Richard Durrett (1:07 PM)
My apologies for being late. Missed every light coming home from gym. Let's talk Rangers.

Should rangers find some help or just go with the kids from the minor?
Richard Durrett (1:08 PM)
This has to be an internal thing. If there's a deal out there that was cheap and made sense, you look at it. But I don't see that. Otherwise, go with the kids and let them grow. Get some injured guys back, make some offseason moves and be a much better club in 2015. I'm not saying you give up on 2014. But you don't mortgage the future for the short-term.

It seems the Rzngers have finally found the right group of players and are being very competitive now. Do you think they have a chance of being at the top of the division at game #160?
Richard Durrett (1:09 PM)
No. The A's look like the class of the AL West and at this moment, have the best record in the AL. There are a gaggle of teams, including Texas, in the mix for one of the wild card spots. The question is whether they can continue to stay in the hunt for that.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who did the Texas Rangers Select Thursday Night in the 2014 MLB Draft?
Richard Durrett (1:10 PM)
Luis Ortiz, a HS pitcher from California, who modeled his game after Felix Hernandez (watched his games on TV and taught himself how to pitch by mimicking his mechanics) and Ti'Quan Forbes, a shortstop. Rounds 3 through 10 are today.
Mike Ho (Hong Kong)
Hello Richard, do you think Feliz will work his way back to the big leagues this year?
Richard Durrett (1:11 PM)
I do. But I'm not sure when. Right now, he's not still at the consistency level he must be at to return to the majors. He'll have a good outing one night and then not put up similar stuff the next. But overall, he's progressing and improving, if that makes sense. He's just not quite there yet.

It's still early in the season, but with everything that's happened and the Rangers where they are Ron Washington has to be an early candidate for manager of year right?
Richard Durrett (1:12 PM)
Without question. This team is .500. That's amazing considering the injuries. If Ron Washington isn't on the short-list right now for that award, there's a problem.
Hi Richard, any concerns about Darvish having to hit in Washington this weekend?
Richard Durrett (1:13 PM)
You mean last weekend? He came out of the game just fine and is ready for tonight's start against Cleveland.

Please tell me Rangers will make great effort to sign Morales. While. I know they're a long shot for WS it would sure make them more competitive. An extra incentive for fans to watch on TV & sit in 100 dehree heat.
Richard Durrett (1:15 PM)
I'll think they'll look at him, but he's likely going to have his choice. They aren't going to break the bank and he may want to go to a team that has a better record to this point or a stadium he likes better or whatever. It's not simply about if the Rangers want him. Without the draft pick compensation, he's a lot more attractive.
Dave (Streator, Illinois)
Are the Blue Jays for real? They just manhandled the Tigers. Strange.
Richard Durrett (1:16 PM)
They are for real. Remember, Toronto was the team everyone expected to compete for the AL East last year. Maybe they're just a year late.
Mitch Moreland is the worst 3 hole hitter in the history of the club. Your thoughts?
Richard Durrett (1:17 PM)
He's the best option they've got at this point. With the injury issues, what do you want the manager to do? I know for fans, that's why it's easy to tell the club to go sign Kendrys Morales. But again, it's not quite that simple. They have interest, I just think the chances aren't great that he signs here.

Do you think the rangers might go after some pitchers before the trade deadline
Richard Durrett (1:19 PM)
I think we have to see where this team sits in a month. But if it looks like they aren't true contenders, I think it's more likely they look to sell some pieces rather than buy. Why not let the young kids play, see if they can hang in the wild-card spot and position themselves to add pieces for the future?
Darryl (Frisco) [via mobile]
Should Marales be signed if we were just going to upgrade the offense for a year? No draft pick, no prospects involved. All we are getting back this summer is Holland and Soto. Don't see this offense getting any better.
Richard Durrett (1:20 PM)
He would make the lineup better, but it would have to be a discounted deal. Not worth a huge investment at this point. If that deal is there, great. But I doubt it is.
Jonathan (Ennis) [via mobile]
I know it's WAY too early for this, but when the trade deadline comes, what do you think the Rangers will address - Starters, Offense, or Bullpen?
Richard Durrett (1:21 PM)
I think they'll look for the best young players they can, assuming they are selling. If they make a big run, perhaps they'll add to the lineup if they can. Again, I just don't know how they do that. They don't want to give up a lot of assets and with all the injuries this season, there are too many holes to try to plug. Sometimes holding your cards isn't a bad play.
Joel (Fort Worth) [via mobile]
What affect, if any, do you think Tim Bogar has had on Ron Washington's in-game decision making? The only difference I see is perhaps more defensive alignment changes.
Richard Durrett (1:22 PM)
We've certainly seen more defensive changes with how the club is aligned and what they do. I think Bogar has also helped instill Washington's belief in a more aggressive approach on the bases. The two talk constantly and work through the game. Bogar has to help guide Washington as the bench coach, but ultimately the calls are Washington's to make.
Do you think the Rangers are still chasing game 6? Would this team be better served in rebuilding this year and possibly next and coming back strong in two years?
Richard Durrett (1:25 PM)
I think they are trying to construct the best team they can through developing and signing key veterans. Injuries make an evaluation of how that's going difficult. But I don't think it requires some major shift. There's a good nucleus here. I think you look at anything and everything at the deadline to keep building for the future and then see if some of these injured guys come back strong in 2015. Not sure what else they can do.

Who is the better 2 baseman odor or sardines
Richard Durrett (1:26 PM)
I'd have to say Odor at this point. But we're talking about a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old, so it's way early. Both have talent and potential. But Odor is ahead of Sardinas and considered the better prospect by the scouts I've talked to.
John (Houston, TX)
Which team is better: the 2014 current 25-man roster or the 2014 DL roster (those 18 players who have spent time on DL)?
Richard Durrett (1:27 PM)
Wow. Hmm. If it's the Prince Fielder of last year or a few years ago, I might have to say the DL roster. You've got a young pitcher in Martin Perez who started the season well and was solid last year. Matt Harrison won 18 games in 2012. Derek Holland pitched consistently last season. Kevin Kouzmanoff was tearing the cover off the ball. Then again, the current version still has Adrian Beltre, Alex Rios, Shin-Soo Choo and Yu Darvish.
Jimmy K. (Edmond, Ok)
Who from the minors may we see and sign sooner? Anybody the Rangers so intrigued by they'd bring up and give a 5 yr/10million dollar deal?
Richard Durrett (1:28 PM)
I think they'll let these guys develop at their own pace. There's plenty of good prospects at the lower levels. How can you not be impressed by what Joey Gallo has done? But no reason to rush them.
You have to think teams are going to be calling the Rangers about Soria and Rios before the trade deadline. Would we be willing to part and what do you think would be a good package for them?
Richard Durrett (1:29 PM)
If this team is not in contention, I'm willing to part with both for the right price. But I'm hesitant on Rios. He adds a lot to this team and has been consistent. I could see him helping next year, too. But Rios is a guy that a contending team should covet. If he nets something good in return, you'd have to consider it.
Is Harrison truly trying to make a comeback? Is there an ligitament chance he can pull it off?
Richard Durrett (1:30 PM)
Yes, he's trying. But it won't be easy. We're talking about three back surgeries in the last year or so and this last one was spinal fusion surgery. It's going to be a long, hard road. But I think he wants to try. I hope he can do it.
Richard Durrett (1:31 PM)
Thanks for all the questions. We'll see the club does against the Indians in this four-game series which starts tonight.
