Stephania Bell (3:03 PM)
Happy Tuesday! Bet all the people in a good mood here are going on to their championship rounds...or the round before the champtionship round. As long as you don't have Ryan Mathews on your roster (and if you got to the finals, well, you probably don't)...you should be in pretty good shape.
Hey Stephania! quick question, is it bad that I hope Gronkowski doesn't suit up this week? I have both him and Hernandez on my team...
Stephania Bell (3:06 PM)
Steve: Well, you can still hope for him to heal well and just get another week of rest...and that's not bad. He was walking around the facility without his cast. I still think there's a decent chance they hold him out this week. If it were Super Bowl or even divisional championship, he'd likely play, but assuming even if the healing is progressing well, he benefits from a little more time. And from their perspective, no reason to rush.
Is it okay to trust DMC again?
Stephania Bell (3:07 PM)
Jacob: The question is can you ever really trust him...but as far as the recovery from this ankle goes, I think he's shown he can move pretty well on it. No alarming issues. So, yes.
Hi Stephania- Are you starting Amendola with 100% confidence for a PPR Championship?
Stephania Bell (3:09 PM)
Chip: I love these questions. You must know by now that I'm never 100% confident in anyone coming off injury. The best thing Amendola said after the game is that he felt "pretty good" and he didn't have any reported setbacks. So I'm mor confident this week than last. But it's a plantar fascia injury. ALways a risk for re-injury until he has the offseason to recover. Would I play him? Yes.
Shady. Does he play? And if he does is he on snap count?
Stephania Bell (3:11 PM)
Steven: I think he will play. He's met all the criteria. He'll get some work in in practice. You like to see your players get back in the mix, even if it's a losing season, because it leaves everyone feeling more confident heading into the offseason that you showed you recovered to the point of returning to play. Don't think it's a snap count per se but I do think Bryce Brown continues to get some work.
Did Big Ben show enough last week to think the injury was behind him and he can be a reliable starter in a 2QB league?
Stephania Bell (3:13 PM)
Steve: He's no doubt still dealing with some soreness with the injury, especially when he takes big hits. Most importantly, he gets back up and throws jsut fine. But I think he's shown enough to convince me he's OK to start in my 2 QB league.
Kimmie (The Office)
Ahmad...any news? I've got David Wilson and counting on a bounce-back game!
Stephania Bell (3:15 PM)
Kimmie: I just spoke with Ahmad this morning in the halls of ESPN. He certainly expects to play this week. While I know he said that last week, he admitted that he might have been overenthusiastic about that, given he had swelling in his knee. Now he's back to full range of motion. As long as there's no setback, I think he does. Don't expect him to practice much, if at all.
Does RGIII play this week? He looked ready to go last week during warm-ups, and he said he felt fine. Do you think they are being overly cautious with this?
Stephania Bell (3:17 PM)
talya: Don't think overly cautious. In fact, this is one of those cases where protecting the player against himself comes to mind. RG III certainly made great progress but a chronic injury in that part of his knee could threaten his entire career. It was a wise move. They'll go through the same exercises this week in making a determination. Think his chances are better but it's not a lock and they may not decide until the very end of the week.
John (Seattle )
MJD - does he finally play?
Stephania Bell (3:18 PM)
John: I doubt it. And at this point, even if he does, I wouldn't be entrusting my fantasy playoffs to him because I would not expect him to run a ton his first time back. He was to test his foot today; haven't heard yet how that went. But the Jags at least have been giving us a heads up well before the weekend.
Thank you for your help all year Stephania.I made it to the big dance! How do you feel about Dez this week?
Stephania Bell (3:20 PM)
Zeke: COngrats! I think Dez performed better than expected given the injury that he has and knowing the amount of pain he must have. That said, he struggled at times. A few dropped balls, including one where his finger got bent backwards. Those will continue to be the challenge. If you've got him, I wouldn't bench him but know the finger remains a bit of a risk.
Devin Brooks (Detroit)
J. Nelson.. Do you think he play this week..
Stephania Bell (3:22 PM)
Devin: He has to do something in practice...meaning too early to tell on him. Last week he didn't practice at all and they need to manage him for the postseason. So unless he's running full speed by Friday, I wouldn't count on it.
The 6th seed and still made it to the 'Ship! Own both Lynch and 49ers D. Is it a bad strategy to play both?
Stephania Bell (3:24 PM)
Eric: Well, you have to think if one of them is doing their job, then it's not a great day for the other. All of my fandom aside, I think this is going to be a very tough task for the Niners going up to Seattle. Lynch is likely to get his work regardless. I think the Niners D is good at forcing the turnovers but I'm not convinced they keep Seattle off the board.
Hi Stephania. Any concerns for Roddy White? Is his injury hindering his productivity? What are your expectations for him this week?
Stephania Bell (3:27 PM)
Keith: I haven't watched that game in detail yet so I haven't seen what Roddy did. But I gather from the reports that once they got up big enough, they didn't need to rely on him. Have to believe he's better after getting another week under his belt.
Do you think that Torrey Smith will play this week?
Stephania Bell (3:28 PM)
Tim: You know how it goes with concussions...players have to follow the guidelines and be cleared to return so there's no way to predict. I will say though that I have seen him on Twitter. Take that as an encouraging sign because if a player is struggling with post-concussion symptoms they are often not allowed to tweet, text, etc to allow their brain to rest.
Rob Bobby (Alaska)
IF he gets his feet wet this week and comes out healthy, would you consider starting MJD in week 17? I have many, many RB injuries but a shot at the title.
Stephania Bell (3:30 PM)
I would consider it, but only if I really saw enough in Week 16 to sell me on it. And it would be tough.
Counting on your 49ers homerism here, Stephania! Are you playing Kaep over Big Ben for your Championship in a TD-heavy scoring system where all TDs are 6 pts?
Stephania Bell (3:32 PM)
Jeff: It's hard for me not to say yes. Right now I think there's a chance the Seahawks are without both corners and Kaep has the edge with his legs. Makes me nervous but that's my pick.
HELP A SISTA OUT! Ok to trust Darren McFadden this week, with his ankle troubles behind him? Or would you go with BenJarvus Green-Ellis against a stout Pittsburgh defense? Thanks!
Stephania Bell (3:34 PM)
Emily: Tougher matchup for DMC this week so you may not get all the points you got last week but I probably go with DMC. Showed me enough to give him the edge.
T rich or Dmurray to win my super BOWL!!!????
Stephania Bell (3:35 PM)
Tom: I'm leaning towards Murray. Tough matchup for TRich in Denver.
I made it to the BIG SHOW! I am a Jordy and a Shady owner with backup plans (Steven Jackson and Brandon Lloyd) Id rather start Jordy and Shady in the final game...is that safe if they are both cleared to play or should I stick with my backup plan?
Stephania Bell (3:37 PM)
Nate: I think I like your backups better. Jordy would be risky coming off the hamstring and Shady will share the work with Brown it seems. Jackson will get the work and Lloyd is trending upward.
Brett (Raleigh, NC)
Can you give some thoughts on the health of the Steelers DST? Thanks!
Stephania Bell (3:40 PM)
Brett: Ike Taylor's ankle will keep him out again. Allen has the hip injury and may not be ready in time to replace him. Polamalu still with discomfort in his calf and clearly not playing at full strength (probably won't be for the entire year)...
Kaepernick, Freeman, or Dalton!? I have SEA D so I'm worried --- this is for all the marbles! I'm the only lady in the league!
Stephania Bell (3:42 PM)
Allie: Ouch. To me Kap is the high risk but high reward guy. Could do some damage to Seattle but we've seen a couple less than great outings from him. Dalton has a weakened Pittsburgh D but it's still at Heinz Field and Dalton has either been great or awful it seems. Freeman to me has the best chance for a bounce back against the Rams, at home, wanting to fix the mistakes from last week. Good luck!!
If RG3 starts do you think he's had enough time to be 100%, in other words can he run for his 50-60 yards?
Stephania Bell (3:44 PM)
Paul: I think the only way RG III starts is if he has convinced them he can run without issue. That said, I would not be surprised if they counsel him to go out of bounds more, avoid the unnecessary hits. Not play fearful, but play more sensible. SO perhaps that takes away some of the flash from his running game but I don't think he will be totally constrained. If he plays, that is.
Dirty Harry (Pheonix)
Hey Steph! Flex question here in the championship game. Do I start Sproles vs Dallas or roll with Heath Miller vs Cincy this week? Who gets it done for me?
Stephania Bell (3:46 PM)
Harry: The key for me is whether it's PPR or not. If yes, I go with Sproles. Think he'll get those touches. If not, then Miller for me.
I'm in the final round of my championship game with a comfortable lead. That said, I own both Shady and Bryce. If both are cleared to play, who is the better flex play? (Starting Forte and Spiller at the RB positions)
Stephania Bell (3:48 PM)
Karl: Good question. But I don't overanalyze it...I go back to the starter (although I know he has struggled this year, but Brown also has the fumble-itis). So I go with McCoy.
Almost Happy Holidays Stephania- 2 line up questions for my championship. Denver Seattle or Charger D and Big Ben or Russell Wilson......I know everyone seems concerned with Ben but he had a good game against Dallas.....Not sure why everyone is so down on him. Thanks for all your work
Stephania Bell (3:51 PM)
Scott: These are not easy choices, complicated by my allegiance to SF. I would normally say the Seattle D without hesitation. But if they are without both corners and against SF, then they are less appealing. I think I like the Denver D against a visiting Cleveland. Wilson has shown he can play well against the good teams and still put up yardage but if the SF pass rush is on, they will make it hard on him. Probably depends for me on whether Justin Smith is back for SF. If he is, then I go with Ben.
Hi, Stephania. Do you think Jimmy Graham's wrist is bothering him? Numbers are way down. Thanks!
Stephania Bell (3:55 PM)
Joe: (this is also for Glenn whose question popped up around the exact same time): I do think it's bothering him because he as much as said so. Think it's a reason for the drops. As you said, numbers down (except for number of drops which is up) and I think it's a direct relationship. It's not going to spontaneously improve so it downgrades him. And...what if the Saints decide the best thing to do is rest him? I might wait until the last minute to decide and it would all depend on my options.
Hi Steph...in my first championship against a guy who has utterly dominated this season (he has brady, martin, foster, v jax, j charles, etc.) I need a big win and I am a Lynch and Gore owner. Saw the comments earlier about Lynch still getting work this week, but should I be worried about starting Gore this week? Thanks for the insight as always!
Stephania Bell (3:57 PM)
Jeremy: I understand the apprehension. But earlier this year, Gore's rushing yards vs SEA: 131. Plus over fifty yards receiving. I would play him.
Stephania Bell (3:58 PM)
Craig: Thanks so much for your nice message. Good luck to everyone who has a big game coming up this weekend!! We will be back chatting again on Friday. See you then!
