Nick Friedell (2:42 PM)
What's going on everybody? Let's get this chat rolling ...
What do you think of the Pacers trade for evan turner? Does that make them the favorites over Miami?
Nick Friedell (2:43 PM)
I think it was a solid move -- but I'll still take the Heat. They have LeBron.
Joe (Wicker Park) [via mobile]
Hey Nick, why is Derrick Rose so hesitant to recruit superstar free agents? Does he believe he's above that or is his ego getting in the way in saying the Bulls are my team. Seems like he has the Kobe syndrome. Are best hope is Noah becoming the face of the Bulls and hoping superstars buy into his and coach Thibs as pieces of a championship puzzle.
Nick Friedell (2:46 PM)
Rose is always going to be the face of the Bulls. He just doesn't feel comfortable asking a guy to play with him -- although, you always have to remember that Rose did call Kirk Hinrich and asked him to come back to the Bulls a couple summers ago. He may change over time -- but Noah will always be the lead recruiter for any big time player that wants to come to Chicago.
Candy (Slippery Rock)
Hello Nick, who is more likely on the Bulls next year: Mirotic or Boozer?
Nick Friedell (2:48 PM)
Good question. I'd actually lean towards Boozer. I just don't get the sense the Bulls are all that confident that Mirotic will come over this summer. If they do make a push for Melo, he definitely won't come over this summer.
What cheerleaders are second to the Lady Cats? (assuming the Lady Cats are first in ranking)
Nick Friedell (2:50 PM)
Aside from the LadyCats -- I've always been a fan of the squad in Phoenix, Brenda.
Do you think Melo and Rose could work together?
Nick Friedell (2:51 PM)
Absolutely. Thibs would find a way.
mark (mount prospect)
Cuse at Duke tomorrow, you nervous about Cuse going into Cameron?
Nick Friedell (2:52 PM)
No way. I think it's going to be a great game. The best new rivalry in basketball. Can't wait to get there.
Nick -Any chance that Deng realizes he should've taken the 3 year $30 million deal from the Bulls and rejoins us next year?
Nick Friedell (2:54 PM)
Seriously, seriously doubt it. Deng is too proud to take what he and his reps considered an offer below market value. I think his time in Chicago is done.
What team do you think presents the biggest issues for the Bulls in a playoff series: Toronto, Washington, or Brooklyn
Nick Friedell (2:55 PM)
The Wizards. For whatever reason, the Bulls don't usually play well in D.C. I think Wall would give them some problems. Having said that, I'd still take the Bulls in that series.
Moved to LA a few months ago. Should I just be a Lakers fan since I know they will be great again soon, or are the Bulls finally going to be able to strike gold in free agency? Frustrated...
Nick Friedell (2:58 PM)
Nik, I actually think the Bulls have a brighter future than the Lakers right now. Kobe is on the tail end of his career and can't stay on the floor. They have cap space but I don't think anyone is dying to play there right now. I don't think the Bulls are going to hit gold in free agency this summer but they still have a brighter future. Don't be frustrated, though. It's 70 degrees and sunny almost every day in LA. You'll be all right.
Nick NYC [via mobile]
What's plan B if bulls can't sign melo?
Nick Friedell (2:58 PM)
Try to get Mirotic to come over.
Are the bulls gonna sign Augustin? Or let him go like they did Nate?
Nick Friedell (2:59 PM)
I think they'll try to sign Augustin, but I think he'll be out of their price range.
Sam (River North)
More likely to happen: Silvy having a second kid or Rose MVP next year?
Nick Friedell (3:00 PM)
Definitely Silvy with baby #2. It's a heavy favorite in Vegas.
Hey Nick, I don't understand. We know we are not going to contend for a championship this year, so why didn't we make any trades to free up more cap room?
Nick Friedell (3:01 PM)
Because they didn't feel like they were getting anything of value in return.
Chris (Cleveland) [via mobile]
Do you think Danny Granger would be a good fit for the Bulls if he gets released from Philly?
Nick Friedell (3:02 PM)
I actually think he would be a good fit for the Bulls next year if he can prove he can stay healthy and would sign a cheaper deal.
Zoe(Chicago) [via mobile]
What do other teams think of mirotic and do the bulls see him as a untouchable
Nick Friedell (3:04 PM)
Players that have played against him like his game. They think he can play in the league. Fran Fraschilla was on Waddle and Silvy last week and said he thought Mirotic could end up being a fringe All-Star. As for the second question, no, he is not considered an untouchable.
Sky (Chicago) [via mobile]
What do you think Taj Gibsons ceiling will be? Or is his play now probably what it will be?
Nick Friedell (3:08 PM)
If Taj starts next season and improves his numbers I think there is a chance he could make an All-Defense team and maybe even an All-Star game as a reserve. All depends on how much Thibs asks him to do with Rose back on the floor.
any chance bulls make a run like the 2004 pistons giving both have so many things in common?
Nick Friedell (3:12 PM)
Sal, I don't think they have enough scoring -- but I'll tell you this -- they definitely believe they can. They truly believe they can shock some people in the playoffs.
Johnny Blaze (Morgan Park)
To counter your argument that Free Agents might be scared of coming to the bulls because of Rose's health questions, which are legitimate. Does the fact that the Bulls are going to be a 3 seed without Rose or Deng affect the Free Agent's thinking? The Knicks are terrible with Melo right now. Don't you think he looks at the Bulls, with no superstars, winning one effort alone, and thinks he could make them legit? With that, anything Rose brings to the table would be icing. Also, do you think Noah is becoming more desireable to play with by the game. Any scorer should love to play with him. He takes over games without needing any shots. Who else can do that?
Nick Friedell (3:16 PM)
Here's the problem -- if Rose gets hurt again, does anyone believe the Bulls can win with just Melo and Noah? No. Not to mention the fact if Melo does come to Chicago that means Taj, Dunleavy and maybe even Butler would have to be gone.
Why would anyone want Melo on the Bulls? He can't even play defense!
Nick Friedell (3:17 PM)
Thibs could make him a better defender. But the real key is that he can score 30 points whenever he wants. The Bulls don't have anybody on their team like that.
Jay (Chicago) [via mobile]
I honestly feel we don't need melo if you subtract boozer add a healthy d rose and mirotic and add a couple more pieces in free agency and the draft we'll be right back as a title contender even with just rose we was right there so with a healthy d rose plus more we should be even better than before not to mention the improvement of our young players butler and snell whats your thoughts?
Nick Friedell (3:23 PM)
That team still isn't good enough. The Bulls need another star, a star that can score 25-30 a game. Mirotic could be good -- but he isn't that guy.
Nick Friedell (3:26 PM)
I'm out of here, guys. Thanks for the questions. I'll talk to you next week from Dallas.
