	Did Damon see the light, or convert to the dark side?

Even George Lucas might have thought this plot twist was a little too contrived. But the Yankees, a franchise many fans refer to as the Evil Empire, have lured away the bearded maverick who helped the upstart Red Sox finally win a championship of their own.

Johnny Damon is heading to the Big Apple.

By offering a four-year, $52-million deal to Damon, the Yankees convinced the center fielder and leadoff hitter to leave Boston, even though many observers had begun to view his return to Fenway as a forgone conclusion.
