The Indianapolis 500 was known as the "greatest spectacle in racing" long before Danica Patrick got behind the wheel of a race car, but the moniker seems to have taken on a whole new meaning this year.

Viewed by many as a floundering sporting institution in the wake of the IRL-CART split and the growth of NASCAR's popularity, the Indy 500 is back in the headlines this May, thanks in large part to the presence of Patrick in Row 2.
