Stephania Bell (11:46 AM)
Happy Friday! What's on your mind?
Brad (Bored in School)
Is next week a possibility for Rodgers? If so, how healthy will he be and should I start him over Nick Foles if Rodgers does play?
Stephania Bell (11:53 AM)
Hey Brad: (Sorry - for the delay there) Pay attention in school! But I'll also tell you that the way the Packers are talking now they sure sound like they are leaving a return open for him. But...it all depends on when he gets medical clearance which could be any day or could be not at all. The concern would be a re-fracture if he takes a hard hit. If he plays, definitely start him. But just know you'll be in a bit of a wait-and-see game.
Any update on J. Thomas (den) Thanks for all your great info.
Stephania Bell (11:54 AM)
Michelle: Thanks! Yes, practiced fully yesterday (something we really wanted to see). Knee had stiffened up a bit early in week but if he goes again in Friday practice, expect him to play.
Hi Stephania. I hope you have some good plans this weekend. Anyway, did you watch the tape on Roddy White? What do you think? Thanks.
Stephania Bell (11:56 AM)
Jordan: My weekend plans (no lie) consist of the majority of Saturday spent prepping all the final notes on players for my Saturday blog entry in advance of the Sunday show. SUnday is the show, then watching football. I have to say, not a bad way to spend your weekend but not very flashy.I did watch Roddy and have to say that it was great to see him move so freely for the first time in a long time. This is the ROddy White we know and love. And he is back.Like him going forward and fingers crossed, no setbacks.
Greetings Stephania! I just wanted to get your input on Harvin I think most people assume he won't play but some of Pete Carroll's comments may give you some false hope about him coming back. Safe to just move on from Harvin this year? Thanks for your great work!
Stephania Bell (11:58 AM)
Charlie: Thank you! I wouldn't rush to assume that he won't play rest of regular season. I really do believe he is on a day-to-day basis. After his little flare-up, they recognize the need to be cautious but that could still allow for him to return. What I will say is that they will likely continue to monitor his activity, i.e. not let him out there completely unrestricted. So for a fantasy playoff, not sure I'd be counting on him at all. Wait until next year.
Jeff (Orange, CA)
Any updates on Denarius Moore? Do we know anything about Andre Holmes? Fluke or maybe really good?
Stephania Bell (11:59 AM)
Jeff: Denarius Moore not likely to play. Holmes seems a bit fluky from last week. Still like Streater.
Any update on who is starting in Chicago?
Stephania Bell (11:59 AM)
Sonia V. (West Melbourne,Fla.)
Stephania Happy Holidays to you! R.Bush owner in standard 10 team needing to know his week 14 status! Best backup flex,if needed: Stacy,M.Floyd or Julius Thomas?
Stephania Bell (12:02 PM)
Hi Sonia: Happy holidays to you also. I expect Bush will play, even though he wasn't doing much yesterday. He was reportedly moving well, working on ball protection. I'll feel more confident if I see he did increased work today but don't know that just yet. Backup my choice is probably Stacy. Guaranteed touches. Tough run D - do worry about him getting in the end zone but he'll at least get you something.
PJ (New Orleans)
Hi Stephania, Do you think Rashad Jennings and Delanie Walker will be cleared today to play on Sunday?
Stephania Bell (12:04 PM)
PJ: Even if they are, Jordan Reed is Exhibit A as to what can happen late before a game. Walker reportedly underwent a rigorous workout away from the facility yesterday and could get cleared to practice today. Jennings did back to back limied practices and all signs are good, but he still has to get final clearance AND make it to kickoff with no symptom recurrence.
Alan M. (Columbus, OH)
Hi Stephania! Hope you are far away from the snow! Any update on MJD? Injury seemed minor, but will it have a lingering effect for the next three weeks of playoffs?
Stephania Bell (12:05 PM)
Alan: I am happy to say we have barely seen a trace of snow so far this year (fingers crossed it holds out through mid-December). Hamstring issue for MJD,. No word on severity but you have to be at least a little concerned for next week. The nice thing is the extra time between games. Keep an eye on what he does early next week in practice.
Starphania! I just read that Carson Palmer remained limited in Thursday's practice; what are your feelings about his chances to play this weekend?
Stephania Bell (12:07 PM)
Jason: I get the sense that they expect him to play although I want to see how he comes out of today's practice and how they list his status. My bigger concern might be how he plays if he is active. Will the elbow be a problem, esp for the deeper throws? Definitely a concern.
Any news on Spiller? Heard about the tweak of the ankle on Sunday, but haven't heard much since.
Stephania Bell (12:09 PM)
Tyler: He's not on the injury report so there's nothing official from the Bills' vantage point. But I think we all saw what we saw. Big plays (always the upside potential with him) but intermittently limping afterward. No denying that this is not 100% behind him. Think he still offers potential but the ankle is a legit concern as to whether it will impair him (fully expect him to play).
McCown is that "cut" and dry? No chance of Cutty Sark gutting one out, or Trestman playing games here? It's terrifying to think it could fall apart Monday night, and I have Rivers facing the g-guys...
Stephania Bell (12:11 PM)
Trevor: The team came out and said Cutler is ruled out for Monday night so I don't expect him to all of a sudden be active.
Stephania Bell (12:12 PM)
Little update: Jones-Drew to get MRI today.
Speaking of Chicago - what about Marshall? Did his quad contribute to lack of production last week? Should I sit him and flex Andre Brown or A. Morris? Need two of three. Thanks.
Stephania Bell (12:15 PM)
Craig: Perhaps. But no one is really letting on and it wasn't significant enough to cause a great deal of worry amongst those who cover the Bears routinely. He was given Thurs off b/c of the quad but that is the first formal report of the week for them since they play Monday. Don't think I'd bench him here.
Hi Stephania, I'm a big fan of you and the work that you do. What are the chances that Derrick Rose can get back to being the same player? Is he at risk for reinjuring a knee?
Stephania Bell (12:18 PM)
Kevin: Thank you. We'll move to hoops for a moment. Long answer to a short question but we don't really know if he can. After all, he will have missed essentially close to two years (presuming he doesn't return at all this year) minus a handful of games, where, honestly he didn't look fantastic (probably still getting his feet wet at the competition level). It's not so much the risk of future injury (although we see he is an injury risk in general) because the repair was done with the intent to long-term protect the joint. It's more the skills and can he dominate and have longevity in the sport. We certainly hope so! But need the proof...
Can you ease my fears on Peyton? Should I be looking to add a backup QB?
Stephania Bell (12:21 PM)
Nick: I'm not sure I understand the panic on Peyton. If there's anything physical, we know his ankle is not perfect but he's certainly shown he can play. While he hasn't performed as well in the winter over the larger sample size, he's only played in Denver for now two seasons. In other words, now he can practice(as they did yesterday) in frigid temps. He might not put up crazy numbers each week depending on weather but I wouldn't write him off.
With Stacy being 2 weeks removed from concussion and tough match up this week would you recomend playing Ball, Ivory or BJGE instead? Thx
Stephania Bell (12:23 PM)
Kia: I'm totally with you on the tough matchup for Stacy and as such, I'm not counting on the awesome numbers he has shown in recent weeks. But I still start him over the three options you list here. In fact, prob not benching him. Just too much upside potential.
How do you feel about starting J.Reed or Witten??
Stephania Bell (12:25 PM)
Terence: GIven the uncertainty of Reed (he was back in limited practice yesterday, he expects to play, but we remember what happened last week and he is by no means a lock), Witten without a doubt.
Ka (Hong Kong)
Hi, Stephania! Any concerns on V. Jackson? Go, Niners!!!
Stephania Bell (12:27 PM)
Ka: Welcome - thanks for joining from afar! Jackson back in practice again today. Two limited practices due to a sore hamstring. While we do always have a bit of concern about hamstrings acting up in game, Jackson has played well through similar issues before. Judging from the 2 practices, not as worried.
Stu "Bear" (Virginia)
Just looking for your expert opinion ... I have Brees and Foles on 3 of my teams .. I am seriously thinking of playing Foles ... but ....... the weather is supposed to be bad in Philly Sunday ... your idea on who you would start ... thank you .
Stephania Bell (12:30 PM)
Stu "Bear": I would start Brees and not overthink it. I know about the Panthers D and we saw the disaster that was the Saints on Monday night in Seattle but a) no way that happens twice and b) Saints are really good at home (fun stat: Payton on sidelines = 14 straight home wins).
Bobby (Rochester, NY)
Do you think Gronks re-injury to broken arm is making the packers more cautious with Rodgers? And do you think they should just shut him down since he is so valuable?
Stephania Bell (12:34 PM)
Bobby: Not so much Gronk's injury but collarbones in general are susceptible to re-injury. It happened to Adrian Peterson (if you go way back to college when he sustained the injury). They insist they won't just shut him down - and maybe they won't - but it really depends how confident they are in one thing: how much chance is there that bone re-breaks if he is driven into the ground on that left side. If it does happen, everyone will be second guessed. All of which makes every week that goes by seem to increase the likelihood he doesn't return. If however the bone looked good but they wanted the cushion of another week or so, then maybe they let him out there in the final week or two so that he goes into the offseason (presuming they fail to advance to any playoff) feeling confident.
Ben (Dover, ME)
Can we get some Randy Cobb love for week 15?
Stephania Bell (12:37 PM)
Ben: Hard to give that when there has literally been no word on him of late. In fact, spoke with Rob Demovsky who covers Packers for us (and he has covered them for years) and he also says it has been very quiet when it comes to the details of Cobb's injury and his status. If they fall out of playoff contention, wonder if he'd even return.
L. Bell good to go? A nasty hit last week....
Stephania Bell (12:39 PM)
Mike: As close as you can get to saying a player with a concussion will go (remember, all the way up to kickoff there is the possibility of a change in status) but he says he feels great and that he has "passed all his tests." Still needs final game clearance but I like his chances at this point.
Merry Chirstmas, Stephania! I have some terrible matchups this week at WR. I was thinking of running Steve Johnson on Sunday. Do you know if Revis will be available this week for Tampa Bay? Thanks for your insights.
Stephania Bell (12:41 PM)
Winnie: It appears Revis will play this Sunday, yes. And, thank you.
Stephania Bell (12:42 PM)
THis just in from Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer: Jason Campbell cleared to start Sunday (barring, of course any setback). Josh Gordon owners rejoice!
Stephania Bell (12:46 PM)
For those of you pointing out my failure to pick up the fake name, I am so focused on the questions, I don't usually sound out the names to see if the third grade humorists out there are writing in. Thanks to all of you who respect the chat room. On that note, have a great weekend and good luck in the first round of your playoffs!!!
