I'm actually sitting in a Starbucks today on the SMU campus enjoying the atmosphere and sucking down a frappuccino, while listening to some R&B. We can talk about the Mavs, Rangers, Cowboys, Yu, SMU hoops - yes it does exist - and anything else u want to chat about.
Adam (Toronto)
Bit different question here, but in your opinion, would I be better served attending Dallas/Chicago MNF earlier in the season or Dallas/Pittsburgh later in the year with the possibility Dallas may or may not be in the mix of a playoff run and therefore the game being more/less meaningful? So what I'm asking, will Dallas be in contention within the last month of the season?
JJT (1:03 PM)
The Cowboys are always contenders at the end of the season. It just happens that they tend to fade late. But they've always been in the hunt and I;d be surprised if they're not in the hunt again this year
Adam (Toronto)
Not that I want this to happen at all because I'm actually a believer in Tony Romo, but is his leash any shorter this year with the signing of an experienced backup like Orton?
JJT (1:04 PM)
Nope. Romo is the unquestioned starter and part of the reason they gave Kyle Orton so much cash is so that he'll be cool as the backup[
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What will be the Toughest Major League Baseball Team that the Texas Rangers will face this season?
JJT (1:05 PM)
Tampa Bay in the AL. They pitch, they play D and they give you nothing. You must earn what you get and their offense is good enough to scratch out 3-4 runs.
Web (Dallas)
Who loses first, Spurs or Thunder?
JJT (1:06 PM)
Spurs, when the Thunder beats them in 6 in the WC Finals
Raul (rio grande city)
Hey JJT, whaddaya think of this Matt Johnson kid...even though he played at Eastern Washington he still had 17 picks...does he have a chance to pass Church on the DepthChart or do u see Church as a contributor/starter?
JJT (1:08 PM)
Some of y'all get frustrated because I repeat this answer often this time of year. There is NO way of knowing anything about the kids the Cowboys drafted, especially one from a smaller school like EWU, because they don't have on pads right now. If you can't look good in the underwear Olympics, you'll never look good. So u gotta wait for my opinion until training camp and the preseason games been. Sorry, but I don't want to say something just to appease you that I don't believe

There are rumors that in order for Indiana to keep Hibbert, they will need to amnesty Granger. Does a Maverick team of Deron Williams, Dirk, and Granger make them a contender?
JJT (1:10 PM)
Hmmm. I don't think it makes them a contender, but it puts them in the conversation. OKC is only gonna get better and the Lakers are going to do something dramatic after they get bounced in the Finals. And the Spurs are always in the conversation. That would be a step in the right direction, though
jfb (dfw)
If your the Mavs do you try to load up this year and not waste another year of Dirk, i.e. sign Williams, a Kaman type cente (servicable, not special), and another player or do you sign Williams, fill your roster full of 1 yr contracts w/ team options, and go after Howard the following year?
JJT (1:12 PM)
You just try to build a team with staying power. You will always fail trying to chase a particular season because your moves become so short-sighted. The best organizations think short- and long-term
jfb (dfw)
What is your sales pitch to Deron Williams to sign w/ the Mavs over other teams?
JJT (1:14 PM)
You're coming home to an organization that had won 50 games in 11 consecutive seasons. We know how to win, and we've done it with a title and two appearances in the Finals. We have a stable organization and you know we will spend money to be the best. We're one of the top organizations in sports, so come home and have everything you've ever wanted in pro sports experience
Tony (Richmond, CA)
How strongly will the Mavericks pursue Deron Williams in the offseason? And what other changes does Cuban need to make after being embarassed by the Thunder?
JJT (1:14 PM)
he's their primary off-season target. Everything, and I mean everything, else is secondary.
tony (dallas) [via mobile]
Whats your opinion on the mavs goin after cj miles this offseason? Could fill in the 6th man role if jet leaves
JJT (1:15 PM)
I'm a Skyline grad and he's a Skyline grad. I'd be fine with that. he's a rotation player. He's not shown nearly enough offensive skills on a consistent basis to put him in Jet's conversation right now. Maybe one day, but he can help
Teon (Richmond (VA))
Its interesting to say Cowboys gave up their first two picks for one guy. Isn't it reaching to say grab two people because of need when its hit and miss every single pick. it makes sense to go for the better sure option than too take two chances. would you agree? how many 1st and 2nd round bust have we had?
JJT (1:16 PM)
i want elite players. I want game-changers. I want guys capable of dominating a game.
tony(dallas) [via mobile]
If Dallas don't get d-will, do you think we go after Jeremy Lin? I heard that if New York goes after Nash they won't have money to sign Lin
JJT (1:21 PM)
Nope. The Knicks will take care of him. He only works in certain types of offenses. Put him in the right scheme and he can succeed, but i'm not sure he could ever live up to they hype.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Morris Claiborne is receving all the preseason hype and rightfully so? But will James Hanna slide under the radar and make an impact for the Cowboys his rookie year?
JJT (1:23 PM)
I wouldn't think so. I don't expect a 6th-round pick to contribute anywhere but special teams. That doesn't mean he won't, it just means i have no expectations for a diode drafted that low. After the 4th round, I basically have no expectations until guys show me something. Some like Jay Ratliff and Patrick Crayton do rather quickly
Les (Texas) [via mobile]
I've been saying for years that the Mavs should target a prototypical perimeter SG to compliment Dirk & let jet come off bench. Do you see them doing this this offseason via the draft or free agency? If so, any names come to mind?
JJT (1:24 PM)
Jet has come off the bench virtually the entire time he's been here. That said, the Mavs have struggled to fill the void at shooting guard for more than a minute. You wouldn't think it would be that hard since 2 guards are like wide receivers in the NFL - you find them everywhere, but it hasn't happened
JJT (1:27 PM)
Cowboys Stadium has the KO classic every year and they seemingly have 1-2 games every year. Jerry is always looking at ways to fill his stadium up. He loves setting up high-profile matchups and will continue to try to put them together
tony(dallas) [via mobile]
Who do u think the rangers keep beyond this season Hamilton or Napoli? Why?
JJT (1:29 PM)
Hamilton. He's the top priority. As good as Napoli was last year and as well as he play din the post-season, he must keep proving that last year wasn't a career year. I don't think it was, but he's not going to get the deal he wants until he does it again
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Are there major injuries for the Texas Rangers this season & Possibly Out for the Season?
JJT (1:29 PM)
no
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Will the pitching staff come through for the Rangers this season or prove to be an achilles heel once again?
JJT (1:31 PM)
The staff, you would think, would continue to improve because Harrison, Holland and Darvish are young enough that they should continue to improve with every start. Lewis is usually better in the postseason than the playoffs.
