NHL playoff predictions?

The matchups for the 2014 NHL playoffs are set, and they could get epic. The Presidents' Trophy-winning Boston Bruins will take on the Detroit Red Wings, who scraped into the playoffs but are still, you know, the Red Wings. The defending-champion Chicago Blackhawks will take on the rival St. Louis Blues. The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings will meet in an intrastate battle. And Broadway vs. Broad Street is back when the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers square off. Who will win each series? What are your picks for the later rounds?

Big moves made at NHL deadline

The 2014 NHL trade deadline was reliably active, with a number of deals going down not long before the 3 p.m. ET cutoff. Among the biggest: The Montreal Canadiens acquired left wing Thomas Vanek from the New York Islanders; the Los Angeles Kings grabbed right wing Marian Gaborik from the Columbus Blue Jackets; and, in a deal involving two potentially playoff-bound parties, the New York Rangers acquired right wing Martin St. Louis -- who had requested a trade -- and sent right wing Ryan Callahan and two high draft picks to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Which was the biggest deal? Which team will fare best down the stretch? Who wins it all?

Would Messier succeed as coach?

Mark Messier brought the New York Rangers their first Stanley Cup in decades. But does that qualify Messier, who has no coaching experience, to replace the fired John Tortorella? It's true that some former star athletes have succeeded as both player and coach; Bill Russell won two NBA titles while holding both jobs. But others have found their skills didn't translate to X's and O's and managing egos. Would Messier succeed? Would his former teammate Wayne Gretzky, who is also said to be interested and has four years' coaching experience, be a better choice? Vote below!
