Ohm (1:01 PM)
Wud up everybody... I see you got a lot of questions about the draft. I'll try to answer to my best... here we go!
yaa buddy hows everything going ohm...You see the giants looking at Casey Mathews at all? Maybe a trade down to indy's spot and getting a couple more picks and taking him, I know people say he is a 2nd or 3rd rounder but no way he last past the beginning of the second round.
Ohm (1:02 PM)
Hey man, wud up? I haven't heard anything of Casey with the Giants yet but that doesn't mean they aren't considering him. They can keep things under wrap pretty well. I still am guessing the Giants stick at 19 and draft a player there. But that's my guess. But I understand why you want Casey. He looks like a beast and they need a fiery athletic linebacker.
Will Kelland (Capetown, South Africa)
Hey Ohm,I've been thinking about the giants offseason and came up with what I thought is a more or less an ideal offseason. It starts with Giants drafting one of the the top outside tackles(maybe the one from colorado or usc) in the first round, take the best outside lb in rd 2 (where kiper and mckshay have all the 4-3 outside lbs except for ayers), resigin bullock for one more year to mentor the new kid and sign barret rudd. Giants o-line would be helped, and our greatest weakness, lb, would be in go from being average at best to pretty good. Would the giants do it?
Ohm (1:05 PM)
SHOUT OUT TO SOUTH AFRICA! Ok, I can definitely see the Giants drafting an OL at 19 because that appears to be the best value. But I would never discount Reese from going defense as well and there are plenty of defensive linemen there as well. Second round, I can see linebacker if there is a good one there or best player available being a running back or corner or tight end -- all areas they can use some help. Re-signing Bulluck is a possibility... depends on what happens with the draft and who becomes available in FA. Sounds like a plan. But I wouldn't doubt Mr. Reese either. Trust in Reese.
Shakoor (Newark Brick city)
Wassup Ohm. Do you think big blue will get bruce carter in the second round if so I think he will be a steal.
Ohm (1:06 PM)
Wud up Shakoor! I am not sure if Bruce Carter will be there when the Giants pick in the second round. But it's possible. Hard to know what the NYG are thinking. They like to keep things tight. But I would love to see them grab a linebacker in the second or third round.
Erick Onasis (NY)
Ohm, Koji Uehara or Gregg, who do you think is the better choice to close game for the O's?
Ohm (1:08 PM)
E, I'll take this one because I am from Maryland... I'd like to see Koji get a shot. Kind of excited about the O's but trying to keep that to a minimum because I know how bad they've been for so long.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Which New York Giants Players will be Traded once the CBA Has Been Reached?
Ohm (1:08 PM)
Hard to say CF because we don't know what free agency will look like.
Henry (New York)
although there is a lockout, what are some of the guys you think the giants may target in free agency?
Ohm (1:09 PM)
Henry, don't mean to avoid the question but it's hard to say who will be a free agent. We don't even know who will be a free agent or restricted free agent for the Giants...
dave (syrcuse ny)
is plax going to pay with the giants
Ohm (1:10 PM)
Dave, I think the bigger equestion is, will the Giants go after Plaxico. Plenty of players want Plax back. Got to see if Reese and Coughlin and Mara want him back.
Young...long time buddy. All this lockout talk is too much for me to handle, but in an effort to stay relevant i just have one comment:Ramses Barden is going to be a PROBLEM this year.
Ohm (1:11 PM)
Hey man, wud up? Ramses is going to be a problem in a good or bad way? I am assuming you mean good. I know he has been tweeting about how hungry he is and how hard he has been working. I'd like to see him get a chance, and get some snaps. He played well in that game before he rolled his ankle and was out for the year. And with Smitty being brought along slowly due to microfracture surgery, Ramses could be in line for action!
The lockout leaves so much in limbo, but I'm wondering what type of options will be available in free agency for the Giants to upgrade at LB, it seems to be the most glaring weakness on the team?
Ohm (1:12 PM)
Hey Jerry! As I said earlier, and I posted your question because I try to get to everybody I can, hard to say who will be a free agent. Don't even know if someone like Barry Cofield will be a restricted free agent or unrestricted. That is why this draft kind of takes on different meaning with FA likely to start after the draft.
Evan (Madison, WI)
Will Travis Beckum compete for the starting TE role over Kevin Boss? From someone who watched him play at UW, his upside is enormous.
Ohm (1:15 PM)
E, I saw Becks at U-W too and saw him do pretty well against my Michigan State Spartans. Beckum can catch for sure but the coaches wanted to see him improve his blocking and his route running in camp. When they had injuries to a lot of their receivers during the season, they used Beckum to line up as a receiver at times but Eli didn't throw much to him. He was targeted very few times. I would like to see them use him more. I do not see him beating out Boss if they re-sign Boss, which I expect them to do. But I still would like to see them use Becks more in the passing game. If he can improve his blocking, I think he will see more time, hopefully.
Ohm (1:15 PM)
I still love you Rex! Do your thing.
Ohm (1:15 PM)
Can't wait for that fourth-straight win in football.
The Giants should go DT or Ingram (if he falls) in the first, and get an OL in the mid rounds, where there is a lot of depth? Seems like it's not the Giants way to get an OL high in the draft, but everyone has them taking Pouncey or one of the tackles. What do you think?
Ohm (1:18 PM)
Chris, makes sense to go DT as well. I know, they drafted DE and DL with their first two picks last year. It appears that their best value would be OL at 19. And I am curious to see what they will do because with FA likely coming after the draft, Giants may want to cover themselves with the uncertainty. What happens if O'Hara and Koets have setbacks or don't recover as fast as expected. Seubert may not be ready for the season opener. He has a long rehab ahead of him. And what if the Giants don't exercise an option in Andrews' contract because of his back issues? Then a first-round OL would be nice to have, you know? I wouldn't mind Pouncey or one of the tackles, especially since there isn't a stud linebacker or corner that should be there at 19.
More likely to return to the Giants, Bradshaw or Kiwi. I am the Shogun of Harlem!!!!!!
Ohm (1:19 PM)
Sho'nuff... wud up in Harlem? Gun to my head, I'm saying Bradshaw. I think they bring both guys back. But if you are asking me to pick one, I say Bradshaw because if Kiwi can command a nice contract from another team, the Giants may not want to take the risk with the neck injury... Giants want him back within reason.
Not sure if it's been covered or not, but would it make sense, once the League year officially starts for the Giants to try and trade Barber for picks or whatever rather than just release him if he does in fact come back? They still have rights to him correct?
Ohm (1:20 PM)
Joe, they do still have his rights. But I don't think they would get anything for him. I don't see any teams giving up much or anything for Tiki at his age and being out of the game that long. But yes, they do own his rights until they release him.
Heath Riley (New City)
If the NYG go OT in round one do you think Beatty has a future at RT or is it a sign his days are numbered. How does the staff/front office feel about Beatty as a future OT and should Deihl be shifted inside to guard.
Ohm (1:22 PM)
Heath... I don't think the front office has soured on Beatty. He still has to develop. I don't think you could discount him from RT. Perhaps they could move him there when McKenzie is done. But Beatty is still progressing. He's not ready, yet, to become the starting LT, unless he wins the job in camp this year. Diehl absolutely could be shifted to LG while Seubert rehabs. If Andrews' back is OK and the Giants opt to keep him, Andrews could be the starting LT.
Tim (New Haven, CT)
My man Ohm! If Ingram is still available, do you think the Giants will take him at no. 19?
Ohm (1:24 PM)
Hey Tim. Wud up? I don't know. Depends on how they feel about his knee. I think Ingram is a player when healthy. And it would make sense since Bradshaw could be a FA and Jacobs is set to make nearly $5 million the next two seasons. That would qualify as best player available if he is there and Giants deem him healthy and take him. It's possible Miami passes on him at 15.
joe a (queens ny)
Will Barden stepup to a number 2-3 reciever? I love the potential. Is Burress coming back to NY?
Ohm (1:25 PM)
Joe... He could be the number three if Smith's knee isn't ready or suffers a setback. But otherwise, he's the fourth receiver at best because of Nicks, Smith and Manningham. As for Plax, don't know. The Giants have to figure out if they want him back and then would have to get him and make sure he doesn't sign with someone else.
why would u do a giant chat when the jets took over town already.you should switch teams just like justin tuck should
Ohm (1:27 PM)
Steban... I'm the Giants beat writer. You guys are in good hands with Cimini. And there are plenty of Giants questions to answer. Jets have been great the last two years., I love that team as well because I covered them quite a bit with Cimini while at the Daily News. Fun locker room, fun coach. But I got my G peeps to reach out too as well.
Andrew (Ann Arbor)
Ohm my man - What are the chances the Giants land your boy Greg Jones?
Ohm (1:28 PM)
Andrew, I wish! I thought Greg would be really good but he didn't have as strong a senior year as I thought he could have had and there hasn't been a lot of talk about him. I guess there are questions about his size. I still think he plays hard. I am very curious to see how he does at the pro level. He gave MSU four solid seasons.
i've heard a lot of negative talk about Akeem Ayers, what do you think the Giants think about him, and if they dont like him, are there any other LBs that haven't really been talked about that they might like. Also, thoughts on Mike Pouncey. i hear hes secretly not that good, and his brother his helping his draft status more than his skill.
Ohm (1:31 PM)
DZ... well, I've seen some mock drafts that have Ayers dropping into late first round to second round. I guess teams aren't thrilled with his speed. But he still sounds like a player. Just not sure if he fits the Giants system. I've seen reports that the Giants were looking at Justin Houston and Akeem Dent. As for Pouncey, some have said he hasn't been all that great at center at times but from what it appears as of recently, his stock appears to be going up. He tweeted yesterday that he'd be shocked if he weren't a Cowboy so we'll see.
Tim (New Haven, CT)
Ohm. I was a big WWE fan during the Attitude Era (Vince vs. Steve Austin, The Rock)....why can't wrestling be like that today!?
Ohm (1:33 PM)
Wrestling needs to go back to that day and the earlier days when my favorite -- Macho Man Randy Savage -- was fighting guys like Ricky the Dragon Steamboat and Jake the Snake Roberts. Miss those days of Ultimate Warrior and what not. The Rock, though, is the greatest of all time, hands down. Pure entertainment. Wish I could have seen Wrestlemania. I could watch the Rock talk for an hour. He's hilarious!
Ohm, how do the Giants plan to address the tipped pass issue that plagued them and essentially tanked last season? Does Coughlin have a strategy to make the proper adjustments with Eli and the recieving corps. the way that he did with Tiki and his fumbling issue?
Ohm (1:34 PM)
G, I think they have plenty of things they will do. Eli has probably broken down each tipped pass on film. I think Gilbride has already gone over every interception from the past season. Some of those were not Eli's fault on the tipped balls. Others, he threw them a tad off. The receivers need to focus better, both sides have to develop more trust, and there's an element of bad luck as well.
Tim (New Haven, CT)
Quick Question: If you had to pick a QB that would be on your team for the next 5 years, would you rather Phillip Rivers or Eli Manning and why?
Ohm (1:36 PM)
Wow... I guess I would pick Rivers, he keeps putting up prolific numbers and Eli still has his ups and downs and the 25 INTs leave a bad taste in my mouth. BUT, with that being said, you cannot discount that Eli has the experience of winning the big games, something Philip hasn't done yet. And I still think Eli's best is ahead of him. But Rivers will have the better numbers, likely.
Ohm (1:37 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for the questions this week! See you all next week!
