Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:03 PM)
In the studio at ESPN because I'm doing the Coop & Nate show from 2-3 pm today. Y'all ready, let's roll.
Kenny (los angeles) [via mobile]
Dware and Mario Williams wins championships!! Tell jerrah!!
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:05 PM)
I'm not op[posed to that, but it depends on how much money Mario wants since he's coming off a serious injury that limited him to just five games last season
PL (SC)
MR. JJT, What can the boyz learn from the giants?? I'm still having problems with a 7-4 record to staying home from the playoffs!! How far are they from competing in the NFC East?? The window is closing!!
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:07 PM)
The Cowboys need more talent. The Giants can rush the passer with their front four like few others in the league on a consistent basis. That means a lot. Their QB has emerged over the past four years as among the best in the league with the game pin the line. Finally, this team need IT - whatever that is they don't have it. The Mavs had it. The Rangers didn't win the World Series, but they had it. The Cowboys don't have IT. Until they do, they won't win big.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What will be the Best Sports team in the Dallas Area in 2012,NBA & NHL 2012-2013?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:08 PM)
The rangers will be the best team this calendar year
Brian (NC)
I still feel Romo is as good as Eli. Eli has had a much better supporting cast the last few years. QB to QB I think Romo has the edge. Thoughts?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:10 PM)
You haven't been watching the games. pro sports is about more than stats and talent. Intangibles play a huge role. They're not the whole story, but they can't be ignored. right now, Eli has way more intangibles - and it's not even close. Romo doesn't know how many timeouts the Cowboys have at Washington and Eli is screaming, "Don't score! Don't score!" as he gives the ball to ahmad Bradshaw in the final minutes. Things can evolve, but until it does this isn't even a conversation
Brad (Toronto)
With the Mavs currently sitting out of the playoff picture despite Dirk coming back to life the past 2 games, do you see them making some minor moves, or will they play out the season as is and hope they can make it in as a lower seed? Surely they wouldn't want to go from champs to potentially missing the playoffs...
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:11 PM)
The only moves they're making will be minor. Cuban has already told us it's all about next season. Whatever moves they make will be to supplement what they already have
Greg (Shelton)
Do you think Garrett will steer away from players with off the field issues that will just end up a problem.
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:13 PM)
Absolutely. He doesn't like those kind of guys because they always seem to present some type of distraction during the season. I remain convinced the Cowboys wouldn't have drafted Bryant if Garrett had been the head coach. Dez hasn't done anything illegal, but it's all of the other little stuff that takes away from preparation
sean (texas)
didnt the bengals offer the cowboys a 1st round pick for bennett? if so why didnt the cowboys accept if they knew bennett would never be more then a number 2 tightend
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:14 PM)
I don't think that story has ever been confirmed by the owner. They see Bennett's talent and they drool. Lots of players don;t reach their potential for a variety of reasons. Some of it is their fault and some of it isn't.
kevin (providence)
if a trent richardson or justin blackmon fall to the cowboys, would they take them even tho its not a major need?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:15 PM)
those dudes aren't falling. That said, I don't think you can ever go wrong taking the best player. It's up to the coach to figure out how to get them on the field. Look at how many high drat picks the Giants have used on their DL.
Greg (CT)
What are your thoughts on Bruce Carter, will he truly make an impact this year? How good is he?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:18 PM)
You hope that he'll be a significant contributor because he'll be more than a year past his ACL injury and he'll get a full off-season to do his thing. If you can play, you can play. Hopefully, he can play. Got it?
Zela (the shore)
would you franchise spencer for a year?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:19 PM)
nope. I'd offer him a fair deal - and if he wants to walk, then fine. You can't overpay dudes that aren't stars. Right now, he's not a star
Matt (San Antonio)
JJT, what are the chances the Rangers make a run at Joey Votto? I think he is a better fit than Fielder, Young will be coming off the books and the TV contract money will kick in.
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:20 PM)
Is Josh still here? If so, I'd say the odds are slim. If not, then yes. You can't pay everyone, and they have a great farm system and front office that means they never find themselves in a desperate situation, where they feel compelled to pay someone
Dan (Dallas)
Should the Cowboys draft or trade for a QB?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:21 PM)
I'd take one in the first 3-4 rounds because I have seen nothing from Stephen McGee to make me thing he can start. I don;t even think he's a backup. I do think he's an ideal 3rd QB, and there's nothing wrong with that
tom (queens ny)
is the romo and eli debate officially over after this weekend superbowl?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:22 PM)
For now, it should be. The beauty of sports, though, is players are always evolving. Every opinion, in some respects, is fluid. Look at how we've changed on Dirk and Lamar Odom.
BOBBY (VA)
do you think that with the giants winning the jerry will panic and over spend on players like he did a few years ago?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:23 PM)
hope not, but you can never be too sure with Jerry. The Cowboys are not close to winning a title, and if he's lying to himself if he thinks otherwise
Rashad (Miami)
Why does it take an act of God to get younger players on the field over guys who are JAG ie Spencer, Roy Williams (with Miles Austin) and and Brooking (Bruce Carter)
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:24 PM)
because coaches are creatures of habit and they almost always prefer the known (veteran) over the unknown (youngster)
Matt (San Antonio)
I would give A LOT for BJ Upton to come to Ranger stadium, what are JD's thoughts on him. If Profar was just a little closer I would deal Andrus and some pitching for him.
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:25 PM)
But Profar isn't closer. I'm not a big BJ Upton fan. You always feel like you;re not getting everything he has. He's terrific fielder, but has struggled at the plate and you've always got his attitude issues. I'd take him, but I wouldn't break up my team to do it. I don't like high-maintenance players
Brad (Toronto)
What do you think of the Rangers this year? Above or below 90 wins? Will they even be close to the Angels in the division?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:26 PM)
below. 89 wins. They might be better later than earlier as Darvish and Feliz figure things out.
Steve (Syracuse)
Hi JJT,Ok it been 2 days....the Giants winning the SB is OLD news!!!!If Dallas and signs Mario Williams and Carr from KC to replace Newman and then drafts DeCastro in R1 and FS Lester from Alabama in R2..........is Dallas right back in the game????
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:27 PM)
bro, that's way too many hypotheticals. You can't rush the process. That's why it's called a process. Let's see what happens at the combine first. Some guy you love is gonna be awful at the combine and some dude you never heard of is gonna be the next great thing. Guaranteed.
Bryan (Springdale, AR)
JJT, who on this current Mavs squad could you see taking a reduced salary to stay with the Mavs next year if they are able to sign D. Williams and D. Howard?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:28 PM)
nobody. Dudes chase money unless their late 30s or the end of their career. Ok, somebody like Vince Carter. But DeShawn Stephenson took 2.1 million instead of 1.1 to play for NJ. It's always about the money bro.
Totally Disagree (NC)
I understand that Eli had a nice run, but if Miles makes that catch we're not even having this conversation. Also, Eli had at least three interceptions dropped at San Fran. He's a solid QB, but not even close to elite. He's not even close to his brother.
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:30 PM)
if was a 5th, we'd all be drunk as my granddad used to say. Romo didn't make that throw, so we'll never know what would've happened. Me and Nate are talking about that very subject from 2-3 today. Tune in, if you can.
Nick (Worcester)
Looking at the 2012 future odds, cowboys are 18/1 which is 12th in the league and barely lower than the Giants 15/1 odds. Does Vegas, and the ESPN's of the world over inflate the Cowboys talent level?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:31 PM)
absolutely. plus, Vegas knows some folks are gonna bet on Dallas just because they love the star
Bryan (Springdale, AR)
But JJT, I understand it's about the money, but what is the difference when these guys are already so rich? Why not say "hey, I'll take less money to win another championship and invest it well?"
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:32 PM)
Every rich person I've ever spoken to says you never have enough money. Seriously, they have a finite time to make money. No need to waste a year.
Steve (Syracuse)
JJT-- CMON......Decastro is not falling out of Round 1. He's one of the surest things to be drafted in the top half of the draft. Fine on the waiting to see what Lester will do..........but the Mario Wms/B.Carr wouldn't be too shabby for a couple big signings that we all know Jerry will do!
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:33 PM)
you don't know that. What if he has a shoulder injury lifting to prepare. Or what if he tears a knee ligament or pulls a hamstring running. I hope none of that happens, but Crabtree fell to 10th because of a foot problem
Brad (Toronto)
From your previous question on who on the Mavs would take a reduced salary... what about Jet or Odom? With Bird rights wouldn't they be willing to each take 3-5 million per year for a couple of years?
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:35 PM)
No. No. No. Jet is not going to average 16 points a game and then take a $4 million pay cut. Ego and pride would never let that happen. Me and you wouldn't do it either. Say some other company was known worldwide as the best sports journalism company in the world. If they offered me a job with a 30 percent pay cut, I wouldn't take it. Neither would you.
Jean-Jacques Taylor (1:35 PM)
I gotta go a little early this week to prepare for the radio show with Nate. I'll talk to y'all next week. Same time. Be blessed.
