Buzzmaster (2:20 PM)
Nick is running a little late after his radio obligation. He will be here shortly to answer your Bulls questions.
Buzzmaster (2:21 PM)
Just heard that Nick will be here at 1:30 p.m. CT/2:30 p.m. ET.
Nick Friedell (2:33 PM)
What's going on everybody? How are things going? Let's get this chat rolling as we come to the end of RedickWatch ...
Marlon (Park Forest)
Has there been any indication from the Magic camp whether they will resign Redick?
Nick Friedell (2:34 PM)
Nothing yet. I still think the Magic will match but I've heard no indication as to what their decision will be heading into tomorrow.
Silvy's Forehead Sweat (ESPN1000 studios)
What is your win prediction for the Bulls with and without JJ?
Nick Friedell (2:38 PM)
Whether the Bulls get Redick or not I actually don't think it will make that much of a difference, maybe a couple of games. If the Bulls land Redick, and a few other pieces, I think they end up right around 50 wins. If not, and let's say they end up with Brewer I still think they end up with 45-47 wins. Either way, they are going to be a significantly better team.
Dave (Glendale Heights)
Hey Nick...I caught some of you, Hoodie and JR covering for Waddle and Silvy today...good stuff. Why am I not hearing more about the Bulls targeting Matt Barnes? I read your blog about that and I agree that he would be a good fit. I like the Bulls acquisitions so far this offseason, but it seems we're getting guys who are more offense than defense and we would be well served to get a solid on-ball defender like Barnes. Agree?
Nick Friedell (2:41 PM)
Absolutely. I'm sure the Bulls have talked to Barnes -- like everything else it all comes down to how much money and years they will offer. I think if the Bulls offer a 3 year deal between 12-15 million they will get him.
Should the bulls target Tracy McGrady if the Magic decide to match on Redick?
Nick Friedell (2:43 PM)
T-Mac has definitely lost a stop ... probably two. I'm sure the Bulls will talk to him, but I'd be surprised if he ended up in Chicago. He has never been known as much of a defender over the last few years and he isn't getting any younger.
Even if the Bulls sign Redick, aren't we still weak at SG? Redick and Couver are shooters first, but they don't offer much else, do they?
Nick Friedell (2:44 PM)
Redick is a much better defender than he is given credit for. Brewer is a little more athletic than Redick but not as good of a shooter. After losing out on LeBron/Wade I think this is the best the Bulls could do.
What percent chance do you give for a lockout next year? 50%, 75%, more?
Nick Friedell (2:46 PM)
If you believe everything you hear I'd put the percentage at around 75%. People around definitely seem to be preparing for one.
Are there any chances the Bulls resign Brad Miller?
Nick Friedell (2:47 PM)
Yes. I think the Bulls would like to bring Miller back for the right price. He is supposed to make his decision in the next day or two so we'll see.
Enterprise, AL [via mobile]
Any possibility that Luol Deng is traded before the season starts? And what could we get for him?
Nick Friedell (2:48 PM)
Highly unlikely. Nobody wants Deng's deal -- it's that simple.
Mel (Colorado Springs)
Greetings Nick, if the Magic don't match Redick would he become the Bulls starting SG?
Nick Friedell (2:49 PM)
Yes, he would. Redick would start and Korver would come off the bench.
john yemassee sc [via mobile]
is carlos boozer a good fit for the bulls... this reminds me of elton brand and the 76ers signing a couple of yrs ago what do you think
Nick Friedell (2:51 PM)
I actually think Boozer is a great fit for the Bulls, probably even a better one than Chris Bosh would have been. If he stays healthy, and that of course is a big if, he will be a 20-10 player for the Bulls next year.
ESPNChicago should host a 'The Decision' episode for Brad Miller.
Nick Friedell (2:52 PM)
That is a great idea. I have no doubt that would be sponsored by Skoal.
Rose is the only point guard on the roster. Who is going to back him up this season at pg.
Nick Friedell (2:54 PM)
That is the biggest question left on this roster aside from whether Redick's offer is matched or not. I think Acie Law and John Lucas III will get a look, but I think the Bulls will find a veteran to fill the role in the next month.
Iain K. (Cambridge, MA)
Nick - How much size does Omer Asik have? I worry that the Bulls big men are a little small overall
Nick Friedell (2:55 PM)
I saw him at the Berto Center a few weeks ago. He's a legitimately big guy. If he hits the gym and adds a little more muscle I think he could be a contributor early next season, at least for about 10-12 minutes a game.
Is Noah all the way back from Plantar Fasicaits (sp)?
Nick Friedell (2:56 PM)
Yes, he is. But the Bulls will monitor him closely to see how he responds, especially early on in training camp.
How much of an improvement (or any) do you see in Derrick Rose's game this year?
Nick Friedell (2:57 PM)
A big one. He has been working on his shot for months now. I would expect him to add a conistent long range shot to his arsenal this season. He will continue to build on his success from last year and I full expect him to be an All Star again.
Hey Nick, money wise any chance the bulls can get all three(redick/brewer&Barnes)?? or at least brewer and barnes if redick stays with Orlando?
Nick Friedell (2:58 PM)
All three is a stretch, but they certainly have enough to land Brewer and Barnes if that is the direction they go.
Bruce Wayne (Bat Cave)
Who will be Derrick Rose's (hes a Batman like me) Robin??
Nick Friedell (2:59 PM)
Bruce, he doesn't have one at the moment. Noah and Boozer will have to do for now. Once another superstar comes in here and joins the Bulls then the team can contend for a title.
With all of the player turnover in the Central Division this year, I believe the Bulls have positioned themselves to win the division. Do you see anybody else challenging them?
Nick Friedell (3:01 PM)
The Bucks pose the biggest challenge. They are pretty solid, but I still think the Bulls have enough to take the division.
So you are saying there's no chance the Bulls can contend for a title without 2 superstars? Did the Pistons of a few years ago teach you nothing?
Nick Friedell (3:02 PM)
I just don't see it happening this year. Again, the Bulls will be a lot better, but I don't they have enough right now to win a title.
Hi Nick, do you think there will be a chance to land a big free agent next offseason like Carmelo?
Nick Friedell (3:03 PM)
I don't think Carmelo is going to play anywhere besides Denver or NYC.
Noshayah Morgan (New York, NY)
Do you think the Bulls will end up with a better Defensive Team, and altogether a better 'TEAM' than the Miami Ring chasers?
Nick Friedell (3:05 PM)
They may have a better "team", but who cares? The Heat have more talent, at least right now.
What are the chances that we see Marissa Miller again around the Berto center and UC?
Nick Friedell (3:07 PM)
Hopefully very high. I also would like to personally invite Maria Menounos to the Bulls/Celtics games next year. She is without question the most gorgeous legitimate basketball fan in the world.
Will the Bulls be looking into a new Mascot. Benny seems to be looking to go to southbeach?
Nick Friedell (3:08 PM)
Yeah, I heard. Tell him to take that goofy green suit with him.
Tim (Arlington Heights)
Anything abour Rose and Team USA?
Nick Friedell (3:09 PM)
Camp starts next week. He has a solid chance to make the team now that Williams and Paul won't be there.
Any chance you see the Bulls making a play for Gilbert Arenas?
Nick Friedell (3:10 PM)
Doubt it. The contract is way too big and he has too much baggage.
call me crazy but i think we could take the heat in a seven game series deep bench is the key
Nick Friedell (3:10 PM)
Greg, Talent wins in the postseason and I don't think the Bulls have enough right now.
Nick, your view on superstars is overrated, bring back a T-Mac or bring in a Iguodala and you'd be an easy contender. You may argue otherwise but you're basically going off of mainstream POVs of basketball not logic.
Nick Friedell (3:13 PM)
So, you're telling me that Andre Iguodala can be the second option on an NBA champion? The Bulls are a "contender" right now. But they're only going to win a title once they add another superstar -- Iguodala is not that guy.
With the crazy contracts given out this offseason, why is Dengs considered so bad?
Nick Friedell (3:13 PM)
Because he misses a bunch of games and doesn't put up the type of numbers that you expect when you pay someone that mcuh money.
Nick, do you think the Bulls need to get a strong defensive player to handle LeBron and Wade?
Nick Friedell (3:15 PM)
Yes, I do. And I think Barnes is that guy. Brewer would work as well, but I think Barnes would provide the type of veteran leadership that work well on this young team.
Trevor (Champaign (IL) )
Hi Nick! I was really wondering what the main reason LeBron skipped Chicago was. I mean, he said in his decision special that he was looking for a place to go with good players and championship potential. Chicago had Boozer, Rose, Noah, and with him... Why did he choose the good players in Miami over the good players in Chicago?
Nick Friedell (3:18 PM)
Trevor, it boiled down to LeBron wanting to play with Wade and Bosh and they only place where that was going to happen was in Miami.
Jeremy (Des Moines)
Hey Nick, remember that Detroit team that won the championship a few years back? You are absolutely right the the bigger talents normally win in the post season, but not always sir! Bulls could mirror that Detroit team in the coming years as they all learn their new system together.
Nick Friedell (3:20 PM)
Look, the Bulls are going to be very good next year, but I just don't think they have enough to win right now. They are still missing one more piece in my opinion. Detroit had Billups, B. Wallace, R. Wallace, Prince and Hamilton among others. It wasn't like they were lacking in great players. I still think the Bulls are missing one.
How do the Magic rationalize spending 14 mildo for Redick next season? I just don't see them doing this and have trouble calling it a done deal the Magic match.
Nick Friedell (3:23 PM)
Nobody said it was a done deal. The Devos family wants to a win a title and they'd love to win one in the first year of the new arena in Orlando. That's why I wouldn't put it past them to match the Redick offer sheet.
Why didn't the Bulls go after Raja Bell harder? Over the next 3 years I would have liked him even more than Redick. He's a veteran SG who is a premier defender and can shoot the 3.
Nick Friedell (3:24 PM)
Because his body is starting to break down and I don't think they thought he could hold up through three years.
Tony Parker (SA)
I think I know a fan who is more beautiful than Maria.
Nick Friedell (3:24 PM)
Sorry, Tony. Maria > Eva.
Kurt Hinrich (DC)
Do you think Thibs will actually get Boozer and Korver(and Derrick) to become adequate defensive players?
Nick Friedell (3:26 PM)
What's up Kurt? How's the Metro? He did for Paul Pierce and Ray Allen so why wouldn't he be able to with Boozer, Korver and Rose.
I miss Ben Gordon at times like this. Gave him away at his prime. What a shame.
Nick Friedell (3:27 PM)
True, Carlos. But would you want to pay that contract now?
Nick Friedell (3:29 PM)
Ok, guys. I'm out of here. I'll talk to you all from Vegas next week. Talk to you later. Try not to freak out during the end of RedickWatch ...
