Jurko (1:01 PM)
Last week was brutal for the Bears. Can't believe how awful they looked. Hopefully no repeat performance. Have to protect Cutler better and Martz needs to run just to save Cutler.
Ryan (Evergreen Park)
Even though it's rare in the NFL, can the Bears make some kind of trade before the deadline to improve their situation at O-line?
Jurko (1:02 PM)
They can make some kind of trade, but there are so few and far between where you get a trade that helps a team. Can they? Yes, but you'd be overpaying for it.
Kellen Davis has been very disappointing to me so far this season. In both the games he has allowed the defensive end to get to Cutler and hit him hard. Is Kellen under fire from the coaching staff?
Jurko (1:03 PM)
He needs to be under fire. He's been a major disappointment so far. Supposed to be answer, and not remotely the answer. Almost makes people long for Olsen.
Justin (Winfield, IL)
Is Clay Matthews going to absolutely embarrass Frank Omiyale on Sunday? Repeatedly and mercilessly? Or is there potential for a good game from him?
Jurko (1:04 PM)
I'm hoping for potential for a good game. Mathews hasn't been 100 percent, so hopefully that will mean a decent combination for the Bears.
Carl (T.F. North Alum) (Virginia)
Jurko...I feel that if the Bears want a legit shot at winning vs. the Pack, they have two figure a way to get to Rodgers early and often and at the same time find a way to stop the slant route which always seems to work (for 8 yards) against the Bears....thoughts?
Jurko (1:06 PM)
Of course they have to pressure Rodgers. But they'll have to be smart about it. Last week they allowed a receiver to beat two-deep coverage. That should never happen. Peanut's been good on the slant. The deep ball is what concerns me.
DannyP (South Windsor, CT)
Jurko, I was watching the game sunday on fox and they kept showing Cutler yelling and alienating himself as far from the team as possible on the sideline. Is there anyway you think the lineman don't like his demeanor and maybe purposely let up a bit so he can take some punishment it seems cruel but hey we are all human!?
Jurko (1:07 PM)
The QB's positioning on the bench should be on the offensive half at about the 47-yard line. That way the coaches can get to him no matter if they're going up or down the field and he's closest to the telephones there.
Vikas Arya (Washington DC)
I heard Mike Ditka say it this week and it only confirmed what I have feared since watching the Cutler in the Saints game; the man is damaged goods. An elite quarterback, mind you a pro-bowl quaterback has been ruined by the front office's neglect for developing an offensive line. Maybe Mushin Muhamad was right; Chicago is where recievers and quarterbacks go to die.
Jurko (1:08 PM)
There will be passing records set around the NFL this season. The only record the Bears could set is how many times their QB gets sacked. It's amazing how out of step Mike Martz is.
Jurko-biggest question (for the bears), coming into this packers game, other than the offensive line?
Jurko (1:09 PM)
WR depth. If Williams and Bennett aren't playing, you have 4 wide receivers. Surprised there weren't workouts for free-agent WRs on Tuesday.
Jeff (Houston, TX)
Hey Jurko,We all know the NFL is a week to week business, but given your playing experience..how long does it really take to get a beat down like the one last week out of your head?
Jurko (1:10 PM)
If you win against G.B. it's gone. The good pros can get rid of it right away. The great ones get rid of the wins, too.
Emery (Not Where I Would Like to Be)
When are Bears fans going to realize that the Bears organization is a bottom tier run organization? Lovie is a terrible coach with that being an insult to terrible coaches. No O-Line, no WRs, fragile minded QB, no half time adjustments, can't draft. All this and the people at my work think they are Super Bowl caliber every year. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid Bears fans you are now the third best team in your division. With that being said Jurko...can you please give Harry some Homer meds ?
Jurko (1:11 PM)
Lovie's been the miracle worker here. Angelo keeps giving him sub-standard talent and he finds a way to get to the playoffs.
E (The World) [via mobile]
Jurko. Peace onto you. I've made a discovery in life. When it comes to the University of Florida, you have a lot of talent. However, there are two positions that places some of the worst players in the NFL: QB and Safety (seemingly FS). Just think of it: Rex, Weurffel (sp), Reggie Nelson, Tebow (he's just terrible) for examples. Which brings me Major Wright. My God is he awful. Major Wright is a major wrong. I don't even wish anyone hurt or have their career ended but damn... I actually said "Well at least he's guaranteed not to (expletive) up now".
Jurko (1:12 PM)
It doesn't look like he has a feel for the position. Almost like they gave it to him because they had no place else to put him, in college it's also what they did with him.
Hey Jurko, loved you as a Packer. Did you ever get, or ever intend on getting even for that cheap shot you took in the playoffs against the evil Cowboys? Thanks.
Jurko (1:13 PM)
I saw Eric Williams last year at the Super Bowl, and the guy had to walk with two canes. His hips are destroyed. But karma catches up with everyone.
Raul (La Verne,CA)
Now that the Bears have pretty much repeated the first half of last season in just two games this season. Do you think even with injuries to the offensive line that both Mike's (Martz&Tice) can fix the offense by focusing on the running game? I for one believe we WILL beat the pack if we gain over 100 yds rushing.
Jurko (1:14 PM)
They have to go back and dummy everything down again. You're not running for balance. You're running the ball so Cutler doesn't get destroyed.
Tom (New Jersey)
It seems as though the coaching staff especially Martz gets to sign the players he wants(Roy Williams, Manumaliuna, blocking tight ends). Why then would Jerry Angelo sign Spencer without the approval of the coaching staff, and assumption that he would step right in to the starting lineup?
Jurko (1:15 PM)
Spencer is a professional center, who can back up at guard. Why they play the two -- including Garza -- out of position is beyond the realm of comprehension.
The Bears defense was successful against the Packers offense in two of the three meetings last year. But Jermichael Finley went wild against them in the first game. How will the Bears handle his return?
Jurko (1:16 PM)
Finley. Nelson. Driver. Jones. Jennings. Starks. The list goes on and on. This will be the toughest test for the Bears defense.
Do you believe Cutler is starting to looked shell shocked like the David Carr's and Marc Bulger's of the world? I see him often just step up into the pocket and brace himself for a sack rather than taking a quick check down.
Jurko (1:17 PM)
It's usually a progression during a game. He's fine at the beginning, but the more he gets hit, the happier his feet get. But I think he forgets about it going into the next game.
Jurko, the OL is paid to protect the QB, right? Just checking. Also, why do so many organizations take a chance on Martz when none of those said organization have a QB like Warner or WR's like Holt, Bruce and others? Don't they know that Martz will get the QBs destroyed? Yet this keeps happening. Let's recycle garbage people!
Jurko (1:18 PM)
Tight ends, especially Davis, and Kahlil Bell, were responsible for 3 of the 6 sacks. That's what Tice is talking about when he said it's more than just his guys. They keep putting too complicated a system with blocking schemes, and that's why they make mistakes. You're only as smart as your dumbest player.
William (Norfolk Va)
Is jay going to survive this season?
Jurko (1:18 PM)
I'm betting no.
DaBrickashaw (6244 Wincternson )
Will the packers repeat or is there D to much of a question?
Jurko (1:19 PM)
It's a question mark now, but I have them repeating.
Joe (Oak Park)
Jerry's plan of not drafting WRs high in the draft is killing this team. Nobody on that WR corps can get off the line before Cutler gets killed. And why do they keep making Hester a big part of the pass game?
Jurko (1:19 PM)
They can't create separation. That's their biggest problem, and they can't get open.
I want to know your thoughts on the recent Jerry Angelo quotes. This is what he said... "We did everything you could possibly do to that [offensive line] position," Angelo told the Bears' website. "Nobody did more than the Chicago Bears."
Jurko (1:20 PM)
Tell him that's not factual. The Patriots drafted Solder and signed Brian Waters. Besides bringing Logan Mankins and Todd Lyght back. The Colts used their first two draft picks for o-linemen. So it's simply not a factual statement.
Why did Martz abandon the run in the second game this season all ready? Did he not learn anything from last year, how can Lovie sit back and watch that happen. The only way we are going to win is ball control and our defense.
Jurko (1:21 PM)
The dynamics of a game. You get caught up in the dynamics of a game. He admitted he mentally went to a two-minute philosophy earlier than he shoudl have.
Brian (Lakeland, Fl.)
Who cares what this FAT ex Packer says or thinks.
Jurko (1:23 PM)
Hey I'm losing weight, champ. I weighed 281 today. I'm also an ex-Brown, Jaguar, and Dolphin. I've been around, man. I've seen things. My football knowledge is second to no one. Mike Holmgren considers me a friend. So how do you like those apples. And I'm talking to Coach Ditka later today.
Ken (Tinley Park)
I give Cutler a lot of credit this year for now throwing anyone "under the bus". It seems he's a different person this year, coming into camp in the best shape of his life and a little more personable..what do you think??
Jurko (1:24 PM)
I think he should get back with Cavallari. She softened him in the past, made him personable.
Wons (Appleton WI)
I live up near Green Bay and you know how these Packer fans are about their trash talking to Bears fans. Give me some sort of good news or positive reinforcement I should have about this game.
Jurko (1:24 PM)
It's being played in Chicago. There's your positive news.
Are we over reacting to the loss? We were down by 3 in the 3rd and with possession. Only one sack through 3 qrtrs...A couple of different calls and the story could have been different. Bears bounced back after 10 sacks to Giants and 33-6 loss to New England last year...
Jurko (1:26 PM)
You overreact both ways. Too much love for a win and too much hate for a loss. Their offensive line is on the brink of disaster. One more injury and the floodgates will open.
Jurko, what record did you have for the Bears before the season? Will there be any chance if the Bears don't make the playoffs that Angelo is gone and we can get an actual WR (Blackmon or Floyd) on this Bears team for Cutler to throw to?
Jurko (1:28 PM)
7-9 before season started. Based on no improvement at WR and OL. I hope Angelo is gone, but the Bears have a philosophy that they want to maintain continuity. And they think the great organizations do that. Just without all those annoying Super Bowls.
How many goofs like Brian (Lakeland FL) do you have to deal with on these chats?
Jurko (1:29 PM)
Fellas it's an open forum. You can write what you want, but ultimately we'll edit or delete the bad stuff.
Are the Packers going to rush 7/8 guys the way New Orleans did??
Jurko (1:29 PM)
It will be a mix. The Bears have had problems with the corner blitz from the slot position. I see the Packers doing a lot of that.
was the awful offensive line play due more to the talent, or lack of talent, or missed calls by jay and garza?
Jurko (1:30 PM)
I think RB and tight end share blame with the OL. Only one of 7 has to break down and they all look bad. They're dependent upon each other.
Jurko (1:31 PM)
I hope the Bears win, but I don't have them in the confidence pool. Thanks for all the great questions again. Listen to "The Carmen, Jurko & Harry Show" on ESPN 1000 and I'll see you next week. Go Bears.
