Tim Tebow may be gone, but that doesn't mean the Jets' quarterback situation is settled. General manager John Idzik said that there's going to be an open competition for the QB spot, including everyone from struggling incumbent Mark Sanchez to backup Matt Simms. Whether the quarterback who starts the season will be the same person who finishes it is another question, but the Jets are keeping what options they have open on all fronts.

The Jets have a pretty good problem -- they have four quarterbacks in camp who have all started in the NFL. Or at least it'd be a good problem without all the question marks: Mark Sanchez's confidence, Tim Tebow's arm, David Garrard's health and Greg McElroy's inexperience. It'll be interesting to see which direction the Jets go in this season -- if, in fact, they decide to go in a single direction at all.

Greg McElroy may have won against the Cardinals last week, but Rex Ryan is sticking with Mark Sanchez for this week's matchup against the Jaguars. In the long term, this might be a better decision than we're giving it credit for -- winning games at this point might actually be a bit counterproductive for the 5-7 Jets, and it might be time to look forward to next season -- but it's still something of a strange one given Sanchez's benching last week. The Mark Sanchez/Tim Tebow debate has consumed the back pages of New York tabloids for most of the season, but might they have been focusing on the wrong backup quarterback? Greg McElroy didn't exactly turn into Joe Namath upon replacing Mark Sanchez in the Jets' matchup against the Cardinals, but he did lead the Jets to their first and only score and the win without throwing an interception.
