We'll get back to the actual draft selections in a bit, but frankly, aside from new Timberwolves general manager David Kahn putting Matt Millen and Jon Gruden to shame by stockpiling people who play the same position in a matter of mere minutes, the week's real drama involved players who long since had their moment on the podium with David Stern.

We're talking trades -- and not just mentally talking, as Shaq seems to prefer.

Vince Carter is in Orlando, Richard Jefferson is in San Antonio, Shaquille O'Neal is in Cleveland and Thabo Sefolosha is in Oklahoma City. And if you don't think that last one matters, you've obviously never listened to anyone with an Oklahoma accent.

Get ready, Cleveland. [Shaq] willl be fat and out of shape when camp starts, he'll have to play himself into shape, and he'll be injured the first 1 - 1 1/2 months of the season. Just like every other team he has ever played for! Bank it!

Chad Ford didn't get to as many questions as normal in Tuesday's chat, but give the guy a break; it's two days before the draft and he's working the phones like a crazed American Idol fan. Plus, he gave chatters something just as valuable as answers -- a scoop! Ford opened with the report that the Spurs and Bucks had agreed in principle on a trade sending Richard Jefferson to San Antonio for essentially salary cap relief.

SportsNation's verdict came swiftly on the still unfinalized deal; the Lakers are still the overwhelming favorites in the West (all right, so that part wasn't that exciting).

Mike (LA)

Why in the world would the Bucks do that?

Bowen, Oberto and Thomas are all in the last year of their contracts. It saves them roughly $3 million this year and $15 million next year. And it gives them some flexibility to sign at least one of their restricted free agents -- either Charlie Villanueva or Ramon Sessions. Full transcript.

NFL with Chris Mortensen
  • Chris MortensenJon hasn't had a training camp so I would expect you would ease him into things. But I did talk to him last week and he was baffled as to why nobody had been more aggressive. He had his knee surgery 10 months ago and felt strong and healthy. He's had a strong career. Leader. Toughness. Heady. I like the signing and it could help quite a bit especially in December and January.
  • Bill (Laplace, LA)Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Chris. How do you see the N.O.-N.E. game playing out, and do you think Gregg Williams will be with the Saints next year?
  • Chris MortensenFascinating game Monday Night. I favor the Saints because that's a very tough place in a MNF setting but I'm sure having a primetime game at Indy has prepared the Patriots for this moment. These teams are Super Bowl-caliber. Interesting sidebar is that Greg Williams did something to tick off Belichick when he was head coach in Buffalo; lot of people around NFL suspected that was the root of the Patriots "running up" the score on Redskins and Joe Gibbs in 2007. Williams was the defensive coordinator for Gibbs then. I believe he will get a couple of HC interviews; just having a feeling he'll remain in New Orleans.
  • ken (md)hey how are you? Is the Trent Edwards Era done in Buffalo? Also if the BILLS somehow get Shannahan do you see him making Donte Whitner his starting Strong safety?
