Vote: Is SportsNation Mad About Brackets?


SportsNation The folks who administer the SAT recently added an essay section to the infamous exam. But if they really want to measure the future prospects of America's youth, should they add a bracket component?

There will be plenty of analysis of each of the 65 teams in the men's NCAA Tournament between now and Thursday, but what about analysis of the people demanding all that analysis? Would anyone really care about Cincinnati vs. Iowa if it didn't represent a slot in their bracket? Filling out a bracket, whether for big-money office pools or merely friendly bragging rights, is an annual tradition in SportsNation. So let's conduct a little "bracketology" of our own.

  • May we feed your habit? Fill out a bracket for Men's Tournament Challenge or Women's Tournament Challenge.
    • 1) How will you fill out a bracket for the men's NCAA Tournament?
    • 2) When do you usually complete your final bracket?
    • 3) How much time do you take to research your picks?
    • 4) Do you usually pick at least one opening-round upset from a team seeded 13th or lower?
    • 5) Do you usually pick at least one team seeded fifth or lower to reach the Final Four?
    • 6) Will you gamble on the NCAA Tournament in any bracket-related pools?
    • 7) How much will you gamble on the NCAA Tournament?
    • 8) Would you be as interested in the NCAA Tournament if you were not in a bracket pool?
    • 9) Have you ever skipped a full day of work or school to watch one of the first two days of the NCAA Tournament?
    • 10) How much less productive are you at work or school during the opening week of the NCAA Tournament than in a normal week?
