Mark Saxon (4:30 PM)
It's getting close. The Angels have an exhibition game tonight against the Padres, a couple more against the Dodgers and then, as they say, "the lights come on," for Monday's opener vs. the Minnesota Twins. There's a lot to talk about, so let's roll!
Frankie (Anaheim, CA)
Where do you see the Angels Seeding in the West and Why?
Mark Saxon (4:33 PM)
Frankie, I don't really buy all the computer projections that have the Angels being under .500 and finishing last. That said, I think they'll be pushed harder than at any time since 2003. It could be a 3- or 4-team race. My gut feeling is that the Rangers will win the division and the Angels will finish a close second.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Which players that Played for the Los Angeles Angels in 2009 either got traded or signed with other MLB teams in 2010?
Mark Saxon (4:35 PM)
Chris,Free agents who left: John Lackey (Boston), Chone Figgins (Seattle), Vladimir Guerrero (Texas) and Darren Oliver (Texas).Traded: Gary Matthews Jr.Acquired: Fernando Rodney (free agent), Joel Pineiro (free agent) and Brian Stokes (from Mets for Matthews).
Jesse (Santa Paula,CA)
Mark, What is the lastest on the Angels players trying to make the roster that are out of options? I hope they keep Wilson and Evans instead of Willits and Q.
Mark Saxon (4:38 PM)
Hey Jesse,You might get your wish. Willits' injury and Quinlan's bad spring are opening the door for those two guys. Evans is a totally different guy from Willits, so it will be interesting to see how it works out. He's more of a power hitter. I don't see the Angels carrying three catchers for long, so I think Wilson's days with the organization might be numbered in the long run.
Richard (Omaha,NE)
Im really excited about how Brandon Wood looks more plate discipline during the Games. Is he spending more time with Bobby Abreu?
Mark Saxon (4:49 PM)
Hi Richard, I haven't seen Brandon spend time with Bobby Abreu, but most of the Angels have learned from Abreu's approach. Wood definitely is going to need to increase his walks and cut down on his strikeouts or he won't be in the lineup long.
Joe (Long Beach)
Love the chats Mark! Who's getting the last 2 roster spots?
Mark Saxon (4:51 PM)
Thanks Joe, Off the top of my head I would say Bobby Wilson and Terry Evans make it. They're both out of options. If Wilson makes it, bear in mind that Matt Palmer probably has to go to the minors. These are major life moments for the players involved, but the impact of these decisions on the Angels' season probably will be minimal.
Cassidy (San Jose)
What is the best part of your carreer?
Mark Saxon (4:52 PM)
Cassidy, What career?Getting hired by ESPN and getting to do a series of stories from the Dominican Republic five years ago were nice highlights.
Mark Saxon (4:55 PM)
Sorry to make it so short, but I have to head out to Angel Stadium in a few minutes. Next week, there will be a lot more to talk about.
