James Walker (4:01 PM)
Good afternoon, everyone.
Any hope for the Jets season without Revis? Also in your honest opinion, does Revis come back as skilled as before?
James Walker (4:02 PM)
I don't think the Jets are capable of reaching their goals without Revis, LeAnne. That's my opinion. The Jets were up and down to begin with and I don't see how that gets any better without their best player. I doubt the Jets will make the playoffs this year. That would be a big shock to me.
James Walker (4:03 PM)
As far as Revis coming back as the same player, it's hard to say. Every player is different and it depends on age and recovery time.
Rich (New Jersey)
Hi, Jim. Are the Dolphins that competitive or Jets that bad in New York's overtime win and is this going to be a non-playoff year for Bill Belichick & the Patriots currently at 1-2?
James Walker (4:05 PM)
It's a rivalry game, Rich. Those two teams usually battle it out. But I think it's an indication that the Jets just aren't that dominant a team. I picked New York to finish third in the AFC East behind New England and Buffalo. And what you saw Sunday looked like a battle between a third- and fourth-place team.
Mark (Rochester ny)
I know its only been three games but What will is take for the bills o-line to get some respect?
James Walker (4:06 PM)
I'm way ahead of you, Mark. Check out our "Blogger Blitz" coming up after the chat and you will see the Bills o-line get some pub.
jorge (TIJUANA MEXICO)
HI JAMES DO U SEE THE PHINS WINNING VS ARI?? I THINK PHINS CAN WIN IF THWY KEEP RUNNING THE BALL AND LIMITING TANEHILL SALUDOS!
James Walker (4:09 PM)
I will wait until the end of the week to make my predictions, Jorge. But I will say the Cardinals look like a pretty good team and they're at home. Miami would need to do a lot to pull the upset.
Can one of you guys please have the guts to ask Brady why his first instinct is to duck and play dead when he thinks a defender s coming his way. In his last drive on 3 down, he saw a defender and immediately panicked and threw the ball. He obviously would've gotten more time had he just stepped to the side instead of his usual fetal position drop.
James Walker (4:11 PM)
Jason, it's easy to play arm-chair quarterback when 300-pound linemen aren't trying to rip your head off. Yes, Brady is starting to show some flaws, finally. He's 35 and only has so many bit hits left in him. However, this is as bad a pass protection that I can remember Brady having in recent years. The O-line needs to do a better job so Brady won't take so many hits.
Deven (Buffalo, NY)
What's the latest on CJ Spiller?
James Walker (4:12 PM)
Spiller is definitely out against the Patriots. He will probably be questionable in two weeks.
John (Rochester, NY)
What do the Bills need to do to beat the Patriots this weekend .... Defense, Fitzpatrick, F. Jackson?
James Walker (4:13 PM)
The Bills need to get to Tom Brady. That's the first thing. Limiting turnovers on offense is another thing.
Hey James. The Bills just released punter Brian Moorman and re-signed rookie punter Shawn Powell. What do you think of this move? How doe it affect Buffalo's preparation for the Patriots?
James Walker (4:15 PM)
The fact that it's happening on a Tuesday doesn't impact preparation that much. Powell will be in Buffalo to practice when the rest of the team starts on Wednesday.
James I respect you and your opinion but I think the Jets can survive. If you look at their schedule coming up I think they will need to split between Houston and San Fran and then beat Indy at home which they are capable of. Going to New England will be tough but at the same time I see a lot of mediocracy in the league and anybody has a chance to win any game.
James Walker (4:17 PM)
It's a long season, Jay. Darrelle Revis didn't get hurt in Week 14 or Week 16. Even if the Jets split the next two weeks, I don't see them winning enough games without Revis to make the playoffs. That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it. If I'm wrong, let me know it at the end of the year.
Paul D (NJ)
this reminds me of a few years ago when jenkins went down for the jets and at that time he was the best D tackle in the league, everyone said the jets season was over, and that turned out to be rex's best D to date.
James Walker (4:20 PM)
The Jets defensive scheme was not based around Kris Jenkins, Paul. And let's be honest, Jenkins was not a top 10 or top 5 player in the NFL. The Jets have to change their entire defensive philosophy without Revis. They can't blitz as much and they have to play a lot more zone coverages. And the offense probably needs to score more points. This isn't for one or two games. This is for the entire season.
James Walker (4:22 PM)
I don't want to spend the entire chat debating whether the Jets will make the playoffs. My prediction is on record that they won't. If you disagree, send you predictions to our AFC East inbox this week so we can keep it on record.
Does Buffalo officially have a three headed monster with spiller jackson and choice when all are healthy
James Walker (4:25 PM)
I would say two-headed monster. Choice did a good job when his number was called. But he's a backup. There are so many carries to go around and Jackson and Spiller should get all of them when everyone is healthy.
Lorenzo (fresno calif )
do you think the miami dolphins will keep Ryan Tannehill quarterback thoughout the season or you think Coach Phillbin will replace him with Matt Moore?
James Walker (4:26 PM)
Tannehill is the guy unless he's injured, Lorenzo. This is not a must-win year for coach Joe Philbin. There is no pressure. The Dolphins are rebuilding and the 2012 season is all about getting Tannehill prepared for future seasons.
Welker went back to his normal role for the Pats this week which quieted the drama, but is the writing still on the wall for him to leave NE after this season?
James Walker (4:29 PM)
I don't think the writing was ever "on the wall," Greg. The Patriots have not said a peep and neither has Welker. So everyone was speculating what was going on. I would be surprised if Welker is traded next month before the deadline. But I don't expect him to be back in 2013 unless Welker is willing to accept an extension that is less than market value.
Thoughts on S. Gilmore's play so far? Buffalo could use a decent CB to go with that defensive line...
James Walker (4:30 PM)
Gilmore has been up and down. But that is expected for a rookie. I thought Gilmore got exposed by the Jets in Week 1. But each week we are seeing improvement.
Do you think the Bills will be able to get enough pressure with the front four to disrupt Brady, while everybody else can drop into coverage?
James Walker (4:31 PM)
That is the goal, Andrew. The Bills did what they did this offseason to beat the Patriots. Similar to the Giants, Buffalo needs pressure with four players so it can cover all the WRs on the back end. Without pressure, Brady is going to pick the Bills apart.
I know you aren't making your predictions until the end of the week, but can you really see the Patriots losing to the Bills? Could they really lose three straight and drop to 1-3? I just don't see it. I think the Bills would have a better chance if the Pats had beaten the Ravens.
James Walker (4:32 PM)
The Patriots lost to the Bills last year at Ralph Wilson Stadium. I saw it with my own eyes. So, yes, I can see it.
Will Fred Jackson play this week? The Bills could really use him without CJ
James Walker (4:33 PM)
Fred Jackson says he's about 70-75 percent sure he can play. Those are pretty good odds. We will know better later in the week.
What are your impressions of Daniel Thomas? Potential #1RB if given an opportunity, or upside limited to situational use?
James Walker (4:36 PM)
Thomas is interesting. He's the type that will drive coaches crazy. Thomas has talent, but sometimes he has these lapses in focus, like the fumble against the Jets, that will kill you. I'm still not sure Miami's coaching staff trusts Thomas.
Erik (San Diego)
Hi James, How important of a loss was the Jets-Dolphins game to the Dolphins? Can they improve from this game?
James Walker (4:39 PM)
Most people picked the Jets. I think it was more important the way the Dolphins lost. To miss kicks and have bad coaching decisions in the fourth quarter and overtime after playing your tails off can really deflate a team. Now, Miami goes on the road to face the undefeated Cardinals and you don't know how they will respond/bounce back. The Dolphins aren't a playoff team this year. They just need to be competitive and that's what's expected.
Does the Revis injury give Rex a free pass on the year, or would a 5-11 finish get him fired?
James Walker (4:41 PM)
Ryan didn't need a free pass. He is not on the hot seat this season. How many coaches have gone to back-to-back AFC title games recently? That buys you some time. But if the Jets miss the playoffs for the second straight year, then maybe that conversation can start a bit next year.
Can Rex stop with putting Tebow in as a WRE/TE. Kid is a QB and not a HB hybrid? Seems the Jets should have gotten a real offensive coordinator with experience with running an offense.
James Walker (4:44 PM)
I agree, Robert. The Tebow thing has gotten out of hand. The way the Jets are using him is comical at times. It's ok to just let him be a backup QB. I feel like the Jets are forcing him on the field just because.
When both Spiller and Jackson are healthy, do you see more of a 50/50 split in carries? I think Spiller has shown that he's the more explosive RB
James Walker (4:45 PM)
It's too early to say, Ryan. The Bills haven't decided that and must cross that bridge when the time comes. However, I think this is Spiller's time. Fred Jackson had his time and the torch needs to be passed. Spiller is too dynamic to keep on the bench. He should get the lion's share once both are healthy.
Gary (Omaha, NE)
What's the latest on Reggie Bush's injury? And how badly do the Dolphins need a healthy, effective Bush?
James Walker (4:47 PM)
Bush's injury is not as bad as feared. Bush might be ready for Sunday. If not, he won't miss too much time.

James Walker (4:50 PM)
Brendan (New Jersey)
Don't the Dolphins have a better chance of coming higher in the division now after the Jets losing Revis for the rest of the season?
James Walker (4:52 PM)
Revis' injury keeps the Jets out of the playoffs. But it doesn't help the Dolphins win more games. I predicted Miami won't win more than six games, and I still think that's the case.
Harry (Babylon, NY)
Revis injury aside the Jets D has a problem stopping teams on 3rd down - what adjustments do they need to make to get stops?
James Walker (4:54 PM)
I think their run defense has been surprisingly bad. That's probably their biggest issues.
Jets Def Dropable in a ten team league?
James Walker (4:57 PM)
I'm not a big fantasy guy. But I think you can do better with Revis out.
Justin (South Byron, NY)
Any chance this season that we will end up seeing the Sanchez-Fitzpatrick-Tannehill-BRADY watch?
James Walker (4:57 PM)
Nope. It's pretty clear Tom Brady is the best QB in the AFC East. We just need to find out who is No. 2.
Ryan (Buffalo, NY)
Who has the best O-Line in the AFCE so far this year?
James Walker (4:59 PM)
Jets have the most talent on paper (three Pro Bowlers). But I would take Buffalo's O-line as a unit. It's a versatile group that can run and pass block. Dolphins are a good running unit.
James Walker (5:00 PM)
Everyone, thanks again for your time. Remember to continue checking out the AFC East blog for constant updates throughout the season.
