Bryan Broaddus (11:33 AM)
Good Morning from Valley Ranch...taking a little break from the Giants to talk some Cowboys so lets get started.
Compare Wade Phillips style to Jason Garrets for us
Bryan Broaddus (11:35 AM)
Garrett's attention to detail is quite impressive. I have spoken with several members of the front office and they have nothing but praise for Garrett in how prepared he is for this job. We will see in due time.
Bryan I really enjoy your scouting reports, thanks for the insight! You said about a week ago during one of these chats that you thought Jason Garrett was like Wade in the fact that he was very lax and did not hold players accountable. Have you observed anything since Garrett has taken over that has changed you mind?
Bryan Broaddus (11:37 AM)
The full pad practice was the first that I had seen since training camp....Garrett said that it will be something that we will see ever week. At least in my book he is off on the right foot.
Do you think Sean Lee will still become a good player?
Bryan Broaddus (11:38 AM)
I sure hope so...if not...I was way off on Lee's ability to help this football team.
What do you think about Victor Butler? he looks to have some promise
Hi Bryan, Since you are friends with Gruden, I wonder if you've thought about why no coach has ever been able to win the Super Bowl with two different teams and what that would mean for the Cowboys?
Bryan Broaddus (11:41 AM)
Jon is an outstanding football coach...I promise that he will be a better coach after sitting out these last couple of season...he has always had a plan...will be interesting if he gets a shot here..
Bruce (El Paso)
How many quality offensive lineman do the Cowboys have? Can they restock or rebuild the line in one offseason?
Bryan Broaddus (11:43 AM)
Like Young and Costa as back ups right now...other than that...you could keep Free, try to resign Kosier and potentially replace the rest. Its not good.
Garrett can't even coach half the team. How can he coach the whole team?
Bryan Broaddus (11:44 AM)
Could he do any worse?
What lineup changes should we expect this Sunday?
Bryan Broaddus (11:45 AM)
Working on that right now...me...I replace the free safety and the right guard right now...Garrett might start Dez in Roy's spot as well.
What do you think about Sam Young?
Bryan Broaddus (11:45 AM)
Big fan of Young...think he needs to play one or two series a game to get a feel for him...he had a nice camp this summer...it might not be pretty at first but you have to find out.
Do you see Josh Brent playing defensive end next year?
Bryan Broaddus (11:46 AM)
Josh Brent was a bright spot in the Green Bay game at nose...like his personality and his strength. Looks like they hit on one there.
Mike Jenkins (Dallas)
Do you think I got the message this week or am I a lost cause?
Bryan Broaddus (11:48 AM)
Jenkins is not a lost cause. I learned from my old boss in Green Bay, Ron Wolf, if you have seen a player do it once, they can do it again. Jenkins technique is poor now but he is not a lost cause.
Hi Bryan, I've been impressed with Jason Garrett so far. Do you think any of this actually carries over to the field?
Bryan Broaddus (11:49 AM)
He has 8 weeks to prove he can handle this job, if I am him, I go down swinging...we will see.
Do you think Church can be a starting strong safety next year?
Bryan Broaddus (11:51 AM)
Church needs to play more. Folks in the front office understand that Ball can't do the job...I see Church playing quite a bit these next 8 weeks.
What are your thoughts on the new DC?
Bryan Broaddus (11:52 AM)
Firey guy...gets your attention...wonder if scheme wise he tries to protect this secondary more and play less man coverage and put them in zone.
Forrest (Indianapolis, IN)
Break down the Cowboys/Lions match-up for week 11. I think there are some interesting sub-plots going on (Roy Williams and Jon Kitna being former members of the Lions, etc.) How do you think the teams match-up and who will have the advantage?
Bryan Broaddus (11:53 AM)
Working on the Giants this week...Lions next...have a ton of respect for their Head Coach...good friend...
Do you see any upcoming free agents that you think the cowboys will go after?
Bryan Broaddus (11:54 AM)
I havent see a FA list from the league...once I do..I will dive into for you guys and ESPN Dallas.
Jerry hasn't never invested a 1st round pick in the oline do u c him changing that this upcoming draft? N do u think we goin to rebuilting mode next season ?
Bryan Broaddus (11:55 AM)
OL will be at the top of the shopping list...could see it the first three picks...
How do you not at least bench Mike Jenkins or I would hope deactivate him for his play and attitude last week. As a fan....this guy really pisses me off and represents the current state of the team....first round pick or not.
Bryan Broaddus (11:57 AM)
Jenkins will be in the starting line up this week and most likely the remainder of the season despite what happened last week.
Adam (Charlotte, NC)
If the Cowboys end up picking in the top 5 of the draft next year can you give us a few names of some players you'd like to see them consider drafting?
Bryan Broaddus (11:57 AM)
Let me get through this season then I promise to have this draft wired for you.
LEX (Calgary, AB)
Hello Bryan, I really enjoy your work keep it up. I understand that Jon Gruden can't say anything about the Cowboys Head Coaching job but has your best friend been contacted by Jerry for next year?
Bryan Broaddus (11:58 AM)
Jon is a great friend...keep following us at ESPN Dallas.com and you will be in the loop.
JS Cowboy (NY)
Bryan, thanks for the insights...What is the mood in the locker room and are the players talking about the last few days?
Bryan Broaddus (11:59 AM)
They know they let Wade down and they have been playing like garbage...they want to win in the worse way but they also know they can't play like they have the last five weeks and get that done.
David Lee (DC)
When I watch the Cowboys on defense, the biggest issue I saw was the absolute lack of disguise. The early show/intent of the defense was so clearly obvious, my grandmother could figure them out. Please tell me the new D coordinator will do some pre snap disguising and actually overload a side when blitzing instead of running those attrocious run blitzes on third down.
Bryan Broaddus (12:01 PM)
Great points...but sometimes you are what you are...Coach P will give some different looks but its really up to the players running the scheme to get that done...but again...great points.
pete (san antonio)
what about jeff fisher the next head coach.Who is your top three picks as head coach and who is a better fit. thanks
Bryan Broaddus (12:03 PM)
Always been a Jeff Fisher fan...another name I am running with is Jim Harbaugh from Stanford...watch this guy...arrow is on the way up.
Good morning Bryan; How much importance do you place on the perception the players have of the owner. I am a pro Garrett from a leader point of view. Negative from an offensive philosophy standpoint. But no matter how good a job Jason does coaching and attempting to change the culture do the players not question how serious the approach is when the owner GM is photographed in a Vegas nightclub with a young women the age of his Granddaughter the day after the biggest mid season day in club history and when any other GM would be busy trying to solve the DL issues regarding the injuries in Sunday's game. I may be generation challenged as it comes to today's players but it took the wind out of how positive I felt after watching the new coach hold his press conference Wednesday. Thanks Bryan.
Bryan Broaddus (12:03 PM)
Andrew...I posted your question because I couldn't have said it better....thanks for your thoughts my friend.
After his first practice what are your initial thoughts of Jason Garrett the head coach? He does not seem to be approaching it as an "interim" head coach. Your thoughts?
Bryan Broaddus (12:04 PM)
They let us watch the first 25 minutes of practice but the fact they were in full pads was a great start.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
How will the Dallas Cowboys do against the New York Giants at the Meadowlands on Sunday?
Bryan Broaddus (12:06 PM)
Been studying Big Blue the last couple of days...been impressed on both sides of the ball...funny stat...they are 3-0 against 1st place teams but 2-2 against last place ones...
Alex (Baton Rouge, LA)
Is it possible to cut Leonard Davis next year, or are there cap restrictions?
Bryan Broaddus (12:07 PM)
Alex...went to school at LSU...miss my days in Baton Rouge...I do think they will find away to move Davis along and no there will be no problems.
Chad (San Marcos)
I was surprised Garrett didn't bring in players for tryouts. Maybe it was simply a lack of time this week, do you think we'll see some roster churn now that Wade is gone?
Bryan Broaddus (12:10 PM)
You are right, there just wasn't enough time but thats not to say that the pro department doesn't have some guys in mind...it was something that Wade just din't want to do...maybe Garrett will be different...his brother is the Assistant Pro Director.
What do you were the factors that made the Cowboys choose to attampt to convert Alan Ball to free safety instead of Orlando Scandrick? I'm thinking they just thought Scandrick was a better CB than Ball. Do you think they would revisit the Scandrick to safety move if they acquired another capable CB? Scandrick is a very active player, but being the slot corner, you'd expect him to be.
Bryan Broaddus (12:12 PM)
Rick...that is a great question...I told Orlando not to long ago that I thought he would end his career as a safety...I am sure that is something the Cowboys might revisit one day...but good thought..
Bill In DC (Washington, DC)
With regard to the rpevious 'question' about the GM in Vegas. That actually offers me encouragement that Jerry may finally be stepping back.My question is, when that day comes and Stephen becomes the lead, do you see him hiring a GM or will he attempt to run the team the way his Dad has?
Bryan Broaddus (12:14 PM)
Stephen will make an outstanding GM one day...I really enjoyed my time with him...Parcells use to go to Stephen all the time with issues...he has a very good head on his shoulders...
Bryan Broaddus (12:15 PM)
Hey guys...the Head Coach just called us to practice...thanks so much for your time and all the questions...you make this job fun...have a great day.
