What do you feel is the biggest holes to fill this season?

The biggest holes would be the inexperience in our defensive line, interior, DT. And the depth that both our defensive line and offensive line.

We have talented players there, but we have a lack of experienced depth.

What is your feeling about the rules dealing with the relationships between agents and college players

I feel like it's been a problem for many years. I hate that some young people are being questioned, but it will probably help us all come up with a viable answer to have some more control. There are some great agents out there, we have 52 kids in the NFL. But there are some agents out there that try to cut corners. We have to educate our players, coaches, but I also feel that the NFL can work to make better regulations in the future. We spend the better part of 12 days educating our parents and players on the agent process.

Coach Brown I have looked up to you for a very long time. What tradition at Texas are you most proud of?

I think I'm probably most proud of the fact that at the beginning of the game and end of the game, our fanbase and the team sings the Eyes of Texas. It's a real connection with our fans, players and coaches that most teams don't have. That song is sung at the end win or lose, so it makes you want to win it.

Coach Brown, if it were up to you, what would be the name of the new Big XII (Ten)?

It's really confusing Todd, because the Big Ten has 12 and the Big XII has 10 and the Pac-10 has 12. We need to wait and see where this goes over the next few years, because there may be some more additions. Then we can come up with a new name.

What are you feelings on the opinions that they Big 12 will face the "inevitable" and cease to exist as conference expansion looms over the horizon by powers such as the Big Ten, Pac 10, etc...

I trust our boss. Our boss is Bill Powers and our AD. They have assured me that they think the conference is on stable grounds. The conference is committed to a lot of help in the future. We're not sure if we're talking about 10 years, 15 years, but at some point I can see us having some super conferences, because it's been talked about for some time now.

Since I played a disgruntled parent on the first show of Friday Night Lights, coach Tucker has done a tremendous job of leading both East and West Dillon High. I'll stay just a fan. I love the show.

What do you feel Garret Gilbert has done to take an active leadership role with the team?

I was concerned leaving the national championship game that he might take a step back. But in retrospect, I feel like it was a positive. He's stepped up and it sounds like he's done the same over the summer. I expect him to continue a great line of QBs at Texas.

What is your favorite thing about being a college football coach?

Favorite thing would be the positive effect as a role model you can have on people, not just on your players, but on young people. It's a real gift when you can make someone smile by taking a picture with them or signing your name.

Are you nervous about the status of your program after seeing all the investagations occuring through prominent campuses across the country?

When you're dealing with as many people and young people as we do on a daily basis, you're always anxious that you did a good job about reaching out to people and doing things in a first class manner. After getting ahead of the problems and hoping you did your best to do a good job, you have new players coming in. We know we're vulnerable to it just like everyone else.

Do you see Colt McCoy becoming a starting quarterback during his first 5 seasons in the NFL?

Colt is the winningest QB in college football history and the most accurate, completing about 72% in his four years. I think he'll start and have a tremendous career. He knows how to win. He won in high school and he'll do the same in the NFL.

I came to ESPN today to really kick off the start of college football season for Texas fans. We have a couple of weeks of vacation in the summer, then we have our coaches retreat. I've been asked in the past to come up to take a day with ESPN and not had the chance to do it. But today we did and hopeuflly we had a chance to get some publicity for Texas and get our fans excited for the season.
