Stephania Bell (1:09 PM)
Well, now. After a computer crash, I am back up and running. Must have been too many injuries. Many questions already so here we go...
Justin (New Orleans)
Hello Stephania. My team got bit by the injury bug this week. What's the latest on Reggie Bush & MJD? Could I expect either to play week 3? Thanks for your help.
Stephania Bell (1:12 PM)
Justin: Bush apparently with no significant injury on MRI per Lions. Sounds like he'll play this week. As for MJD, they're calling it a tendon strain (vague) and it's not clear he'll play this week. After all, given the matchup, they may rest him.
I know concussions are so unpredictable, but how much would you spend out of a $100 budget to get Starks?
Stephania Bell (1:15 PM)
Kenny: Depends on your other RBs. GB has a bye in Week 4 and I imagine there's a good chance he sits. If you NEED a starter in a deep league, you know Starks will start if Lacy sits. Prob put up $20-ish if you think there will be competition.
do you think steven jackson plays this week?
Stephania Bell (1:16 PM)
Chris: Zero word out of Atlanta until Weds. SJax usually tries to play through things unless he absolutely can't go.
It's obviously still early in the week, but it looks like Andre Johnson is doing well. Do you think that fantasy owners can expect the usual Andre Johnson this upcoming Sunday?
Stephania Bell (1:18 PM)
Rusty: With concussions, as you know, can't predict. I will say that the fact he's been riding the bike is a good sign (see my Lacy blog post from yesterday) b/c it means he's pushing some cardiovascular work - wouldn't do that if he had resting symptoms.
Would you rather have Joique Bell or Bernard Pierce ROS considering the injuries that ReggieBush and RayRice have so far? Thks Stephania
Stephania Bell (1:19 PM)
Andy: Joique Bell. Not only for injury purposes but he'll be utilized even with Bush there.
SJax Owner (Help)
SJax out 2-4 weeks. Who do you like better as SJax backup in PPR: Rodgers or Snelling?
Stephania Bell (1:22 PM)
Well, this just in. Actually a report from NFL.com saying he MIGHT be out that long. Don't trust the Falcons (see: Roddy White) and we'll hear from Smith officially tomorrow. But for planning, Rodgers will likely get more of SJax's work. Snelling will be on the field more though with their fullback lost for the season. Prob ROdgers.
Josh (Los Angeles)
Seems like Jamal Charles is relatively fine, do you expect a nice week against the eagles?
Stephania Bell (1:23 PM)
Josh: He said his quad was a little sore but he came through the game OK and another week should help. Yes, nice opportunity vs Eagles.
Hi Stephania, Niners need to turn things around. Gronk says 50/50 he return this week - your professional thoughts on the matter please? Thanks
Stephania Bell (1:25 PM)
Missy: Yes, unfortunate outing for the Niners. I expect better this week, for sure. Gronk 50/50 leaves us at a "questionable" designation heading into the weekend. And Friday will tell us a lot. Think it will literally come down to that point. I feel far more confident about Week 4...but it really has to do more with proving he's able to handle a full game at game speed.
what the deal with Brandon Weeden's thumb.....i am thinking of picking up Minnesota D this weekend
Stephania Bell (1:25 PM)
Keith: Sprained. Sounds like he will miss this week.
Alex (Palm Harbor, FL)
Thoughts on Harvin coming back in week 7? He was dropped in my non-keeper league, thinking of the adding him to my bench.
Stephania Bell (1:28 PM)
Alex: Still think Week 7 is pushing it. Will be just at the timeline for biologic healing within the hip. And he can just start practicing with the team after 6 weeks. But I hear his conditioning maintenance has been excellent. I would say he appears he could beat the 4 months post-op timeline but Week 7 sounds early...maybe in the Week 9 range?
Mike (Orange County)
By when should we know if rice is playing this week and if he does play what should we expect out of him against the Texas D?
Stephania Bell (1:29 PM)
Mike: Despite Ravens optimism, we really need to see him work in practice and I doubt we'll see full work - at least not until the end of the week. Wouldn't surprise me if he missed or if active, if he took a lesser role this week.
What's the latest on Amendola? Heard he might have surgery putting him out longer?
Stephania Bell (1:32 PM)
Dan: Reports are varied. Possible surgery, then he's in practice on a limited basis. Sounds like what we already knew - a moderate strain (my interpretation based on how it has behaved, not official) which by definition is a tear of a portion of the groin muscles (adductors). Sports hernia can be a confounding diagnosis as it can involve tearing of adductors near where they attach. For now I think they continue to treat it as a "functional" injury - meaning how well can he function in the presence of it. If he can play, he does. If he tries, but can't, there may be no choice but to go another route. Does not appear a decision has been made yet.
Hail to the Redskins (VA)
With RG3 seemingly unable to run like he used to, are we to expect THIS is the RG3 he will be for the long term or do you think he will ever regain the form of last year.
Stephania Bell (1:34 PM)
I absolutely think he regains his form. He is essentially "rehabbing" into the early part of the season, along with a new approach on offense by the team, etc, etc. He will round into form.
Steve (San Francisco)
How is Hakeem Nicks Finger going to effect him this week?
Stephania Bell (1:35 PM)
Steve: Don't think it should. May be sore but we shouldn't see it be a huge factor.
Tony (San Francisco )
As a Peyton Manning owner I am terribly concerned with him being blind sided How long do you expect Clady to miss?
Stephania Bell (1:36 PM)
Tony: This is a bad injury, as you know. All anyone can offer right now is "multiple weeks." It could be that or it could end his season, not definite yet.
Adam (El Cerrito)
I'm feeling that there's definitely going to be some mention on Vernon Davis soon. He's a top 5 TE with an injury - has to apply to a lot of valuable ESPN readers, right?
Stephania Bell (1:39 PM)
Adam: Your feelings are on target. There are enough injuries to go around...With them having played on Monday night, you know we are not getting any info until later in the week (prob Weds). But you saw him with ice on his hamstring at the end of the game. Imagine he'll try to go unless it's significant but with no indication of whether he'll practice yet, it's up in the air.
What is up with Roddy? Should I be targeting him on the cheap from a frustrated owner?
Stephania Bell (1:40 PM)
YES. Roddy is on the mend from this but it may be another week or two before he's playing up to his level. Expect he gets his form back and I'd grab him while someone else is down on him. Understand that you may not get much out of him for the next couple weeks.
Heath Miller: Coach Mike Tomlin expects Miller (knee) to be a full participant in practice this week. Do you think he plays? BTW: I love your work.
Stephania Bell (1:42 PM)
Jacob: Thank you. I think he's very close. The Steelers understandably working him back gradually -regardless of how much they might like to have him out there - given that this was a multi-ligament, very serious injury. If he is able to go full every day without issue, then I suspect we will see him on the field.
Andrew (Austin, TX)
Supposing Amendola plays this week, how risky a play is he? Would you start him, or would you be too worried about re-injury?
Stephania Bell (1:44 PM)
Andrew: Let me start by saying he was on my undraftable list...and that list is pretty short for me b/c I am of the belief anyone can get hurt. I will be worried about his ability to get through the season period. Now you saw what he did when he came back in the second half of the first game and played well, despite aggravating it. You could certainly get nice production out of him but if you're asking about worry of re-injury, my worry level is high.
Any news on Larry Fitz? Does he play this wk?
Stephania Bell (1:47 PM)
Dave: He started feeling pain in his leg during the game which is why he came out. Hard to know whether he can really be 100 percent after another week. DOesn't mean he won't play. Just may be hard for us to know where he is on the recovery trajectory.
Peter J (Newport News, VA)
If an athlete sprains his ankle or pulls a groin, I cant help but compare thier injuries to ones I have experienced. Ofcourse they have state of the art treatment and medical staff, but my thought is, how is a sprained ankle or hamstring injury every going to fully heal? Some injuries need ample rest right? And with only 6 days of potential rest between games, how are we to put confidence in the fact anyone who gets hurt ever fully heals during a season? Does that make sense?
Stephania Bell (1:49 PM)
Peter: YES - everything you say makes sense. We're really talking about functional recovery most of the time, as in well enough to play without it showing up in their game in the form of significant pain or compensation. Some of the minor injuries will heal (or heal sufficiently) but some things will be "managed" to get through the season.
Andrew (Iowa City)
Hey what's up with Dez's back seems like it is starting to be a chronic issue? any worry it could be something structural or just a strain
Stephania Bell (1:51 PM)
Andrew: Hard to know. He has had the ongoing hip/back/pelvis issues but hard to know whether they're related. The flare-ups have been pretty spread out time-wise. Not sure I'd label that as a chronic issue but, generally speaking, he does have a fairly significant injury history.
BD (Seahawks Country)
Not to rub salt in the wounds, but my 'Hawks DST looked great without their full complement of starters, but do you expect Browner or Clemons back this week?
Stephania Bell (1:53 PM)
BD: Nope, gotta hand it to your team. The D was impressive. And despite my Niners loss, the Seattle D helped me win the war room league game this week. Clemons is getting close. I think either this week or next. Browner I suspect will return this week unless the leg acts up during practice.
Have you heard anything about whether or not David Wright will play tonight?
Stephania Bell (1:54 PM)
Matt: Sorry, haven't heard definitive word yet.
What's the news on MJD?
Stephania Bell (1:56 PM)
BPA: Vague diagnosis- tendon strain - but there's reason to think he may not start this week. Doesn't help that it's on the same side as the foot he had surgery on. The foot has healed but you certainly don't want him compensating and adversely stressing the area.
Hello Stephania, what's up with today's podcast, is there going to be one?
Stephania Bell (1:56 PM)
Eric: THere is one and we tweeted the link earlier.
With Rice injury, and Pierce available, do you use #1 waiver on him?
Stephania Bell (1:58 PM)
Rob: I definitely would unless you have another RB1 or 2 to plug in.
Need WR help, trade Arian Foster for Brandon Marshall? I have Trent Richardson and Chris Johnson. In general, who wins in that trade?
Stephania Bell (2:00 PM)
Steve: I am not trading Arian Foster. I think Richardson has had a slow start and gets better. Worry mote about the ups/downs of C Johnson. The one you would be trading to wins.
I know it's football season but Matt Harvey went for a check-up with Dr. Andrews yesterday. Any news on him? Somebody worth hanging onto in a keeper (have him for a killer price and would hate to lose him, but I don't have the bench space for a whole season)?
Stephania Bell (2:03 PM)
Matt: The Mets supposed to be releasing some news today on Harvey. He was returning to NY to discuss with team today. You have to imagine he will miss all of 2014 with surgery...and the other is a big unknown (if he goes without). Would have to be willing to wait another year.
post your question or commentpick one... J.Rodgers, J.Starks, or Vincent Brown... Please..
Stephania Bell (2:05 PM)
Devin: Starks if you need short-term production. Lacy will be back, perhaps not until Week 5. Rodgers second. Brown third.
Stephania Bell (2:06 PM)
THanks for coming folks. Have to run. Appreciate the questions. See you Friday!
