Texas has a big house to fill for one. The only school that truly packs the house for spring games is Alabama. You'll always get that when you have a school in a 'no pro sports team' state. People care more in some ways because there is less to do and less divided loyalties. Texas will get a great showing on Sunday.
ron king (oklahoma)
do you think the offense will be better with ash full time.........and will steve edmond be a better than keenan R. or acho
Sean Adams (12:22 PM)
Yes I think the offense will be better with Ash full time (if I understand your question). Case McCoy has made his play lately to show that he is growing in the position but I think most feel Ash has the higher upside. Edmond is a better natural fit for the position but Robinson and Acho are hard to replace. The three are different kinds of players so a comparison is tough. The good news for Longhorn fans is that Edmond is a perfit fit for what Manny Diaz wants to do with his defense.
Dillon (Round Rock, TX)
Didn't Trent Richardson almost come to Texas before he chose Alabama?
Sean Adams (12:26 PM)
Yes, the word is that Richardson was down to Texas and Alabama when he decided that he was leaving his home state of Florida. The strange part is that people never really know who finishes second in any recruitment. No youngster wants to let a team down so depending on who asked, a lot of teams might be second. With that said, I believe that was the final two.
Grecian (Houston, TX)
With a starting QB role still technically undecided, who leads the voluntary workouts and 7-7s this summer, Ash or McCoy or other?
Sean Adams (12:29 PM)
Both will be at the workouts and both will coordinate but Ash will more than likely lead the workouts. I fully expect Ash to be the guy leading the workouts this summer.
The Jerk (Austin, TX)
What are your thoughts on Ryan Tannehill going in the first round?
Sean Adams (12:33 PM)
QB's get overdrafted every single year and this will be another year of the same. I do not want to say that he will be a bust because we don't know that and he is VERY talented. What I will say is that I have not seen enough from him to merit a first round pick. The NFL draft is based on potential and they see it with him. I think he is a good QB and could be a good NFL QB but if I was a GM, there's NO WAY I draft him in the first round.
Shiloh (Pittsburgh PA)
How good do you think Connor Brewer can be? It seems that with the recent commitment of Tyrone Swoops people seem to be forgetting about Brewer.
Sean Adams (12:39 PM)
Yes, the newest QB is always the most popular QB. I like Brewer a lot and it can't be talked about enough that he knows pieces of the Harsin offense already. He is a really good player and is a good fit for the offense at Texas. Don't write him off.
I believe Texas has the best chance to win a Nat'l title in the next 3 years than anyone in the Big 12....your opinion? Who has a better chance in the country than Texas to win a title in the next 3 years if anyone?
Sean Adams (12:47 PM)
I agree with you. While I don't want to get ahead of anything, Texas is set up to do great things in 2013 and 2014 especially if they start to get premium play from the QB position. Alabama is loaded, Florida should be good even though I still have doubts about the OC hire and Ohio State will turn heads. LSU is LSU. USC is my pick in 2012.
David J (Sugar Land Tx)
Morning Sean! Okay so how do you see the QB situation playing out this season? Will it be Qb committee, were we see all 3 guys, or will Ash end up starting all games with the exception of injury? Also assuming "DASH" is able to secure his role as the starter, who is the better option as back up McCoy or Brewer?
Sean Adams (12:49 PM)
Mortning. I do not think it will be all three and if it is, get ready to laugh at the disaster that will happen. I am a fan of QB's red-shirting so I believe McCoy will be the back up. I alos believe he is ahead of Brewer.
Will the Longhorns have a winning record in the Big 12???
Sean Adams (12:50 PM)
That's an easy one, yes!
EZ 28 (Davis, CA)
Early but what do you think Vacarro's draft projection is next year?
Sean Adams (12:51 PM)
Safeties never go too high but I can see him going in the late first to early second.
Tim (San Diego)
Sean, what's the latest buzz regarding Brandon Moore? It seems that he came on strong and was mentioned as a dominant force but lately I find nothing really mentioned about him and he has been playing with the 2nd Team. Your insight is appreciated! Also, why did he leave Bama to begin with?
Sean Adams (12:56 PM)
He will be fine and will be very good. Just remember that he is a DT. They don't always get a lot of love but they play key roles in success. When the season starts, he will get mentioned a lot.
Have the Longhorns seen any impact yet on recruiting with A&M's move into the SEC supposed to make them a more viable alternative?
Sean Adams (12:57 PM)
I do not expect Texas recruiting to be changed one bit. Will Texas A & M get one extra kid per class against Texas? Maybe. But that's hardly a big impact.
Dtwione (College Station)
What is David Ash's ceiling as a QB? Does he have the physical tools to eventually play in the League?
Sean Adams (1:00 PM)
That is a great question. In the end, how he was raised, what his personality is and whether or not he watches a lot of TV has nothing to do with whether he can lead a football team. Ask me this question again six games into the 2012 season. He is very talented but he has to grow in the leadership and confidence department.
Who is the starter going into the season?
Sean Adams (1:02 PM)
I'm assuming you mean at QB and that answer is Ash and it's not as close as you think.
Who do you think will win the Big XII? And what kind of strides do you predict for David Ash?
Sean Adams (1:08 PM)
If I had to call it right now I would say Oklahoma. Texas has a better defense but until I know more about the Texas QB, I'm making the call for OU. It is very close though and will hinge on the QB position for Texas.
Sean Adams (1:09 PM)
I would say OU right now based on their experience at QB. It is actually very close between KSU, WVU, Texas and Oklahoma though. Ash can make huge strides. I just want to see it first.
I think that with the offense getting better and especially with the way Ash is progressing. Our running game will be one the best if not the best in the nation if this year, defense will only be better than least year's unit and that's scary for the rest of the conference. But what do you think our chances are to win the Big XII this season? People talk about W.V. but they have not gone up against a good defense like ours!
Sean Adams (1:11 PM)
Oklahoma, WVU, KSU and Texas will all enter 2012 very close. Of that group Texas will have the best defense. If Texas gets good QB play, they have as good of a shot as any to win the conference. I think it will be a down year in the conference.
I am really, really concerned about the Texas kicking game. In the past, this was almost a given based upon high caliber FG kickers that made a huge difference in close games. Texas is not at the point of beating most teams routinely by 21+ like the past and I think FG kicking could make or break this season. Do you have any thoughts on this based upon the negative comments I heard out of spring practice?
Sean Adams (1:13 PM)
I know people have been hard on me for harping on the kicking game but the last decade at Texas proves that the kicking game is important. As long as the QB is not a premium position, the kicking game will be important.
With the addition of Johnathon Gray, does Texas have the best running back duo in the nation with him and Malcolm Brown?
Sean Adams (1:13 PM)
Yes and it's not close.
Who will have a better record as an o coordinator at Texas? Davis or Hardin?
Sean Adams (1:14 PM)
I don't think Harsin will be at Texas that long.
Stephen (Seattle, WA)
What comes first.. Turnover from the Defense or a TD from the offense??
Sean Adams (1:15 PM)
Come on, it's a Texas spring game. Touchdown will come first.
Texas kicking game (FG kicker) will make or break this season as I think we will be in several close games. Thoughts on the problem and if the freshman Coppell kicker can step in and help right away?
Sean Adams (1:16 PM)
Yes I think the opportunity to win the job will be open right away. I have no problem with it at all.
Sean Adams (1:16 PM)
Thanks for the questions, we'll chop it up again next week after the spring game and really talk about going into the fall.
