Vote: Is Delmon Young's suspension appropriate?

Is Delmon Young's 50-game suspension fair?

Tampa Bay Devil Rays prospect Delmon Young received a 50-game suspension for throwing a bat at an umpire last month. It's believed to be the longest in the 123-year history of the International League. The suspension is retroactive to April 27, which is the day after the incident. He will be eligible to return to action on June 19.

This type of shocking behavior isn't totally new to the International League office. In 2001, Red Sox prospect Izzy Alcantara was suspended six games for a karate-style kick to the opposing catcher after being brushed back with a pitch.

At 20 years old, Young is one of the most-prized young talents in the game. He has yet to make his major-league debut and this suspension, which is expected to cost him approximately $145,000, likely will push the timetable back for his first game as a Devil Ray. His actions came against an umpire who was filling in because regular minor-league umpires have been on strike all season.

So, what do you think of the suspension, SportsNation? Did the International League get it right? How will this affect Young's career? And when will he make his major-league debut now? Answer the questions below and compare your thoughts with the rest of SportsNation.
