Vote: MLB and Congress


Jose Canseco When MLB officials proudly announced baseball was coming back to Washington D.C., this probably isn't what they meant.

As the Washington Nationals continue training in Florida, some of baseball's biggest names will trek to the nation's capital to testify before Congress, in hearings related to the issue of performance-enhancing drugs. Jose Canseco, Jason Giambi, Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro, Curt Schilling, Sammy Sosa and Frank Thomas have been asked to testify, and those who don't agree voluntarily will be subpoenaed.

But will anything new come out of these hearings? Should the players be granted immunity? Will you watch?
  • 1) Do you think any substantial new information will come out of hearings before the House Government Reform Committee?
  • 2) Will you watch, or read transcripts, of the hearings?
  • 3) Would you be more interested in the hearings if Barry Bonds is subpoenaed to testify?
  • 4) Of the players currently expected to testify, whose testimony are you most interested in hearing?
  • 5) Should the players called to testify be granted immunity, if the alternative is many of them invoking their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination?
  • 6) Are these hearings a good use of Congress' time and resources?
  • 7) Do you believe Jose Canseco's testimony will match the details he provided in his book?
  • 8) Would you be less likely to follow baseball if it's confirmed that a large number of the game's stars used performance-enhancing drugs in the past?
