Ashley Fox (3:02 PM)
Good afternoon everybody. Thanks for joining me. Let's get rolling.
Ms Fox, can you honeslty explain why/how you consider The Eagles, Skins, Steelers, Miami, REALLY Miami, Dallas, AND The Chargers to be ranked higher than the Broncos. The Skins, Eagles, Cowboys, Steelers, and Dolphins are all East Coast Bias, so that explains those, but how can you justify ranking the Chargers, 7 spots ahead of Denver?
Ashley Fox (3:02 PM)
Yep, you're right, Jeff. I had a ballot malfunction and didn't catch it until it was too late. Will correct that next week.
In your opinion, has the Jets Offense looked better without Santonio Holmes, and if so, was signing him a big mistake?
Ashley Fox (3:05 PM)
They've looked better the last few weeks, that's for sure. ESPN's Stats & Information crunched the numbers. The last two weeks, the Jets have seven offensive touchdowns and 377.0 yards per game. From Weeks 2-5 they had three offensive touchdowns and 259.5 yards per game. Big difference. But I don't think that's attributable to Holmes being out, per se. They'd rather have him.
Mike newyork [via mobile]
I agree with you on the ravens loss being a wake up call for them as a raven fan though i got faith that we can still compete for a championship.
Ashley Fox (3:06 PM)
I've been high on them this season, but Flacco's numbers on the road versus at home, where they've been unbeatable dating back to last season, are a concern. They've got to get their offense rolling to take pressure off the defense. Obviously that didn't happen on Sunday. And once they got behind they got away from Ray Rice, which was a problem.
Eagles Fan (Philly)
When will the Eagles turnovers stop? When will the secondary start getting some INTS
Ashley Fox (3:09 PM)
They better stop soon. You look at their three losses and they all could have been wins were it not for all the turnovers. Vick has 13. It's a problem. Nnamdi had a pick of Stafford in the last game. I don't think the secondary has been the problem. You can't have multiple turnovers and win games.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that the Redskins TE Fred Davis will be Out For the Season after he Injured his Achillies against the Giants?
Ashley Fox (3:09 PM)
Yes. He is done for the year. Having surgery today.
Mario M. NORWALK, CA [via mobile]
Whats the update on vicks status? i hope they are just trying to light a fire under him.
Ashley Fox (3:11 PM)
Vick is the starter. I know there's a lot of talk about if/when Foles gets a shot. I think Andy Reid stays with Vick and hopes the turnovers even out. Reid isn't coaching for next year. He has to win now.
Thoughts on Tampa? I think they could easily be undefeated right now if not for a few mistakes, every game has been close!
Ashley Fox (3:12 PM)
You can say that about a lot of teams. Games turn on a handful of plays. But they played New Orleans close. There's reason for optimism.
as a life long fan of the boys... i can't shake the feeling the New York Giants are gonna punch us in the mouths... Just seems everything thing is in their favor, from the lack of a strong run game we have and a resurgance of theirs ... our defensive injuries to them getting healthier week to week.. not to mention their pass rush ( i hate to say it but it is more than likely the best in the nfl )... and lastly Eli and his stable of targets (which im affraid that Martellus Bennett is gonna play with a chip on his shoulder)... and just to add fuel to the fire vegas has them as the underdogs... which only adds to the whole nobody respects them card they like playing.... am i wrong for felling this way?
Ashley Fox (3:15 PM)
No, you aren't wrong. And don't forget Jerry Jones talking trash in the offseason. The Giants are a good football team. They're running the ball well right now, and obviously Eli is a bad man. That throw to Cruz on Sunday was just more proof. But I'm not sure Vegas has them as underdogs. You'll have to double check that.
Should we not jump to conclusions on the Bears until they beat a team with a winning record? The schedule they have played has a record of 13-19 and they lost to the only team with a winning record. I was thnking the games against the Texans and 49ers might be more telling. What do you think?
Ashley Fox (3:18 PM)
Well, they can only play the schedule that's in front of them, but you're right. Look who they've beat: Indy, St. Louis, Dallas, Jacksonville and now Detroit. Not exactly the elite teams in the league. Week 10 v. Texans and Week 11 v. 49ers will tell us a lot. But I like what I've seen. Their defense is playing well. Cutler has some weapons. He obviously loves Marshall. They looked like a playoff team last season until Cutler got hurt. I'm not ready to say they're the best team in the NFC, but they're up there.
Anybody who watched the Colts / Browns game Sunday saw the looks of despair on Jimmy Haslam's face. The only hire he's made, Joe Banner, will soon be making a few of his own. Do you have any insight on how Joe may go about filling those jobs? Any not so obvious strong ties remain from his days with the Eagles?
Ashley Fox (3:24 PM)
Joe Banner is a very smart man. It's interesting because he has strong ties with so many of the folks who are with the Browns currently, including general manager Tom Heckert and head coach Pat Shurmur. I'd be surprised, given the regime change, if too many people were retained. It's a tough situation. Whenever you talk about firing a head coach, that effects so many people and families. As for who Banner might bring in, I'd be surprised if it was anyone who is currently with the Eagles right now.
Ryan (San Jose)
Do you think the Redskins have a legitimate shot at winning the NFC East?
Ashley Fox (3:25 PM)
I think their quarterback is sensational and has everybody excited. But I'd be shocked if Washington won the division. It's New York's to lose.
Do you think the questions of Cutler's toughness will end now
Ashley Fox (3:27 PM)
Probably not, but that was some shot he absorbed from Suh. That he was able to come back in the game really said something.
mike (new jersey)
any word on troy polamalu and when he will return?
Ashley Fox (3:29 PM)
He's out this week. Not sure when they are expecting him back.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Which NFC division is more likely to get two teams in the playoffs, the North or West?
Ashley Fox (3:33 PM)
That's an interesting question. Throw the East in there, too. If I had to pick between the North and West, I'd pick the North. I've got to think Chicago and Green Bay will get there. I'm still not completely sold on Minnesota. I'm not completely sold on Seattle, either. Arizona has lost three straight. The NFC is so deep. There are going to be some good teams left out.
i might be crazy, but i dont think the Lions are that far off from what they did in 2011. special teams have been ugly, as has the offense. but the biggest question marks were on defense, and so far, that unit is holding up well. to hold the Bears to 13 in their stadium and not come away with the win falls on the other side, not the D. with that in mind and considering the talent on O, can the Lions get this turned around and make a late run at a WC spot?
Ashley Fox (3:37 PM)
I doubt it. They have talent on offense but they just lost Nate Burleson for the season, which is a huge loss. Everybody is double teaming Megatron with safety help. And they're 2-4 in a division where every other team has a winning record. I don't see them bouncing back.
Bryan (Springdale, AR)
Cowboys are favored, Cowboys -1
Ashley Fox (3:37 PM)
Scoop D (GA)
I had serious doubts about Cam Newton ever being a consistently good NFL QB when he was drafted no. 1 overall last season but my buddies who went to Auburn all made me eat crow after his rookie year performance. On second review, however, I'm beginning to wonder if I was right after all. What do you think: sophomore slump or is Cam showing his true colors?
Ashley Fox (3:40 PM)
He's really struggling, isn't he? But I think it's too soon to make that call. He needs to quit the whole moping, woe-is-me thing on the sidelines. He needs to stand up and realize that he is the leader of that team and everyone follows him. Losing stinks and he's not used to it but his pouting is not helping anything. That drives me nuts, because he is so talented.
Zachary (New York )
Are the giants the best team in the nfl?
Ashley Fox (3:40 PM)
I wrote about this last week. I think they are. I'm not saying they're perfect, but Eli's ability to win games in the fourth quarter can not be overlooked. Veteran team with a championship mentality. To me, they're the team to beat.
What does your MVP ballot look like thus far? Some names that should be included, I'd think, would be both Mannings, RGIII, Matt Ryan...maybe JJ Watt?
Ashley Fox (3:43 PM)
Co-sign. RGIII is in the lead for rookie of the year. I don't think he'll win league MVP because the team won't finish with a good enough record. Ryan definitely is up there. Watt as well. I think it's going to be tough for a defensive player to win it, but we'll see. Hasn't happened often.
Rah-Steam (Hackensack, N.J.)
SHould the Chiefs really switch to Quinn? He was horrible last week against a terrible secondary. Cassels turned the ball over, yet he's also moved the offense fairly frequently. I think the Chiefs should just ride Cassel out. However, Crennel's job security is on the line so I guess he would give the team the best chance to win, right?
Ashley Fox (3:45 PM)
Cassel hasn't played well. Quinn isn't the answer, either, but it's come to the point where Crennel had to make a change. They need to draft a quarterback and develop him. Cassel was a mistake.
Has Asante fired up the Eagles and their fans with his talk/tweets this week?
Ashley Fox (3:47 PM)
Eagles fans are too worried about their quarterback to worry about Asante. But you know he's jacked up for Sunday. 22 will want to pick off Vick. I wouldn't bet against him.
JR (Tampa Bay)
Ashley, considering how weak the AFC is right now, do you see any teams getting in the playoffs at 8-8?
Ashley Fox (3:48 PM)
Sure. Maybe a couple.
despite saints bad record, don't you think drew brees should be in mvp discussion?
Ashley Fox (3:49 PM)
You could make an argument for it, especially given everything they're dealing with. Let's a wait a few more weeks before he put him in that conversation, though. I am looking forward to seeing Brees and P. Manning go at it again on Sunday. Should be fun.
Mike newyork [via mobile]
If you had to pick 2 teams from the afc and nfc that are the most improved this season who would they be?
Ashley Fox (3:50 PM)
I'll pick one from each: Minnesota and Miami. I've been very impressed by each, particularly by the two young quarterbacks.
Kevin (Update NY)
Ashley, I have been a long time Bills fan but this is getting difficult to watch latley. What do you think the about any coaching or quarterback changes coming sometime this year.
Ashley Fox (3:52 PM)
I know Bills fans are having a hard time. That defense has been disappointing. If things don't improve, you will see some changes. Have to.
Ashley Fox (3:52 PM)
Alright guys, I've got to bounce a little early. Thanks for joining me. We'll do it again next week.
