Ohm (2:59 PM)
Hey guys, wud up?
Richard (sanRichardSan Antonio,tx)
Hey Ohm, do you think that the Gaints defense line will be O.K. With all the injuries also how is Randle do so far and Wilson that care and look foward to your answer. Thanks
Ohm (3:01 PM)
Hey Richard, I think the line will be fine with the defensive ends and JPP staying healthy. In the middle, they still have Linval Joseph and Rocky Bernard. They just need Austin's back to get better. As for Chris Canty, he likely will need more time to be ready. As for Randle, he has done good in the short amount of playing time he has received.
Will this be a breakout year for Bradshaw?
Ohm (3:02 PM)
Well, I don't know what you mean by breakout year? He has had some pretty good seasons. If you mean like Arian Foster-type numbers or something like that, he has to stay healthy. And also, the offensive line has to stay healthy. And so far, it isn't. So if you are looking for gaudy numbers, I think that may be hard to reach, especially since the Giants will be passing quite a bit to Hakeem and Cruz. But I still think Bradshaw is a fine No. 1 back when healthy. He runs as hard as anyone in the game. The O-line remains a question mark. Have to see more of the line. Last game wasn't too pretty.
Ryan (New York)
Eli is good enought how come the Giants dont get the respect they deserve?
Ohm (3:03 PM)
I don't really know what you mean by not enough respect? They are the defending champs. If you mean why aren't people picking them to win the East as much as say some are picking Philly... well, I think people still see the Giants and think 9-7 and how they were 7-7 at one point. That is probably why.
Do you see any reason Wilson would start over Bradchaw?
Ohm (3:03 PM)
Nope. Bradshaw is the starter. Wilson, though, should become the second back before long.
What well known player if any do you think will get cut?
Ohm (3:04 PM)
Matt, if I knew I would tell you. Hard to say. And very hard to speculate. Anything can happen between now and the next two games. I will say this, keep an eye on the linebackers. They are going to have to make a tough cut there and the running backs as well.
hi Ohm, I'm asking this question not only in terms of the rb situation but also in fantasy terms...what could the role for david wilson be i.e. how many touches per game, carries, receptions?
Ohm (3:06 PM)
Hey John, I would say this from a fantasy perspective... if you take Bradshaw, it would be nice to get Wilson. If you take Wilson, he will be a backup on your team. I don't envision enough touches at the start for him to be a starter on your team. That doesn't mean as the season progresses that he won't get enough touches to warrant starting. But for now, going into your draft, consider him a backup. Even if he wins the backup job entering the season, I just don't know how many touches he will get. I envision maybe 10-12 touches, including catches perhaps early on. And that is a pure guess.
What is going on with Marvin Austin's back? Is he expected to be ready for the season opener?
Ohm (3:06 PM)
Marvin is still resting his back. He is trying to get it better before the season opener. No idea if he will be ready. Can't predict backs.
Chris Bailey (Nanuet, NY)
Hey Ohm, who's your leader right now for the 3rd WR spot? Hixon has the experience but those knees are too shaky. Ruben just has beast potential written all over him. Do you think if Ruben takes the 3rd spot they have Cruz run in the slot more?
Ohm (3:07 PM)
Cruz will run in the slot on most occasions no matter who is out there with him when there are three wideouts. I think Hixon starts as the third WR, and then they use Jernigan, Barden and Randle on different occasions until Randle becomes the guy.
Hey Ohm, long time reader, first time to chat. Was wondering what your take is on the Giants' punt return unit. With Hosley dealing with the turf toe do we see Hixon back there again? Or use Jernigan? Both of those options don't exactly feel safe to me (Jernigan not exactly sure handed with punts and Hixon being put even more at risk with that knee of his).
Ohm (3:08 PM)
Welcome AJ! Nice to have you. Stop by every week! I think you will see Jernigan back there until Hosley comes back. And if Jernigan is shaky, I think you will see Hixon if Hosley is not there.
Do you think Prince and Hosley (assuming no problems with the toe) will play well enough this year to eventually move Rolle back to being a full-time safety instead of covering the slot ? Do you think Hosley could be a big contributor this year in the secondary and on special team?
Ohm (3:09 PM)
I think that is the hope for the Giants, to have Hosley do the nickel back slot coverage and Rolle move back. But turf toe is tricky. Hard to predict. As for Hosley being a contributor, after seeing him in the last three weeks, I think he can contribute as a nickel DB and on special teams. He has the potential to be a playmaker.
We all know about the shakiness on the O-Line (Which I believe is the team's biggest problem by far)... what do you think the starting lineup come Sept 5th will be? Will Diehl move back to LT?
Ohm (3:10 PM)
Great question Shawn... Right now they got Locklear there at LT. Coughlin keeps saying he expects Beatty back. I think it is going to be Beatty. But if not, yes, would not be surprised at all to see Diehl there at LT and Locklear or Brewer at RT.
Dorian (Silver Spring)
If Michael Boley makes a recovery, how do the Giants figure to integrate Keith Rivers into their defensive plans?
Ohm (3:11 PM)
Dorian... Silver Spring, MD? That's my hometown! Grew up in SS! I think if Boley (hamstring) plays, you will see Rivers come in on passing downs to use his athleticism. But they have Jacquian as well. They may use Boley, Jacquian and Rivers. That would be something on passing downs. Haven't seen that though because of injuries in camp. I'd like to see that on a third down though unless there are a ton of WRs out there.
Ohm how has james brewer been this preseason and is there any chance he's a starter sometime soon?
Ohm (3:12 PM)
Hard to say Anton. He had some back issues early on and has been used with second team. I guess right now they trust Locklear more. So, I don't think he is ready to be a full time starter just yet. Could he start at RT if Diehl has to move to LT, yes... but probably until Beatty returns. Locklear probably has the edge to start over Brewer right now.
Big Blue Squid (Newport News, VA)
How likely is it that David Wilson is the starting RB in Game 1 of the regular season? How likely is he to eventually take over the #1 spot from Ahmad Bradshaw?
Ohm (3:13 PM)
Unlikely BBS. Bradshaw is the starter. Wilson looks good. But he will be the backup.
Ben C (Green Bay, WI)
Ramses Barden yet again has not impressed thus far. To me he's looked awkward with the routes and hasn't displayed sure hands. Douglas and Stanback have proven they may deserve spots on this team ahead of him in my opinion. If he fails to make an impression the next two games, do you think there is a legitimate chance of him not making the final roster?
Ohm (3:14 PM)
Ben, it is possible. But my hunch is they keep him and maybe Douglas to practice squad perhaps. But will be nice to see Barden do something in these last two games.
D-Murph (1st in East)
Ohmie, starting LB's; Kiwi, Rivers, Boley? If so, who's next in line? Thanks bro
Ohm (3:15 PM)
D-Murph, only girls get to call me Ohmmie. LOL. Assuming Boley is healthy for the opener, it will be Boley, Blackburn or Herzlich in middle and Kiwanuka. I don't think they put Boley in the middle after being hurt this long. But who knows.
Zachary Lecky (Jersey City, NJ)
Reports are Giants want Prince to show more SWAG. Do you think he has it in him?
Ohm (3:15 PM)
I am writing about it as we speak. Read it tonight... LOL. We'll find out my man ZL.
Matt (New Jersey)
Hey Ohm, whats the timetable on Canty's return. He would go along way towards retoring our depth at DT
Ohm (3:16 PM)
Matt... they haven't said anything on a timetable. But gun to my head, Canty isn't ready for the season opener and needs more time. Could be several more weeks.
Is Will Hill a lock for the 3rd safety spot vacated by Deon Grant?
Ohm (3:16 PM)
James, I think so. He has looked good.
Why do you think that, The Defending Super Bowl Champs NYG still get no love after there 2nd ring in 4 years. Most publications have the Giants 3rd in the divison missing playoffs
Ohm (3:17 PM)
I haven't been reading all the magazines. So not sure about all that. But like I said earlier, I am sure a lot of people choose to remember the 7-7 Giants and how they finished 9-7 and got hot. That's fine. You should like that. The Giants always play better when no respect.
Any chance Stanback can beat out Barden for a roster spot? Stanback has looked better thus far in preseason and he can perform on specials. Barden just seems like he's never really put it all together...your thoughts?
Ohm (3:18 PM)
Stanback has a shot to make roster. It's possible. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out. My hunch is they keep Barden but I could definitely be wrong. Still got two more games left.
Carrot Cake (Jersey City, NJ)
How much do you believe Jake Ballard will be missed??
Ohm (3:18 PM)
Carrot Cake, well... he was going to be missed anyways because I don't think he was going to play this season anyways. I think Bennett is starting to look comfortable. Bennett can fill that void. Got to see more chemistry between him and Eli.
Please tell me that locklear isn't going to start this year
Ohm (3:19 PM)
Anthony... I don't know. All depends on Beatty's back. He could be your starter at RT or LT if Beatty is unable to play.
i think martellus 50 catches, 8 touchdowns. thoughts
Ohm (3:19 PM)
If the Giants choose to throw to their tight end that much. But I don't think they throw enough to the tight end to get to those stats. But the Black Unicorn could do it if he gets enough targets. Remember, Cruz and Nicks will get their end zone targets.
Any news on TT's progress? Maybe a timetable for his return?
Ohm (3:20 PM)
Nope. He still continues to progress. Gonna be a while. Gotta be patient. He has to take things slow.
I've been hearing really good things about Herzlich in camps, and even seen some flashes here and there in preseason.... do you see him eventually growing into that stud LB the Giants have been missing since Pierce retired?
Ohm (3:20 PM)
I don't know about stud. But he has looked really good in camp and the preseason. A shame he suffered a hip pointer in the last game but he was practicing again on Monday. Hopefully that won't slow him down because I want to see more Herzlich!
What are your thoughts on the back end of the schedule? It looks like death at first look
Ohm (3:21 PM)
Very very tough. I think it's going to come down to Eagles-Giants in that last game.
Ohm (3:21 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for the questions this week! See you all next week homeys!
