Jurko (1:03 PM)
The Bears are 4-3 at the break with a big chance coming up againsty Philly to own the tiebreaker against three teams. Let's get started
Will the Bears get T.O.? I can't see why they wouldn't, the potential reward of getting the playmaker they need far outweighs the risk. If he doesn't work out, cut him.
Jurko (1:04 PM)
No. He won't be able to pass the phyiscal. He is not physically able to play right now. If it makes people feel better just to bring him in for a workout but I would not sign him. He's not healthy.
Why wouldn't we cut Brandon Meriweather before Chris harris.
Jurko (1:05 PM)
Harris has a big mouth and his mouth got him cut as much as his play did.
What is a fair contract for Forte? I was thinking 5 years 40-45 million with 21 guaranteed would be fair and should get this done.
Jurko (1:05 PM)
Sounds about right now. It would have been cheaper in the preseason. I don't like signing running backs to five-year deal though.
Are the Bears a playoff team based on where we are at right now? I see only a couple of games that I would say are difficult or the Bears will not be favored.
Jurko (1:06 PM)
I think they make the playoffs. The only way they don't is big injuries.
After some solid performances from the O line, when Carimi is ready to play, how are the Bears going to reinsert him into the lineup ?
Jurko (1:07 PM)
He will play tackle and Louis will slip to RG and let's go play.
Samuel T (Lincoln Park)
Based on your experience at DT in the NFL what is your opinion of our brief look at Stephen Paea?
Jurko (1:08 PM)
It's too early to tell. Uusually it takes a couple of years to really fit in there. And the most important trait that needs to be developed is to be able to feel what is happening with the types of blocks you are getting. He's doing OK but you can have 10 good plays and those are nullified by one bad play.
Jurko (1:09 PM)
The re-thinking has already been done for the Bears a lot earlier than last year. They are probably in better shape philosophy-wise on offense than they ever were last year.
I can think of 3 good offensive lineman that are still free agents: Shaun O'hara, Leonard Davis, and Flozell Adams. Why haven't the Bears considered signing any of them? They would be an upgrade to what they have now.
Jurko (1:10 PM)
Adams is old, Davis is old and O'Hara is old. You'd rather develop young guys. You'd rather have those three in as insurance backing them up.
Cam (Lakeview, Chicago)
Will we ever stabilize the safety position? Whats the scoop with the two safties from Illinois state we brought in for workouts?
Jurko (1:11 PM)
They've had enough chances to stabilize it. I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet. I guess it will take another three years.
Will Corey Wootton be a factor against the Eagles or is he still a few weeks away? Bears really could use a 3rd DE who can pass rush.
Jurko (1:12 PM)
No, Wootton busted a hand. He is still a few weeks away. This Wootton thing I was tired of last year and tired of this year. He's got to stay healthy to be talked about.
We have been seen Roy Williams make a few plays recently. How do you feel about his role and his play thus far? Do you think his role will grow?
Jurko (1:13 PM)
I think they wanted him to have a major role and he has been a disappointment. I have no confidence in him at all. Every time he touches the ball I'm afraid.
Is Harris really that bad? Or do the Bears have great confidence in the rest of the Safeties? Either way I think this was a bad move mid-season
Jurko (1:14 PM)
I don't believe Harris is bad. I just think his big mouth cost him.
Mike Foster (Lindenhurst, IL)
Good Kid, Thanks for the chats. Love listening to you on the drive home. What do you think of the Bears releasing Harris? Do you trust the backend of this Defense? If you were the Bears GM, would you take a chance on TO?
Jurko (1:16 PM)
As long as they stay as deep as the defense and don't get beato ver the top and are sure tacklers that's all I expect out of the safeties. They can be trusted. I don't trust the depth on this team. If a couple of key guys got hurt this team would be done. But maybe that could be said about a lot of teams.
Darius Byrd (Virginia)
The Bears have a tough schedule the next coming weeks vs the Eagles, Lions, and Chargers...I think we get huge wins over all three. What do you think?
Jurko (1:17 PM)
Let's not put the cart in front of the horse. Philly is going to be tough enough on Monday night. But if the Bears can get to 7-3 you start feeling a whole lot better about the playoffs.
Ryan (Evergreen Park)
What is your diagnosis on why Johnny Knox isn't getting the production he did in the past?
Jurko (1:18 PM)
He's lacking confidence and he's not being targeted.
Any suggestions on what the coaching staff can do to get Meriweather away from costing the Bears D anymore 15 yd penalties..?
Jurko (1:18 PM)
Not play him would be one. This guy tackles with his head. It's going to take a lot for him to figure it out.
E (The World)
How awful is Kellen Davis? Let's talk about it.
Jurko (1:19 PM)
He's not as productive as we thought he would be. He doesn't like to block. But it's hard to have any expectations in this offense because the TE doesn't produce in a Martz system. That's why Olsen is the happiest guy in the world.
I find it hard to believe that Bennett is the only receiver on the roster capable of running a precise route and getting open. Is it a coaching issue as much as a talent one?
Jurko (1:20 PM)
I think it's an intelligence issue. Football intelligence: the ability to read, comprehend the playobook in a limited amount of time before a play. It's not as easy as it sounds and it really needs to be worked on until it becomes second nature.
What about bringing back Benard Berrian?
Jurko (1:21 PM)
Absolutely not. Berrian never lived up to the deal he signed with the Vikings and will not be motivated to resurrect his career because he's got all the cash.
If bears do not make the playoffs what are the odds of getting rid of Angelo? Jurko do you think Martz will be back next season playoffs or not?
Jurko (1:22 PM)
I think Angelo is not going anywhere. He and Phillips are enamored with each other. And I think the Bears will do well. I'd hate to change the system Cutler has had some success in.
Should Lance Louis replace Webb when Carimi comes back? Louis seems much better at Tackle.
Jurko (1:23 PM)
No, I think he will replace Spencer at RG because Spencer has a broken right hand.
Ken (Tinley Park)
I'm trying to remember past Bears games when they faced Vick...have they done a good job containing him in the past or will this be another national tv embarrassment?
Jurko (1:24 PM)
The Bears have done a great job against Vick and they always contain him. Urlachers locks him down. They force him to stay in the pocket and make mistakes.
jurko, what do you think about changing our offensive system by doubling the number of screen passes...teams love to blitz and forte in space is unstoppable
Jurko (1:24 PM)
We run screen passes and when you run too many people start to realize that's what you are going to run and they sit on them. It's still part of the offense and always will be.
Tommy (the big easy)
I know its hard for a non qb to win MVP but if it happens I hope its Forte he basically is 60-70% of the offense and hes handled himself perfectly with the contract situation your thoughts?
Jurko (1:26 PM)
I think the QBs this year are awesome. Rodgers is the No. 1 candidate to be the MVP. It would be nice if Forte did it but the Packers would have to collapse.
Jurko, with the new CBA the Bears have to spend all of the cash. They're pretty well below the salary cap, how do you see them getting to the required amount?
Jurko (1:27 PM)
They don't have to spend anything. There's no basement. I don't think they will spend any of it. If anything they will use that money to sign Forte to a contract.
Ken (Tinley Park)
If Forte continues to throw up 100 yard games, will the Bears still wait till the end of the season to work out a deal? I fear they are using him "for the now/this season" and if it works, then great. "Thanks for the Superbowl, have fun in FA"
Jurko (1:28 PM)
No, I think they will get it done before the end of the season but he's got no place to go. I think ultimately a deal gets done.
Jurko (1:28 PM)
That's it for me. We're getting serious about "Ditkaween" over here in Oak Brook. Have a good bye week.
