Like the sweet smell of pine trees, the good cheer of friends and family and the horrendous parking at the shopping mall, college football bowl games are a staple of the holiday season. And while the four BCS games control the championshp picture, the other bowls often offer up the season's most memorable moments and fantastic finishes.

When: Dec. 28, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)

The Game: In its 13th year, the MasterCard Alamo Bowl will again be played at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas. The game has pitted representatives of the Big Ten and Big 12 for the last 10 years, with the Big Ten claiming victory in eight of those contests.

The Teams: Michigan (7-4, 5-3) finished in a tie for third in the Big Ten. Nebraska (7-4, 4-4) finished in a tie for second in the Big 12 North, with the fifth-best record in the Big 12.
