Bryan Broaddus (12:01 PM)
Good morning or afternoon...thats for coming along for the ride. I am in the lab breaking down this Buffalo game but am only thru half time of the offense with the defense still to go...so with that said...lets get started.
It seems like ever since the Cowboys got Fiametta and inserted Murray as the lead back, the offensive line seems to be progressing as well. It looks like it is all coming together nicely for the line as we head into the 2nd half of the season. Do you see this too?
Bryan Broaddus (12:03 PM)
There is no doubt that with Murray running the ball, the line has done a much better job. Have to give Fiammetta a lot of credit too. Jason Witten really did a nice job yesterday of some down field blocking which has been key as well.
Broaddus, how has Tyron Smith looked so far? Will we see him move to the left side at some point?
Bryan Broaddus (12:05 PM)
At some point in his career, Smith will probably play at left tackle. Every game is a learning experience for him. Free thru a half has done a nice job in this game where Smith has struggled some. Free played his best game last week so the technique issues are starting to be solved.
Tony (EC )
Good morning! Quick question, when do you think we will start seeing more of Bruce Carter? Seems like with the decline of James and Brooking these next 3 weeks could present a great opportunity for him? Thoughts?
Bryan Broaddus (12:07 PM)
Bruce Carter was just okay last week but that comes from not having any camp. He has really had to learn things on the run. I will do the defensive side of the ball after I get done with you guys here.
Bryan M (Frisco)
Have you seen Dez Bryant make strides from the first game until the Bills game? It seems like hes on the verge of being elite whenever it "clicks" for him
Bryan Broaddus (12:09 PM)
Long way from being elite but I have seen things that give me hope. On Robinson first touchdown he ran a nice route against press coverage. The Slant he caught later was against press coverage. Those are the things he is going to have to work on. Its not just able running vertical routes but I do see him getting better.
So what gives? Is Buffalo overhyped or is Dallas starting to...gasp...have a balanced offensive attack? We still let Jackson have 100 yards...but teams usually don't run when down by 30 points either. Is there hope??
Bryan Broaddus (12:11 PM)
I studied four games of Buffalo before this game and I didnt feel like they were a bad team, the Rams are a bad team. When Romo doesnt have to shoulder the whole load, this is a much better offense. I am interested to see how the defense played against the run but I will do that later.
Jeff (Tempe (AZ))
Where did your hair go?
Bryan Broaddus (12:12 PM)
I lost my hair a long time ago wearing a football helmet at LSU.
How would you grade the o-line? Do we need to upgrade the center and 2 guards?
Bryan Broaddus (12:13 PM)
The OL has played well the last two week, but yes, the spots that will need to be adressed like they addressed the ROT spot is center and probably ROG.
Greg Joy (Dallas, TX!)
Broaddus, wanted your thoughts on Holland and FB Tony F...to me it look like they were layin the WOOD to Bills, that was my view fron Easy Chair lol Thoughts?
Bryan Broaddus (12:16 PM)
Not a bad view from the easy chair. I will say this about Holland, he has played much better in this game than previous ones. Fiammetta is not the type that will hammer you but does a great job of staying engaged with his block. The most impressive thing he does is adjust on the move.
Ken (nova scotia)
Do the Boys break open the bank for Anthony Spencer next yr or anyone else for that matter? Elam? Sensi?
Bryan Broaddus (12:17 PM)
If you gave me a choice between paying the safeties or Spencer, I would play the safeties but I would also look into Jenkins as well.
MJ (Los Angeles)
Although we won, we are still giving up a lot of rushing yards. What must be done to correct this?
Bryan Broaddus (12:19 PM)
The last two weeks, the DEs had played poorly and this is no secret, Spears even said it himself. If Coleman, Spears, Hatcher and Lissemore are playing poorly, then they will struggle with run defense. I was not surprised that Buffalo ran the ball with Jackson but Seattle gaining yards makes no sense.
I know felix jones will be back soon and i understand how explosive he can be, but i just dont know how you can justify having any bigger role than tanner had when felix was out. Murray has played out of his mind and gets better with every single carry it seems like. i would find it hard to give felix more than 5 carries a game
Bryan Broaddus (12:21 PM)
Jones still is an explosive player. Murray will be an even better back if Jones gets some touches. Tanner is a nice player but I would still want Jones to get the ball. He has run with toughness when this line wasnt moving anyone. I would still give him a chance.
John (New Jersey)
Bryan - does JG establish the run or attack the skins' secondary? Does Free get help vs. Orakpo?
Bryan Broaddus (12:24 PM)
The struggles for Free really happened in a two game stretch against the 49ers and Redskins. I asked him about blocking Orakpo and he is always worried about his inside. When the Cowboys tackles get beat the most, it comes from the inside rush. Both tackles might need a little help in this game.
How long does Sean Lee have to wear that club?
Bryan Broaddus (12:26 PM)
Lee will have to wear the club until his wrist heals. As it gets better, then the trainers will adjust the size of it and how it fits.
BB, Garrett seems to put heavy emphasis on getting better each day. Sounds corny, but minus the Philly gm, it seems like this team is doing just that. Is Garrett winning over most of these players?
Bryan Broaddus (12:27 PM)
Winning helps all things. The players I have spoken with, like playing for Garrett and these coaches. The defensive players cant say enough great things about Rob Ryan and it doesnt bother them one bit when he talks to the media.
Jack (Conroe, TX)
How did Costa do in regards to run blocking? Seems like the weakest link there, at least in redzone.
Bryan Broaddus (12:29 PM)
Costa is the weakest link in the red zone. There are things that he can do well but sustaining blocks against big DT or nose men is a struggle for him.
COWBOY DARYLE (CALIFORNIA)
Bryan , After hearing ROMO'S comments about finally being HEALTHY and the ball going where he wants it, that just gave him more JOHN WAYNE RESPECT for not using it as a excuse, I mean there were some balls he threw while hurt and you forget the guy was nursing a major rib injury..His balls yesterday were magnificent, is it just me ??
Bryan Broaddus (12:31 PM)
You make a good point. There are two players that are playing better because they are more healthy, Tony Romo and Terence Newman but the biggest thing that has allowed Romo to play better is the running game and the protection from the OL.
Drew Pearson said Robinson runs better routes then Miles what's your opinion on that comment?
Bryan Broaddus (12:35 PM)
I didnt hear Drew say this but if you want my two cents, Austin runs better routes than Robinson. Austin runs his routes at the same speed, he is really hard for DBs to gage where he is going to make his breaks in routes. Robinson is a good route runner but again I will take Miles.
When can we expect Miles, Felix, and Jenkins back in action?
Bryan Broaddus (12:36 PM)
Miles maybe Arizona, Felix maybe this week, and Jenkins maybe Arizona.
Aundre (Fort Lee, VA)
I'm concerned with the second middle LB position. On Newman's first Int. Brookings was beaten badly and James didn't even register one tackle. Is it me or could that position hurt them later in the season?
Bryan Broaddus (12:40 PM)
If you ask guys in the front office, they know they have to find a way to get younger and more athletic at inside linebacker. Carter and Lee will be your starters one day but who is behind them will be what they need to think about for the future.
Hey Broaddus, not a football question but where are you and those GAC guys going to be today?
Bryan Broaddus (12:41 PM)
Man, I am sorry I dont. Check out the website at ESPN Dallas.com and click on their show link...
Brian (Lansing, MI)
How long do we stick with Martellus Bennet his under achieving is really getting old
Bryan Broaddus (12:43 PM)
You are half way home on the end of Bennett being a Cowboy...there is no way he comes back after this season...we all know that.
Do you think Arkin can start at one of the OG positions next year?
Bryan Broaddus (12:45 PM)
I am a big Arkin fan, I really liked in college and I think with the strength program they now have in place that he can make some gains. His biggest problem in my view was the lack of strength. He is getting better. I would not be surprised one day if he is used as a center but thats just the scout in me.
do you think Demarco Murray can beat out Cam Newton for offensive rookie of the year?
Bryan Broaddus (12:47 PM)
Good question, check out ESPN Dallas' Hot Button on Wednesday, Calvin Watkins and Tim MacMahon will debate that point.
Bryan - If Garrett puts Felix back in the starting rotation OR gives him more than 20% of the carries over Murray then I'm going to lose my mind. Look how well the offense plays when Murray is the lead back. Tell me Garrett will let him keep being the workhorse even when Felix comes back.
Bryan Broaddus (12:49 PM)
I can see Garrett using Jones like he did with Barber when he first came into the league. 8 to 10 touches for Jones will not be a bad thing in this offense. I think it will actually help Murray.
When you look at the tape of the games. Do you do grades for the players or do you just note observations to pass along
Bryan Broaddus (12:51 PM)
I write a report for ESPN Dallas on Tuesdays that breaks down the game each week. Check it out if you havent already.
Half way done with the season, give us your 6 playoff team predictions from the NFC.
Bryan Broaddus (12:53 PM)
Green Bay, SF, New Orleans, Dallas, Chicago, NY Giants
John T. Gold (Salt Lake City)
Seems both safeties are playing well. Cowboys keep one or both next year? If one which one?
Bryan Broaddus (12:56 PM)
I really like what both Sensabaugh and Elam have done this season. If you can sign both, then give it a go but if you could only have one Elam would be that guy but thats really a tough call for me.
Bryan Broaddus (12:57 PM)
Guys, thats all the time I have this week. Thanks so much for all the questions. Back to the lab, so check out my report on ESPN Dallas.com on Tuesday...Have a great week.
