Bryan Broaddus (12:00 PM)
Good morning or afternoon if that is the case. Lets get started...
Morning BB,Did we find out yesterday that Fiammetta is extremely important to our running game? Romo and the pass game sure bailed us out of a lot of 3rd and longs.
Bryan Broaddus (12:02 PM)
From what I had seen from the Redskins on run defense I knew it was going to be hard to run the ball. Cofield, Fletcher, Orakpo and Kerrigan do a nice job upfront. I havent seen the offensive side of the ball this morning but eye ball test thinks that Phillips wasnt bad but he tends to catch block which makes Murrays reads different.
John (New Jersey)
Bryan - i think the Fins will present problems if the front 7 can't put pressure on Moore. Marshall could have a big game. Thoughts?
Bryan Broaddus (12:04 PM)
Ryan was able to generate some pressure early in the game with some inside twists and such. From what I have seen so far, Hatcher and Ratliff were your best defensive players but still have a half to go. I will study Miami once I put this last game to bed and have a better answer then.
Still not sold on Dallas long-term. They beat the teams they're supposed to, and I know it's a division game, but allowing that game-tying drive...Washington isn't that good. Do you expect them to beat the Giants twice?
Bryan Broaddus (12:07 PM)
I knew that the Redskins defense was going to be tough on the Cowboys yesterday but I didnt think that Grossman would have the kind of day that he had. The two short drives they had really helped their confidence. I am to the part of the game in my study where the secondary was not doing their job in coverage.
Shawn (Ashe NC)
Bryan, Was Murray's game what you expected or far less?
Bryan Broaddus (12:09 PM)
I asked the question yesterday on our pre game show about Murray and what if he didnt gain 130 yards in the game. I learned more about him yesterday than when he had all that success. Its not always going to be easy for him. I had seen problems with the line even when he was running well.
Bryan - Secondary scares me. A lot of times they'll give up an underneath pass for 10-12 yards. Seems like a lot of Grossman passes are easy completions. Does Rob need to bring more pressure or CB's play tighter coverage? Thanks!
Bryan Broaddus (12:11 PM)
Newman had played well the last two weeks but it wasnt his best game. Scandrick hasnt been his best either and that is since he took over for Jenkins. The safety play was really off and I have never fully trusted Ball. Walker did what was asked of him in this game but your point about pressure is correct.
Shu (The ATL)
Bryan, Great two weeks for a Cowboy fan but just as the Skins scared me so do the Dolphins. What have you seen from the Dolphins on film that jumps out at you?
Bryan Broaddus (12:12 PM)
Will start on the Dolphins when I put this game to bed after I am done here.
Romo needs to get the credit he deserves. Outstanding performances in the past three weeks. Do you think he can pick the Dolphins secondary apart?
Bryan Broaddus (12:14 PM)
I will give Romo a lot of credit for yesterdays win. For the games that everyone thinks he had blown, you need to give him credit for getting the ball to nine different receivers, avoiding pressure and thinking on the move. He was the reason the Cowboys won yesterday.
Shawn (Ashe NC)
When should we expect to see Femmetta back in the lineup?
Bryan Broaddus (12:15 PM)
I have talked with several memebers of the front office about Fiammetta and no one is really sure what the problem is. Garrett never rules anyone out of a game and last week, he did it very quickly so it must be serious.
Why is AOA even on the team..has no moves in return game and stutter steps on his returns. Special teams in general are horrible coverage units almost cost us a game
Bryan Broaddus (12:16 PM)
You are preaching to the choir my friend.
Bryan, if Dallas can land either a guard or center in free agency along with a free safety, I would make OLB priority #1 in round 1. I have officially given up on Spencer as of yesterday! Lastly, I am not saying to cut Newman after the season, but, round 2 makes sense to land a CB! The man played 10 yards off Gaffney? Ridiculous!!! Now I'd appreciate your thoughts!
Bryan Broaddus (12:18 PM)
There is no doubt that they need a center. I think that Costa is just a band aid. Guard is a need as well. Defensive End, corner too. Need to hit another home run like they have with Tyron Smith for the offensive line.
I am befuddled that Joe D's STs played so horribly.
Bryan Broaddus (12:19 PM)
Trust me...Joe is befuddled too.
Hi Bryan, What was going on with the punt coverage yesterday? The Cowboys almost cost themselves the game. And if McBriar is still hurt (he clearly is), shouldn't they go with a healthy punter?
Bryan Broaddus (12:21 PM)
This McBriar injury is not good at all. He is such a weapon as a punter, it affects how they cover kicks. I saw plenty of miss tackles yesterday from players in position to make them as well. Didnt think that Danny McCray was all that great yesterday.
Vinnie Vinci (Laurence Harbor, New Jersey)
B.B.,What's the latest on Jenkins and Austin? Thanks
Bryan Broaddus (12:22 PM)
Was told that there was a shot for Jenkins for Arizona and Miles the week after that.
How has Sean Lee been playing since he has had to wear the club? Still a better option than Brooking, despite being one handed?
Bryan Broaddus (12:25 PM)
Its a credit to Sean Lee and his ability to play linebacker in the NFL with one hand. He was outstanding against the Bills and thru one half against the Redskins he has been good, have seen two plays where he got trapped inside and didnt get off the block as well as he needed to. Trying to shed those blockers has been tough but he has been up to the task.
Ernie (Fort Worth, TX)
...Demarcus had a sack yesterday, but seemed like he had plenty of one on one match-ups that he didn't take advantage of. Would love to seem him be more disruptive in the trenches, even when not getting to the QB. See Trent Cole.
Bryan Broaddus (12:27 PM)
Your eyes are not lying to you about Ware and the one on one match ups. Trent Williams is a fine offensive tackle so that was going to be a battle but I go back to the Lions game where he let Jeff Backus block him on key drives. As great as Ware can be, he can be real average too.
Joe (Bethlehem PA)
Whats the hardest team left in the schedule?
Bryan Broaddus (12:28 PM)
After what you saw yesterday...how about everyone left?
Our special teams have been so awful lately is it worth considering using Dez or Felix to return kickoffs / punts?
Bryan Broaddus (12:29 PM)
With Austin hurt, I dont use Bryant on the punt return, but there is no reason not to use Jones on the kick off return but it would also help if his teammates would decide to throw some blocks too.
Shawn Jacob (Carrollton, TX)
Biggest concern for the Cowboys heading to Thanksgiving Day game against Miami?
Bryan Broaddus (12:34 PM)
My concern is that Miami has not quit all season and they are now on a roll when it comes to moving the ball and scoring points. Its not a common opponent that you see every year, short week and a team playing with confidence. Limited game plans on both sides so it will come down to good execution so whomever does that will most likely win this game.
why do you expect that Dez disappears for quarters at a time - is it coverage? is it Romo just wants to spread it around, or is it Dez not busting butt to get open?
Bryan Broaddus (12:38 PM)
I was very hopeful for Bryant after last weeks game against the Bills. What bothered me yesterday and I was watching the game with Drew Pearson was that the week before he ran a great slant route, then with a chance in the red zone to make a play and maybe a score, he doesnt complete the route. He has to go get that ball, his route running has improved but Robinson is just making himself an easier target to get the ball too.
Craig, Lindsay, ON [via mobile]
Questioning Ware? I would love pressure every drop back as well. But he leads the league in sacks, has in 3 of the past 4 years. And also is always at the top of QB pressures. He is one Cowboy we can't question. He needs a few more rests during games to stay fresh for key drives. And what happened to our ILB blitzing. A few years back Bradie had 7.5 sacks. Bring Lee on a blitz. Or better yet, Carter, he seems to have the athleticism to help DWare get more pressure.
Bryan Broaddus (12:41 PM)
I am just offering what I have seen, but I am not alone in those thoughts either. Sometimes we really dont like the truth but it is the truth. The point that you make that I do agree with is that others do need to step up when Ware is not able to get home on the rush. It happened last week in the Buffalo game.
Ernie (Fort Worth, TX)
...Sensabaugh have a rough game yesterday? On the TD pass before the half, biting on Gaffney's outside fake when he had outside help was pretty boneheaded, seemed like.
Bryan Broaddus (12:42 PM)
Sensabaugh didnt play one of his better games.
Boys' Fanatic (Dallas )
Don't think the boys' should under estimate the dolphins they have quite a few weapons in fasano, hartline, bess, bush, and not to mention brandon marshall who torched the entire cowboys d on one play a few years back.
Bryan Broaddus (12:44 PM)
There is no way that the Cowboys are in any position to under estimate anyone. All they have to do is watch their tape of their game yesterday and then turn on Miami.
Shawn Jacob (Carrollton, TX)
Martellus Bennett caught 3 passes for 31 yards. Did the light bulb go off in his head or was it just a fluke?
Bryan Broaddus (12:45 PM)
As much as we all ride Bennett, his one handed catch was a thing of beauty. Those are the types of plays that we all thought he could consistently make. Its a shame that it has taken this long to see them.
Shu (The ATL)
BB, you are right on Ware. He does disappear in big moments and big drives. He just doesn't have the motor as a James Harrison who seems to have an I'm going to sack the QB or die mentality.
Bryan Broaddus (12:47 PM)
I will never question his motor but there are times where he is clearly better than his opponent but he allows himself to be blocked.
What did you think of Bruce Carter's performance. I liked the way he fights off blocks. Agree?
Bryan Broaddus (12:49 PM)
I did not see Carter on any defensive snaps so far, so I will have to study the special teams to give you a good answer on how he played. He did play off one block I saw and made an open field tackle but I hope he is not part of the problem of the other big returns.
Andrew (New York)
Other than Romo & Dan Bailey, were there any cowboys that had good performances? Looks like no one showed up for the game.
Bryan Broaddus (12:51 PM)
I am only half way thru the defensive side of the ball but from that limited view, Hatcher, Ratliff and Walker have been the best so far. Will have a full report on ESPN Dallas.com on Tuesday with my Scout's Eye.
Matt R (Dallas)
I was really impressed with the Commitment to the run even when it was creating 8-10 yard gashes. The balance shown by Garrett was very encouraging, you think he sticks with it?
Bryan Broaddus (12:54 PM)
I couldnt agree with you more. This was not going to be an easy game for the Cowboys to run the ball. You should be proud of Murray for the way he fought his rear off to get the yards he did. The further down the line we get, the harder it will be to run the ball. Murray showed you something yesterday.
Ware in the Saints game two years ago? When the Saints were 13-0...
Bryan Broaddus (12:56 PM)
Ware in the Lions game when they needed a sack to end the game...Ware in the New England game when they needed a sack to end the game...do we need to keep going? Its just something to think about.
Bryan, Thoughts on romo's elusiveness in the pocket and ability to improvise? It seems like he used to do that more often, and a few bad turnovers has shut it down. IMO I think romo is at his best when hes ad libbing
Bryan Broaddus (12:58 PM)
Great points, you saw Romo at his best yesterday but you have to remember that we have also seen him move around and make poor choices too. If you wanted to bust on him for those loses against the Lions and New York Jets, give him credit for carrying this team yesterday.
Bryan Broaddus (12:59 PM)
Guys...thats all I have for the day...wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving. Make sure you go to ESPN Dallas.com for all your Cowboys needs...take care and see you next Monday.
