Jurko (1:03 PM)
Terrible loss last week, but not an unexpected loss to the Packers. Right now I've got no faith in this team.
does Carimi have any trade value?
Jurko (1:04 PM)
To me, none. Injured knee and crappy play.
Jurko, I think it is safe to assume if the bears lose either of these next to games they will be out of the playoffs and Lovie will be out of chicago next year. Has there been any talk in the back room of who would be the best fit for Chicago next year at the head coach position?
Jurko (1:05 PM)
Chip Kelly is gaining a lot of buzz, but they don't have the kind of personnel (yet) to run Kelly's system. The Bears usually hire coordinators from successful teams and I would assume the same this time.
Who would be your choice to replace Lovie? What do you think of Gruden?
Jurko (1:06 PM)
Which one, Jon or Jay? I think Jon will demand $8-9M per year. I think Jay would demand about $2.5M per year. Jay's the OC in Cincinnati.
Dave (Antioch, IL)
How about Bear's going after Sean Payton?
Jurko (1:06 PM)
Sean Payton will either coach in New Orleans or Dallas, not chicago.
Would Bates be considered for offensive coordinator? Tice has got to go!
Jurko (1:07 PM)
I'd say no. He'll either stay as the QB coach or be fired like everybody else.
What are the odds Brian Urlacher will be back next year?
Jurko (1:07 PM)
I'd say 3-1 right now of him coming back.
With not a whole lot of cap space, Cutler needing a new deal soon, and Peppers cap hit being $16 million, should Emery try and get whatever he can for Peppers?
Jurko (1:09 PM)
Yeah, if Peppers is tradeable. I'm not sure that he is. You're getting back Urlacher's money if he's not back. You'll get back Idonije's money because I don't think he'll be back. So they'll have some flexibility without moving Peppers.
Matt (Lincoln Park)
Can the Bears win a Super Bowl with Jay Cutler?
Jurko (1:10 PM)
Cutler is not the problem here. One has to identify player's individual strengths and weaknesses. Then you process the information and put the guys who can play on one side, and you get rid of the guys who can't play. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a 40% turnover in personnel next year.
As a former player turned NFL reporter and analyst, where do you stand on the issue of booing and Urlacher's comments regarding the same?I understand that booing is not necessarily productive, nor does it facilitate better performances from the players, but I believe that fans have every right to boo a team that was in the process of losing their 6th straight game to the Packers and their 5th game in their last 6 appearances. The Chicago Bears are a product. When the product underperforms regularly and the price of admission for a 400-level ticket approaches $200 (and often more than $200 for a Packers game), I believe that the fans have every right to boo. What are your thoughts?
Jurko (1:12 PM)
We were once down 17-3 to the St. Louis Rams in Lambeau. They boos rained upon us as we entered the tunnel and we deserved every single boo. We came out in the second half with a better effort but still lost the game. When you pay $110 to sit in the stands, you choose to cheer for the good stuff and boo for the bad stuff. Lesson to be learned: Don't be bad.
Before we talk about replacements should we not ask, Jurko point blank is Lovie the Bears coach in 2013?
Jurko (1:13 PM)
If he wins the final two games and a playoff game, I believe Lovie Smith is the coach next year. If they don't make the playoffs then he's done, even at 10-6.
Do you think Cutler can be an elite QB? Given he is surrounded by a competent OC and an O-Line.
Jurko (1:14 PM)
I think he's an elite QB now, but it's tougher to succeed in games and look elite with what he has around him now. The old you can't make chicken salad... philosophy.
Rebecca Rom-Jin (Chicago)
Jurko, what position do you think the Bears will go after first in the draft?
Jurko (1:15 PM)
O-Line, D-line or LB.
Even if we do get into the playoffs, do we think we retain Tice as O-coordinator? Any situation you see where we demote him back to O-line coach?
Jurko (1:16 PM)
Demoted out of town, maybe. Not to O-line coach.
Should the bears start re-building now, bring in a new coach, a new QB and draft OL and def. LBs
Jurko (1:17 PM)
Yes, it will be rebuilding time in the offseason. There will be fresh O-linemen and free agents, but no change at QB.
Obviously running up the middle hasn't been a strength all year long, don't you think they should try the edges more..? Evan Rodriquez was making sum nice blocks last game..
Jurko (1:18 PM)
I think you have to have a mizx in the running game. A healthy run offense runs to both sides, uses zone blocking schemes, zone trapping and counter philosophies.
will Da Bears make the playoffs?
Jurko (1:19 PM)
I don't have the Bears making the playoffs. Sorry.
Anyone on that offensive line you would keep next year?
Jurko (1:20 PM)
Lance Louis, James Brown because he's young, and Jonathan Scott.
Who do you think starts along the O-line Sunday? I would love to see them stick with Edwin Williams longer. He seemed to win some matchups, and playing next to J-Webb seems to be partially responsible for some errors
Jurko (1:21 PM)
The left side of the line was horrid in handling stunts last week. That goes with the inexperience of working with each other. Hopefully they'll be better this week, but Williams is just a body.
Gaaawwwwd...This Hester at WR thing has got to stop.. Painful to watch..Your opinion?
Jurko (1:22 PM)
Boys, that was my opinion four years ago when the city was crying about how much they love Devin Hester and can't live without him. For those of you, you got what you deserved this season.
Will the Bears remain competitive if they rebuild in the offseason?
Jurko (1:22 PM)
They can. This is the NFL. Key free agent moves and young kids stepping in and playing will help them stay competitive.
BRYAN (Reno) [via mobile]
Wat do you think about Forte's effort this year?
Jurko (1:24 PM)
Running backs, unless you're Adrian Peterson, Jim Brown or Barry Sanders, are a dime a dozen in this league. A running back's ability to gain yards is SO dependent upon having a good O-line, that it makes the position almost useless. The three positions on the field I would never pay are K, P and RB.
Is there FA Chicago should pursue and sign without question? Is it Long?
Jurko (1:25 PM)
Brandon Albert, an OT in KC. I don't know if he's a free agent, but becuase he got hurt and his backup filled in admirably, he could be expendable and had by trade. Jake Long. Suffered a triceps injury and the Dolphins may be willing to say goodbye.
Danny (Ft. Lauderdale)
Which coach do you believe needs to go come this off season.
Jurko (1:26 PM)
Mike Tice and Darryl Drake.
It has been talked about that George McCaskey hates losing to the Packers and takes the rivalry incredibly serious. Since he is not as oblivous as his older brother any chance he pulls the trigger on Lovie?
Jurko (1:27 PM)
We'll see. The results in these next two games will dictate Lovie's future, not the losses to the Packers.
If Lovie is gone, how likely are the Bears to go cheap and make Dave Toub the next headcoach
Jurko (1:28 PM)
It wouldn't shock me. It would not shock me. It actually would make a lot of sense to do that if you're inside the Bears' organization. A legacy of frugality.
Who has the final call on Lovie? Is it Emery or does will he get overidden by the McCaskey's? Also, is it bad for me as a die hard Bears fan to actually root for them to lose so that there are some major changes in the off season? My thought process is that even if they do sneak into the playoffs, they will be one and done and Lovie will get the benefit of the doubt.
Jurko (1:29 PM)
It's Emery's call, but the McCaskeys can give Lovie a stay of execution. You're rooting for this team to get to the Super Bowl, and the best way to that goal might be to lose two games and clean house.
Spencer (Las Vegas)
Is there a chance Gabe Carimi can be saved? hate to lose another 1st round pick to bust status
Jurko (1:30 PM)
At a religious revival, maybe, but not as an offensive lineman in this league.
Jurko (1:30 PM)
Hey boys, I don't feel good about the Bears going to AZ. The Cardinals showed a sign of life last week and, correct me if I'm wrong, nothing has changed with the Bears. See you next week.
