Bryan Broaddus (12:00 PM)
Good morning or afternoon in whatever part of the country you are in...lets get started.
Clovis Mike (CA)
How much of D. Murray's performance was the result of the defense he was playing against. Watching the Cowboys up to Sunday's game gave me no indication that he was capable of such a feat.
Bryan Broaddus (12:03 PM)
I had a chance to review four of the Rams games this season before the Cowboys played them yesterday. Their run defense was awful but I have had a chance to watch half of the game yesterday and the OL did a nice job to this point. Holland has had his moments of good and bad but FB Tony Fiammetta has really done a nice job.
Joe D (CT)
Great game by the Boys yesterday. Abe Elam looked awesome and has had a good year. Should he be someone they bring back next year to prevent adding another need to fill?
Bryan Broaddus (12:05 PM)
Elam has been a very nice get for this team. I have really noticed him more in the red zone and on 3rd downs. Sensabaugh has been playing better too. Overall safety play has been solid and throw Frank Walker in the mix to help in coverage on TEs its been a good scheme.
john vallala (Lewisburg PA)
Watch the game up here in my buddy's tavern. To my surprise there were 8 other guys rooting for the Cowboys and 4 were wearing Cowboy Jerseys. One had a Terry Glenn jersey. There were insane. Yelling all the time.Is Choice gone now that we have two other running backs actually in front of him when Jones returns? Trade him and Buehler?
Bryan Broaddus (12:07 PM)
Great to hear from you my friend, trade dead line is now passed, so that takes care of that. I could see Choice maybe becoming inactive each week depending on how they need to dress other positions. The Buehler spot, I have yet to understand. Owner/GM has a vision for the player but I dont see it.
D-Trane (Jackson, TN)
Dont you think with the way Phillip Tanner was running the ball against the Rams, he could have had the same day Demarco did? and has he taken Choice spot now? he looked good...
Bryan Broaddus (12:08 PM)
I do believe that you will see some weekly combination of Jones, Murray and Tanner. Choice has a shoulder injury but talked with a memeber of the staff this morning and he said it was serious. I thought it was more hurt pride than anything.
Deckiedoo (Flower mound)
How important is it for the cowboys to have a sustainable running game to not only make the Playoffs but get past round 1.
Bryan Broaddus (12:11 PM)
My ole broadcast partner with a question...see you in a couple of weeks at TMS...running the ball is always important. Cowboys were able to do some things in the play action game off those runs. Saw a nice boot to Witten as well for a nice gain. Garrett always talks about balance. Dont see many days running the ball like that ahead to it will help to try and finish some of these close games.
Bad rush defense or not, over 250 yard has only been done 10 times in NFL history.....enough said.
Bryan Broaddus (12:13 PM)
It has been done only 10 times you are right but now the trick is to try and sustain the running game, you do that, this team will win more than it loses the rest of the way.
can the cowboys still win the east?
Bryan Broaddus (12:16 PM)
When I look at this NFC East, think the Cowboys have a great shot to win this division. Have a home win against the Redskins already but need to find a way to go to the Eagles and take this game. The more the Eagles lose the harder it is for them to come back so you want to destroy that will to compete now.
Where did M. Austin go?
Bryan Broaddus (12:17 PM)
From what I have seen in the 1st half of this game on sunday, Austin was there for some plays but Romo went other directions. On the fade to Bryant in the Red Zone that Harris stoned him on, Austin was open to the other side. He ran a great route.
T. Webb (Washington)
Do you see us running the ball on the Eagles the same way we ran on the Rams?
Bryan Broaddus (12:19 PM)
I start working on the Eagles on Tuesday...check out my Scout's Eye on ESPN Dallas.com on Friday.
Shawn Jacob (Carrollton, TX)
Bryan what are your concerns over Dallas' return game?
Bryan Broaddus (12:20 PM)
Thats a great question and I need to sit down and really go thru all of that. You can tell when you talk to Garrett and Joe D that there is some concern there. On the punt return, it didnt look like Bryant had a real chance.
Ricky (New York, NY)
Has Free started to get his act together yet? Also, what's the early report on SMith so far? Should we be expecting a flip-flopping of the tackles next season based on the 2011 performances?
Bryan Broaddus (12:24 PM)
The sack that Free gave up to Hall yesterday was because he didnt get any punch on him and got overextended. Hall was able to get the corner and Romo had no chance. The major problems that Free has is when he gets over extended or too much weight over his outside foot. Smith has been outstanding but was terrible against the Pats but so were others. He has had one bad play against Chris Long that led to a pressure so far.
Mitch (Dallas, TX)
What are the reports on Bruce Carter after 1 week of practice? Better, worse, or on par with expectations considering his situation? Any chance he contributes more than just on special teams tis season?
Bryan Broaddus (12:26 PM)
I would like to think that once Bruce Carter is on the active roster that he would help on special teams and Rob Ryan finds him a spot in the mix. When he was at UNC he never came off the field. He looked like he was moving around well so we will see. I like the player.
Josh (Dallas, TX)
How have Jenkins, Scandrick, and Newman all played so far this season? The numbers appear to be much better than last year but are these guys playing as well as they did in 2009?
Bryan Broaddus (12:28 PM)
I would start Scandrick over Newman if I still worked for the team. Newman wants nothing to do with the physical side of the game where Scandrick does. I like aggressive corners. Jenkins is once again playing with confidence. The plays that he has given up, he has been right there.
How do the Cowboys stop the Eagles running game? McCoy is a handful but Vick is a big reason why they boast the NFL's #1 rushing attack.
Bryan Broaddus (12:29 PM)
I am going to start breaking those Eagles down on Tuesday, but you are right, Vick and McCoy put a great deal of pressure with their skill and ability but the Cowboys defense has been outstanding and Ryan will have a solid plan.
Shawn Jacob (Carrollton, TX)
The Cowboys went 3 for 4 in the red zone yesterday. Can Dallas keep up with that kind of consistency in the red zone throughout the rest of the season?
Bryan Broaddus (12:31 PM)
Some nice design and better execution. Sure the coaches would have liked to have seen Bryant make those catches to help out.
BG philly pa [via mobile]
Can packers be stopped.
Bryan Broaddus (12:33 PM)
I got to study them a little last week agaianst the Rams. Offense is very impressive but defense has some questions. Rodgers can hide a lot of problems if he keeps playing the way he has.
Mike (Aaronsburg, PA)
Is a powerful 330 lb offensive guard like Holland just what this offensive line needed? The interior of the line seemed to have smaller, quick players who are better in space but don't get tremedous push. Holland seemed to help open things up and get more push (granted it was against a hapless Rams defense). What are you thoughts?
Bryan Broaddus (12:35 PM)
I am half way thru the game and Holland has had his good moments and bad as well but he doesnt look like the slow moving player that we all had seen in his time before. Kosier, Witten, Fiammetta have all played well plus Murray ran the ball hard.
Desiree (Fort Worth, TX)
With Montrae Holland and Dan Bailey's performances, Buehler and Looper would appear to be the guys to be chopped next (maybe bring up Harris to help on returns so Dez isn't at risk and activate Bruce Carter). But does Murray and Tanner's efforts put Choice on the chopping block, too? Tanner and Murray looked great against an awful Rams defense and all Choice has done this year is fumble (plus, he's a free agent after this season).
Bryan Broaddus (12:39 PM)
I think that you have this team figured out pretty well. Since camp I havent understood the whole Buehler thing, I do want to see Carter active and you are right about Loper but what if you did Dockery instead? Just a thought since Holland was good and Loper is younger. Murray will continue to get plenty of shots. Choice is in a bad spot.
If I had told you in training camp that Ryan's defense and Dan Bailey would be as good as they seem to be, would you have predicted a playoff team?
Bryan Broaddus (12:40 PM)
I would have said, "yes". I thought the offense would have been good enough. The questions I had were at kicker and defense.
T. Webb (Washington)
Odds that D. Ware gets over 20 sacks? I have him getting 18 this year....
Bryan Broaddus (12:41 PM)
It would be nice for Cowboys fans to see Ware get some of those sacks you speak of with the game on the line in the 4th quarter.
Should the Cowboys be looking to extend one of both safety, or is it still a draft priority?
Bryan Broaddus (12:43 PM)
I think that you still have to look at a safety but I do like what Elam and Sensabaugh have done thru 6 games. Barry Church in my view has a future but I would really like to see this team with a young, athletic free safety. Corner will be a need too.
Don't you think Frank Walker has been a pleasant surprise?
Bryan Broaddus (12:45 PM)
I see Frank Walker in the locker room each day and just shake my head. He has been a great surprise. Give the Pro Guys here alot of credit. His coverage against these TEs has been outstanding. Has been a very nice fit in the scheme.
when is Dez Bryant going to be unleashed? he is a supreme physical talent and i feel he is being underused! whats going on here?
Bryan Broaddus (12:47 PM)
Bryant will be unleashed when he decides to do everything in his power to prepare for a game like the great receivers that have played this game before him for this franchise. There is no doubt of talent but there is much more to this game and hopefully one day he will learn that.
Laurent Robinson entrenched as the #3 receiver? Another nice pickup it looks like. And Romo seems to have confidence in him.
Bryan Broaddus (12:49 PM)
Staff has a vision for Robinson and what he can do. I totally agree with you about Romo's confidence level in him and his ability to make plays. Its a credit to him for coming in here and make plays.
Agreed, pro guys deserve credit for Walker and Robinson. Philly seemed to have same problems vs. Redskins but since they won no one is mentioning it. Agree?
Bryan Broaddus (12:49 PM)
I could not agree more with what you have posted.
Shawn Jacob (Carrollton, TX)
Bryan what are your concerns over Dallas' 3rd down efficiency? Yesterday they only converted 3 out of 8 attempts on 3rd downs.
Bryan Broaddus (12:51 PM)
That surprised me as well yesterday. Thought that the Cowboys would have been better on 3rd down but bright side is the red zone numbers were better. Too many weapons on this offense not to be better on 3rd down.
Bryan Broaddus (12:53 PM)
Well guys, that is all the time I have for this week. Need to get back in the lab. Hope you have a great week. Make sure you are checking out our Cowboys coverage on ESPN Dallas.com
