Nets knock off Heat
On January 1, the Nets were 10-21 and way out of anyone's idea of a playoff race. Since then, however, they've gone 23-9 (the best record in the Eastern Conference during that time) and are looking like the team no one wants to play in the postseason. Just ask the Heat, who lost for the third time this season against the Nets on Wednesday night. Miami fans are probably sick to death of Jason Kidd -- in his last 24 games as a player or coach, he's 19-5 against the Heat.
NBA teams tanking or rebuilding?
"Tanking" has been a buzzword this season in the NBA, what with a talented 2014 draft class coming and teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers placing little emphasis on winning now. But new commissioner Adam Silver refuses to use the word, instead calling the process of trading veterans for picks, young players and cap room "rebuilding." No matter the term, it certainly is a polarizing subject. It's no fun to watch your team lose, but it's also hard to deny the success of some recent rebuild/tank jobs, not to mention the fact that certain moribund teams (Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks) actually tried to make the playoffs. What say you?

Broncos sign Talib, Ware
The Broncos have made two major splashes in free agency, signing former Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib to a six-year, $57 million deal that includes $26 million in guaranteed money, and giving former Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware a three-year, $30 million deal with $20 million guaranteed. The oft-injured Talib was one of the few bright spots on an inconsistent Patriots defense last season, and though he was knocked out of the AFC Championship Game against the Broncos by a hard hit from Wes Welker, he appears not to hold any lingering resentment. Ware's six sacks in 2013 were the lowest single-season total of his career, but evidently, the Broncos think he'll rebound outside of Dallas.
