Nick Friedell (10:37 AM)
Hello from Houston everybody ... Let's get this chat rolling.
Who comes back first, Hinrich or Rose?
Nick Friedell (10:37 AM)
If Rose does decide to sit out this season. Do you think he would be extra rusty next season after being away from the game for 18 months?
Nick Friedell (10:39 AM)
No. If that's the decision he is made I think he would feel very good about where he's at heading into October. Everybody would be on an even playing field in that regard -- everybody is at the same starting point -- not four or five months into a season.
Robert (Geneva IL)
We need a back up center Nazr just doesn't cut it what are the realistic trade scenarios and who can they get and what will it cost the Bulls?
Nick Friedell (10:40 AM)
There aren't many scenarios given the Bulls hard cap situation. They are likely stuck with Nazr for better or worse.
I'll admit I'm not much of a Hinrich fan but the Bulls do seem to miss his tenacity on defense and leadership. How is his elbow responding to treatment?
Nick Friedell (10:41 AM)
The Bulls miss Hinrich badly. Thibs sounded pretty confident that he would be ready to go after the break or soon thereafter.
Peter (Fort Bragg, NC)
Whats the fallout been like since the Rose's comment about possibly sitting out the rest of the regular season? I can only assume that his teammates like the rest of us were anticipating a return this year.
Nick Friedell (10:42 AM)
I think they were -- but the key is that Derrick is beloved in the locker room. The players just want him to get healthy. If that means he has to sit the rest of the season, then so be it. If he comes back, they will welcome him with open arms. He has earned that kind of respect.
Chad (Madison, WI)
Do you get the feeling that maybe D-Rose might still have knee damage? Is it possible the first surgery didn't go well? He talked about how bad things were for the first couple weeks and I know people who have had the surgery and are moving around pretty quickly.
Nick Friedell (10:44 AM)
I don't think there is any damage. I just think he is having the same ups and downs that most people have post-op. Derrick is an elite level athlete and I think the mental aspect of his recovery will hold him up more than the physical part because he was wants to be the same player he was before he got hurt.
Hey Nick,Were you surprised at all that Jimmy Butler wasn't selected for the Rook/Soph game? I was looking forward to watching him get some recognition.
Nick Friedell (10:46 AM)
I was a little bit, but you have to remember that during the first two months of the season Jimmy really didn't play much. It was only after Deng got hurt in January that Jimmy started getting more minutes.
Any concern a rift is developing between Rose's mgmt team and Bull's brass?
Nick Friedell (10:47 AM)
I think it's already started to happen.
Omar (Orland Park)
I don't know about everybody else but I still believe Rose will be back this season. His recent interview was just to get people off his back. Am I crazy, what do you think?
Nick Friedell (10:49 AM)
You aren't crazy, Omar. I think there's still a chance that Derrick comes back this season -- especially if the Bulls get hot after the break -- but I think the odds are now against him making a return this year. I got the sense that he wasn't comfortable with where he was mentally more than anything else.
With Rose seemingly not interested in a return this year, would the Bulls have been better off if Deng went through with his surgery and allow the Bulls to get a lottery pick?
Nick Friedell (10:51 AM)
That will be an interesting question for Deng later today. If he had known for sure that Derrick would be out the rest of the season would he had still opted not to have the surgery? I'm not sure he'll be able to answer that as truthfully as he wants to now, though.
It has been posted Boozer for Bargs....does this trade happen?
Nick Friedell (10:52 AM)
I've thought about this a lot since Marc Stein reported that they were talking a few weeks ago: Why in the world would Toronto want to make this deal? The money on the rest of Boozer's contract is huge.

How do you personally feel abour Rose doing his first interview with USA Today an not espn ?
Nick Friedell (10:56 AM)
Personally, I wished he would have just spoken to the local beat writers first but I'm biased. Derrick was just doing as he was told by his agency. I don't blame USA Today, though. Anybody would have loved to be the first person to speak to Derrick. I think his reps were just trying to get a message out to the masses and they picked a large national entity to do so.
Josh [via mobile]
Do you think that a trade for Reddick and a healthy Rose can bring the bulls over the heat?
Nick Friedell (10:57 AM)
How much are you buying that this is "Rose's Decision" whether or not to come back. The orchestrated nature of that USA Today interview, along with the fact that it seemed to conflict with management's view that he will be back this season, makes it seem like someone else is pulling the strings (i.e. adidas, Arn Tellum's agency, etc). What are your thoughts?
Nick Friedell (11:00 AM)
Nick Friedell (11:01 AM)
With all the money invested in Derrick's future I think there are a lot of different people that are going to have a say. I don't think it will be just Derrick's decision.
Nick Friedell (11:02 AM)
Time to go on Waddle and Silvy, guys. I will talk to you next week before the Bulls-Heat game. If you're at a game this week come over and say hello.
