Chuck Cooperstein (3:03 PM)
Hi everyone. Very strange not getting ready to broadcast Mavs playoff games. Alwasy ready to talk Mavs and NBA with you. Lets go!
MDG4EVA (Dallas,Tx) [via mobile]
I'm not looming on Kobe Bryant's injury, but do you think the Lakers will exercise their amnesty waiver on him? If so, would he be a legitimate option for the Dallas Mavericks?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:05 PM)
It doesn't appear as if they will do that since they're expecting him to play at some point next year. But if they had the chance to make an amnesty claim, I think they'd have to
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What College Basketball Players do you think will be a Perfect fit for the Mavericks?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:08 PM)
My favorite player among college guys, given where the Mavs presently are slated to draft, is Gorgui Dieng of Louisville. I think there a lot of Chandler in him. He can make a 15 footer, set a good screen, and block some shots. My favorite player overall given the positioning is German PG Dennis Schroeder, who looks like he has a little Rondo, and a little Parker in his game
jason (new london tx)
are mark and Donnie ready to open the check book this offseason or are we to suffer another season of one year deals?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:10 PM)
I think they are, to a degree. I can't see them going whole hog and trying to get everything done now There aren't enough good players to do that. I believe this is a two year process, especially because the 2014 NBA Draft and Free Agent period will be the most transformative for the le4ague in at least a decade
Coop can you rank the PGs in this year's draft in terms of who you like?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:13 PM)
I mentioned earlier, Dennis Schroeder from Germany is my fave. Love the speed and quickness. His ability in the P&R game at the Nike Summit weas impressive. He needs a better mid range game, and needs to be a better finisher around the basket. Michael-Carter Williams of Syracuse would be my next guy and then Trey Burke of Michigan
Do the Mavs look for the right pieces or do they go all in on a CP3 and Dwight buy?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:14 PM)
I think they make the attempt to get those guys, and when it doesn't happen, they go about their business. But they will try
If Cuban has another bad offseason does he start to get backlash from the Dallas media now that Jerry always seems to get no matter what he does
Chuck Cooperstein (3:16 PM)
I think he's gotten some pretty significant backlash, especially from people like Randy Galloway. I think there are people like me who understand the logic of what he did, even as we're frustrated that the plan couldn't be executed.
How competitive do you think mavs would have been if they got 8 seed and face okc, would it be a sweep like last year I say yes
Chuck Cooperstein (3:17 PM)
I think they would have been competitive since they have matched up well with OKC even if they hasven't been able to beat them. However,it would have been highly unlikely they won the series
What do you think about Nikola Pekovic as a possibilty coming to Dallas to shore up the Center position as a defensive stopper and rebounder?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:19 PM)
He's a restrictive free agent so you're likely to have to overpay to get him. He can definitely score, but he's not a particularly strong defender or rebounder.
Rock (Columbus, OH)
Why do you think the biggest free agents never come to the Mavericks in the past. This is a great franchise.
Chuck Cooperstein (3:21 PM)
For years, the Mavericks have never had the cap room to atteract those players. But if you're not on the coasts, or near a beach, it seems like its harder to atteact people. The Mavs aren't alone in this
parker (new london tx)
will the mavs make the playoffs next year?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:21 PM)
With a healthy Dirk for 75+ games, I have to believe that they will
Is holding on to a player too long going to lengthen the rebuilding of this team? What realistically could the Mavs get for Dirk?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:24 PM)
Not as much as you think since he's turning 35 this year. Holding on to Dirk doesn't affect much since his contract expires after this year and the new deal he'll sign will be for FAR less than the $22 million he'll make in 2013-14
Can the mavs get mason plumlee?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:24 PM)
Can they get Mason Plumlee? Yes, Better question is why would they want Mason Plumlee?
Are Marion and Carter destined to retire as Mavs?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:27 PM)
Not necessarily. Lets see what the summer brings. Marion could be part of a potential trade as his salary is very useful in an attempt to bring back some quality. But there's little doubt that Mark Cuban is fond of both.
my rebuild plan consists of us for signing bynum for around 12 million for two or 3 years with an opt out option.then trade carter, a pick and scraps for bledsoe. maybe bring back butler if they are interested in dumping salary. any chance that could happen?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:28 PM)
1st part yes. Last two parts? Can't see it. Bledsoe is woirth much more than that, and the Mavs didn't want to pay Butler the money he got from the Clippers when he left, why would they want to do it now?
What are your thoughts on the Mavs trying to acquire Andrew Bynum?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:30 PM)
I think 2 yrs 25m is a worthy gamble to take on Bynum. But I can't see the Sixers giving up on Bynum because they would have nothing the show for their trading of Iguodala, and Vujevic
If Eric Gordon is available and his attitude gets better, do you think he will fit well for the Mavs if they go for him in a trade possibly?
Chuck Cooperstein (3:31 PM)
Making WAY too much money. I like him. I just don't like him as a max player.
Chuck Cooperstein (3:34 PM)
Let's end it there. Thanks to all of you who took the time all year long to chat. And thanks to all of you who took the time to listen to Brad Davis and me all year. Your time is never taken for granted. Can't wait for the lottery on May 21. The Draft on June 27, and then July free agency to see where all of this takes us. Have a great summer. In the meantime, any questions, you can reach me on Twitter @CoopMavs
