 Archie Griffin
Is Archie Griffin the best No. 45 ever?
Have you ever been involved in a discussion about the best player of a particular era or in a school's history? Sometimes, those discussions turn into ugly arguments.

ESPN.com college football writer Ivan Maisel wasn't looking to stir the pot, but thought it would be fun to look at the best players in college football history to wear each number, from one to 99. In the second installment, Ivan takes a look at Numbers 41-60 and offers his choice along with a handful of honorable mention selections.

We picked out five numbers that have many quality candidates from which to choose. We'd like to hear your opinions on the best to wear these numbers.

Was Jim Brown the best No. 44 in a Syracuse backfield, let alone college football history? Does No. 45 belong to passing legend Sammy Baugh or two-time Heisman winner Archie Griffin? And who wins a battle of linebackers against offensive linemen for No. 55? Vote below and see how your choices stack up against the rest of SportsNation!

Vote on other numbers: 1-20 | 21-40 | 61-80 | 81-100
