Nick Friedell (2:34 PM)
What's going on everybody? Let's get this chat rolling from San Francisco ...
Avery (Lake elmo mn)
Your thoughts on the Carmelo situation?
Nick Friedell (2:37 PM)
This is definitely the topic that interests Bulls fans the most. I think the Bulls are going to try and make a push for Carmelo in the summer. I think the front office has known for a while that it needs a second scorer alongside Derrick Rose. Having said that, I still don't think Carmelo is going to leave NYC. We'll see what happens.

Does Boozer's recent grumblings all but guarantee the Bulls amnestying him this summer?
Nick Friedell (2:38 PM)
It certainly doesn't help. I think Carlos sees the writing on the wall. I'd be surprised if he were still in Chicago next season.
What kind of deal would it take to let Taj go via trade?
Nick Friedell (2:40 PM)
The Bulls don't want to let Taj go -- the only way he would be moved is if it meant bringing in another superstar -- like Carmelo.
David (Elkhart, Indiana)
With the deficiencies of the Bulls when it comes to scoring and the impact that injuries have had on the season wouldn't it be in their best interest for them to get what they can for Hinrich. It seems that there are a couple of teams such as Golden State that could use depth at the position and in a season where there is not really much hope for a Championship it wouldn't be the worst thing to fall back in the standings slightly if the end result is still a 1st or 2nd round exit. It would seem the prudent thing to do to get as much value as possible to set up best for the future. Is this something that is still being considered?
Nick Friedell (2:43 PM)
The Bulls don't want to just give a guy away -- they want picks like everyone else in the league. If they get the right offer for either Hinrich or Dunleavy I still think both will be gone. But they aren't just going to unload them to unload them.
Any chance the bulls try to package their plethora of draft picks and try to move up and find their game changer in the '14 draft?
Nick Friedell (2:49 PM)
I think they'll try -- but I don't think it would be for a draft pick. I think they'll try and package some of their assets together to try and get a proven scorer.

Who would you rather have melo and a huge contract at 31 or stephenson with a less expensive contract at 24
Nick Friedell (2:52 PM)
Melo. Proven scorer. He can get 30 on any given night. Stephenson is good and is getting better but Melo is a proven commodity.
If you were running the Bulls, what players would you be interested in signing during the offseason to help them get back into championship form?
Nick Friedell (2:56 PM)
Everybody wants to find the answer to this question. The reality is this: The Carmelo talk is nice -- and I do think he would help the Bulls -- but if Derrick Rose can't stay healthy nothing else matters. The Bulls can bring in any player they want -- but if Rose can't stay healthy it's all a moot point.
Nick Friedell (2:57 PM)
Does anyone have a non-Melo related question?
Hey Nick. Curious your thoughts on the D Rose injury situation. There is always the fear that a proven scorer like a MELO would not want to come to CHI because D Rose might be proving to be "injury prone" - seems like keeping a DJ Augustine might be more valuable than the bulls realize...thoughts on this?
Nick Friedell (3:00 PM)
I believe that Thibs will always find a way to make a point guard successful. The only point guard that hasn't found success in his system is Marquis Teague and he may not be in the league next year.
What are you thoughts about Jimmy Butler shooting the ball so poorly? What are they doing about it? (His shot seems really flat) And is this a concern about him being able to continue to develop offensively, despite his excellent defense?
Nick Friedell (3:03 PM)
Jimmy works on his shot all the time. I think the biggest problem for him right now is that his struggles are in his head. He said the key for his game is being able to get to the rim and the free throw line -- but he has got to find a way to stop putting so much pressure on himself offensively.
Bryan (Springdale, AR)
What are your thoughts about how boring the Bulls are to watch?
Nick Friedell (3:06 PM)
The Bulls have to be boring in order to win. They don't have enough offensive firepower to compete on most nights. Their defense has to keep them in it.
What do you think are the Bulls chances of advancing to the second round if they make the playoffs? Will the front office view this as a positive or as a negative.
Nick Friedell (3:07 PM)
If the Bulls stay healthy and don't make anymore moves I think they'll get to the second round again this year. As long as they don't have to play Miami or Indiana first. This Bulls team has a lot of pride and they have Thibs.
What's the locker room like post-Deng trade and Boozer rant? Are the guys still close and having fun with each other? Or has the air been taken out of the place?
Nick Friedell (3:13 PM)
They're still close. When you have guys like Noah and Gibson in the fold -- they will never allow the locker room to be bad. They'll monitor what's going on and keep everyone in line.
Nick Friedell (3:16 PM)
All right everybody got to go catch my flight to LA. If you're at a game this week come over and say hello. I'll talk to you guys later.
