Ohm (1:59 PM)
Wud up guys, what you got today?
Well,Well,Well, look who's schedule got alot tougher in the next couple of weeks!!!No more east mi, north mi ,south mi, mi attack. What a bunch of losers to have to take a bye week and still wlll lose to the BIG BLUE!!!lOSERS!!! Can't stand them!!!Makes me sick!!!
Ohm (2:01 PM)
Right, because Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and SD State are juggernauts. MSU's schedule is brutal this year and I've said it before, I'd be very happy with seven wins. But all I want for Christmas is to beat Michigan for a fourth-straight year. An entire class going without beating MSU would be sweet.
paul thompson (san fran)
homey ohmyyy!! dont ever forget the best is in the west!!How do you justify replacing JPP with Osi when he is playing like a beast just to appease Osi's ego??
Ohm (2:02 PM)
West Coast! That's a good question. As good as JPP has been, and he has 4.5 sacks this season, Osi is coming off a year where he had 11.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles. So it's not like Osi is a bum. But it probably would make life easier for the coaching staff if JPP rotated in. We'll see what happens whenever Osi comes back.
Ohm (2:02 PM)
And as for when Osi will return, there's a chance this Sunday. But not a lock. Have to see how his knee responds. He ran on Monday. He'll have to practice and not suffer any setbacks.
When/how are the giants going to fix the TE situation? I don't think they can go through the entire season without getting any production.
Ohm (2:04 PM)
Well, they've never been a team that uses the tight end position a whole lot. But they will need a bit more production there eventually. But I think they seem to be content with what they are getting there so far. The most important thing is the blocking which they are getting from Ballard and Pascoe.
Ohm - you need a haircut. But more importantly, is Ramses Barden ever ever ever going to play, or is the the next Sinorice Moss and/or Travis Beckum?
Ohm (2:05 PM)
I do! It's getting Bruce Lee long. But I haven't had any time to get a hair cut. Today would be a good day but I'm chatting with you guys and got a story to write later on Antrel. Ramses is on PUP list. Can't come off until after Week 6.
p (pway nj)
how do you think eli will fare against cardinals secondary? run game gonna be used more or less?
Ohm (2:06 PM)
I think they'll try to do what they did against Eagles and be balanced and spread the ball around.
Is Jacquian Williams the real deal?
Ohm (2:07 PM)
I don't know what you mean by that? Keep in mind that he's a rookie who didn't have a ton of major college football experience. He's still learning the game and largely using his athletic abilities. He's fast and the coaching staff loves him. Used him as Vick spy last week and he's getting better every week but temper expectations.
Ohm whats good my guy! Do you think in the future Gibride's playcalling will be more along the lines of what we seen in philly or back to the usual?
Ohm (2:08 PM)
I think his playcalling was great vs Philly. For the past two weeks, he's tried to remain balanced with run and pass but this week there was execution. Hopefully they will get Nicks more involved this week too.
Hey Ohm- was this eagles victory a season changer for the giants?
Ohm (2:09 PM)
Too early for that. But they need to capitalize on it and win these next two games at the very least. This makes up for the Redskins loss and now they believe in what they can do despite all the injuries. They see what this team is capable of.
Ohm- any tuck update? How about Prince and Osi?
Ohm (2:10 PM)
No Tuck update. We'll find out more tomorrow. Today is an off day. Prince is still rehabbing. Might not play until end of month or next month. Osi, there's a chance he could play Sunday. Has to practice first and see how knee responds. But no lock to play Sunday.
Ohm, thoughts on Jaquian Williams? Looks like whoever's doing the scouting for the Giants in South Florida should get a hefty pay raise
Ohm (2:11 PM)
I mentioned Jacquian earlier but wanted to get your question in. Athletic and raw but Coughlin is most impressed with his studying and character. Jacquian has gotten better with each week. Potential is there. Somewhat similar to JPP from last year. TC says he may have to go to the South Florida well more often.
p b (used to be buenos aires remember?)
keys for victory next week for eli and the offense against cardinals defense?
Ohm (2:11 PM)
Same as this week... no turnovers. Convert close to half of third downs. Be physical with the run and get the ball to playmakers. But no turnovers.
Mike (Long Island)
Is Victor Cruz a one game wonder? Or has he shown enough that he can be the 3rd receiver on this team, and do a consistent job?
Ohm (2:12 PM)
I am not going to call him a one-game wonder. But we have to see him perform consistently. We can't just say, ok, he's ready to do this every game. But Manningham said he likes this trio of him, Nicks and Cruz and says that all three can go downfield at any time.
KJGans (Bloomington, IN)
According to ProFootballFocus grades, Kenny Phillips has a +8.1 rating through 3 weeks, the highest grade among all safeties in the league. Before his knee injury in 2009 it looked like he was poised to become one of the best safeties in the game. Do you think this is finally the year Phillips reaches his potential, and becomes one of the best safeties in the game?
Ohm (2:14 PM)
KJG, not ready to say that just yet. What I want to see first is a return to his old form after the knee injury and he's starting to get to that point. Let him get back to where he was before and then we'll go from there. He's looking faster and hitting harder than last year. Looks more confident.
Ohm- how good can JPP be? I thought he could have had 5 sacks Sunday, relentless and highly skilled.
Ohm (2:14 PM)
Dre, potential is off the charts. He can be really really good. Wait till he really learns this game and gains even more experience.
JPP (Metlife Stadium)
Ohm how badly did I hurt my ankle?
Ohm (2:15 PM)
You said it was just a cramp at the end of the game and you will be fine.
How close is the Fresh Prince of Smelly Air to returning?
Ohm (2:16 PM)
Answered this earlier but want to get your question in... perhaps end of month or early next month. Still making way back but has been seen doing some cornerback individual drills in practice last week like back-pedaling, things of that nature.
With the Giants' soft schedule through Week 10 (@AZ, SEA, BUF, BYE, MIA, @NE, @SF), would anything less than a 6-3 record going into Week 11 be a supreme disappointment?
Ohm (2:17 PM)
Well, I had them going 6-2 to start first eight games when schedule came out. But I had them beating the Redskins and Bills and Buffalo is much much improved. 6-3 would be ideal before the schedule gets really really hard. But there's so much that can happen by then. You've seen all the injuries right? Just let them get through these games healthy.
Marc Tyler (Breakin bread)
we all ballin ohm. quick question, do i start the giants d against the cardinals?
Ohm (2:18 PM)
Marc, I think they are a decent option to start on Sunday. Not sure what other options you got but I think Giants could come up with a turnover and sacks and potentially hold Cards to low number.
OHM with the concussion to Mario Manningham is Victor cRUZ THE #2 GUY AT LEAST FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS?
Ohm (2:19 PM)
GARY, if Manningham isn't cleared, cRUZ WILL BE THE NO. 2 RECEIVER UNTIL HE COMES BACK. MANNINGHAM SAYS HE WILL PLAY SUNDAY BUT STILL NEEDS TO BE CLEARED.
BILL (EAGLE LAND)
WAS AT THE GAME SEEMED LIKE WILLIAMS WAS ABLE TO RUN DOWN MCCOY. DID HE SEEM LIKE HE WAS EVERYWHERE TO U?
Ohm (2:20 PM)
BILL, JACQUIAN DID A GOOD JOB OF CHASING DOWN GUYS. HE HAS SPEED AND HE DID SEEM TO BE AROUND THE FIELD QUITE A BIT. HE PLAYED A LOT OF SNAPS AND IMPRESSED THE COACHING STAFF.
Mike (Bloomington, IN)
Hey Ohm, how much Greg Jones are we going to see next week? Seemed like Fewell favored the 3 safety look for and didn't get many snaps? Do you see this as a pattern and if so, who's the QB of the defense?
Ohm (2:21 PM)
Mike, they've used Greg sparingly the last two weeks guarding vs pass more with three safeties and two linebackers. I am beginning to wonder if this is going to be Perry's base defense... Greg is strong vs the run but they feel more comfortable with Boley, Kiwanuka and then Jacquian coming in for Kiwanuka for the most part.
Jerry (Charlotte, NC)
Just wondering if there has been any talk that Nhamdi Asomough (sp?) is way overrated, that 2nd TD pass to Cruz looked like a bad throw by Eli into double coverage but the DB's never got there, I thought teams just never threw this guys way because it was pick six time???
Ohm (2:23 PM)
I don't know about the overrated talk because I don't cover the Eagles. On that play, Nnamdi let Cruz go in zone coverage with a safety on top. He then ran back and both defenders were behind Cruz. So it wasn't like Cruz had Nnamdi on him one-on-one. But Eli did throw it up for grabs with two defenders there. It was a bit of a dangerous pass but Cruz made a helluva play.
CRAZY WILLY (LYNDHURST)
Do you think that prince will be able to work right in once healthy? He hasn't played any football for like 8 months and never at pro level. Seems like we might be expecting an unfair amount from an unproven rookie.
Ohm (2:24 PM)
I would agree with that. He's had one practice basically. Guys need to temper their expectations. But I think because the secondary is so thin, he will get more of a chance than he might if TT and Bruce Johnson and Witherspoon were healthy.
yo ohmie how about them giants and i cant believe u picked the eagles
Ohm (2:25 PM)
Right, because so many of you guys were boasting how the Giants were going to beat the Eagles soundly. I thought it would be close and would go into the fourth quarter but thought all the injuries would catch up to them in the clutch and also no reason to believe Giants could make all the clutch plays with their No. 2 and No. 3 receivers out against a team they lost to 6 straight times. But as week progressed, I began wondering, can this team actually pull this out? Too many people were talking up the Eagles.
i thought greg jones looked good in week one..considering the circumstance at least. why did they feature him so much less this week? and does he have a chance to be the MLB of the future, a la steven tulloch?
Ohm (2:27 PM)
Answered this a little bit earlier but Perry feels more comfortable guarding against the pass with his three safeties and Boley and Kiwanuka in there to guard vs the run. Then when in obvious passing situations, he puts in Jacquian. So right now, it appears they are going away from the 4-3 unless they face a team that will run the ball a lot.
Marc Tyler (followup) (USC)
i got eagles d too. but for some reason i see eagles d letting san fran get some points.
Ohm (2:28 PM)
Tough one there... Eagles D could keep SF to a very low number. SF traveling to the East coast too... usually doesn't bode well for them. SF offense struggling.
The Gmen r the dream team with the best cover guy on the field the ohmster.
Ohm (2:28 PM)
LOL Tony. Who's the best cover guy? Aaron Ross? Webster?
Hey Ohm! I don't think antrel gets enough props/ He has done everything the Giants have asked of him (mostly playing out of position) for two years for the good of the team while hurting his individual value. Can Antrel get a little love?
Ohm (2:29 PM)
Writing about Antrel going back to Arizona later today. Look for it tonight on Espnnewyork.com
Baby Blue (NYC)
what's the status of Osi for this weekend? and how's Prince coming along? any timetable set for him too?
Ohm (2:29 PM)
Answered this earlier but Prince could be later this month, Osi possible for Sunday, got to see how knee responds if he can practice this week.
mike (ny ny)
Ive been looking for steve smith interviews after the game and have come up empty handed. Have you heard what he said after the game/this week? I hope he's furious
Ohm (2:30 PM)
It's in our Giants blog on Espnnewyork.com Scroll down and you will find a Smith blog with his reaction.
Mavrik2 (new york)
The Rams are most likely going to fire Spags at the end of the season. Will the Giants be the first to hire him in some compacity? I think he is one of the major reasons the Giants have not been as good since the year Plaxico shot himself.
Ohm (2:31 PM)
Let's not jump the gun yet on Spags Mavrik2. But let's say if that did happen, I think Perry would have to get a head coaching job somewhere for that to happen for him to come back as defensive coordinator. And if you are asking me if he comes back as head coach, well, that would mean Giants would have to miss playoffs for a third straight year and Coughlin gets fired.
Is Randy Moss an option?? If not, who else?
Ohm (2:32 PM)
Tim, I don't think so. Reese has always said he feels the team has enough young talent and Cruz backed him up on Sunday. They got Nicks, Manningham and Cruz and then Stokley, Devin Thomas and Jerrel Jernigan. Michael Clayton is also on the roster and then Barden comes back sometime after Week 6.
Cory (Albany )
Why do the G-Men never seem to get touchbacks when they kick off. Does Tynes not have the leg? Or is that a strategic plan that I don't get. Seems like maybe next year they need to find someone with more of a leg.. Any thoughts??
Ohm (2:33 PM)
I don't think that is the strategy. But Tynes did a decent job in Philly. I wonder if he's just starting to get healthy after the quad injury. Giants been going for it quite a bit on fourth downs so far too.
Jerry (Charlotte, NC)
After watching the first few weeks is it safe to say that the NFC East is going to be the toughest to win, there is not one truely weak team (no great teams either but all quite equal) to look forward to, there seems to be at least one in every division but this one??
Ohm (2:34 PM)
I'm not going to say toughest division but I will say that I always thought it was going to be tough. Dallas is only going to get better and same for Philly. Washington... well, the Skins are playing very well but I don't know if they will be able to keep it up as season progresses. But I've been impressed so far.
Ken (Brroklyn, NY)
A great win by the Giants in Philly! Proved you, and the other analysts wrong! I hope this team get healthier down the road. What is Prince Amukamara's status? When will he return?
Ohm (2:35 PM)
They did, very impressive... Prince perhaps end of month or early next month.
billy b (sparta)
you ohm ne chance that tuck is downplaying how hurt he is? could he miss some time due to the neck?
Ohm (2:36 PM)
Billy, Tuck is a very proud man. He definitely could be downplaying it for sure. I'd say this... if he says it's a recurring issue, and Coughlin said this could linger for a while, yes, I'd be concerned.
Steve Weatherford (via mobile)
Is it safe to go outside? Not every punt went out of bounds
Ohm (2:36 PM)
Bottom line, no punt returns for touchdowns.
Ohm (2:37 PM)
hang on for one second, be right back
Ohm (2:38 PM)
Ok, back, sorry about that.
Ohm- Any chance Herzlich sees the field soon on ST? Really anxious for him to get a shot.
Ohm (2:39 PM)
Yo know what Rob, I didn't get a chance to watch too much of special teams because I was writing but he's usually been in on special teams on punt and kickoff coverage. So I think he's been in there but I have to go back to the tape to see. He didn't have a tackle on Sunday.
Ken (Brroklyn, NY)
Would you put Cruz as the #3 WR slot? or would Stokley be a better option??
Ohm (2:40 PM)
Ken, I have a feeling that the Giants will use some Cruz, perhaps some Manningham and Stokley in slot. I think it could be a time share thing. Cruz looks more comfortable and more adept at making plays from Z position. But that's also where Manningham is.
Victor CRuz (jerz)
Ohm, would you start me in your fantasy league this week?
Ohm (2:40 PM)
You'll have my answer in the My Fantasy blog fantasy breakdown on Saturday in the Giants blog. Look for it there.
Ohm, what the drilly? This is the style of football that the GMen need to play to win games this year. Pound the rock 30 to 35 times, Eli throws for only 25 passes, efficient passes, I might add and play solid special teams. What about JPP? He kind of reminds me of a young J. Kearse with his freakish talents.
Ohm (2:41 PM)
Actually it was 25 runs, 23 passes on Sunday but who's counting? LOL. I think they do need to be balanced. I'd like to see a 100-yard game from a RB but the game plan was sound vs Eagles. Spread the ball around too. Running backs did damage in passing game as well. JPP, special yo. Special.
What ever happend with Kavika Mitchell workout? Are the Giants going to be making any movies getting a new line backer?
Ohm (2:42 PM)
They worked him out and apparently decided not to sign him or Chase. They feel they got enough at linebacker for now.
Dodge wuz home watchin the came hopin jackson returned one what u think ohmie
Ohm (2:42 PM)
Nah, I think Dodge is a good dude and wouldn't hate like that.
How do you think the giants will do the rest of this year after sunday's game?
Ohm (2:43 PM)
Well Jack, I predicted the Giants to win 10 games when the sked came out in April. And I stuck to that even after the injuries but wouldn't be surprised if they only won 9 games. The schedule gets brutal. They got to stay healthy. But if Osi and Prince come back soon, defense could get better.
Marc Tyler (followup to the followup) (USC)
Ohm, cmoooon man. you don't think alex smith is gonna be able to score against a confused eagles defense? how much does jet lag affect a team should be your next article.
Ohm (2:45 PM)
I think the Eagles defense could come back strong and correct a lot of their issues and it's Alex Smith dude. More concerned about Frank Gore but Gore hasn't been himself lately either. And don't count on a jet-lag story coming from me... LOL. I only do Giants and fantasy stuff and the occasional NBA story.
Ken (Brooklyn, NY)
I like the Giants defensive playbook on what they used on the Eagles, and they did a good job stopping the pass. Will you see a different approach of this D when the Eagles come into the Meadowlands?
Ohm (2:45 PM)
I think the base principles will be the same: Get pressure on Vick, stop the big play and pick your poison meaning, contain Vick and DeSean but give up something else like LeSean running.
Mavrik2 (new york)
Why does Perry Fewell continue to play mostly zone when his personnel is much better at playing man? He has not changed even though they have given up a ton of yards in the air. I think a good coordinator shapes his scheme to the players he has not the other way around.
Ohm (2:46 PM)
To tell you the truth, I don't have a ton of confidence in them playing man to man either. I don't mind the zone defense. As long as they are all on same page. Dude, they held DeSean Jackson to 2-30.
G MEN G MEN GMEN and the ohmster r goin 2 the superbowl
Ohm (2:47 PM)
Let's not get carried away kid. Giants fans did this last year after they got off to that blazing start. Make sure they don't let down in Arizona.
Ohm (2:48 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for the questions. If you have more fantasy questions, post it in the Giants My Fantasy Q&A blog that will be posted on Thursday and I will answer by Sunday morning. Thanks!
