Vote: Which testing policy is the best?

Floyd Landis
What penalty should Floyd Landis face?
The recent news surrounding cyclist Floyd Landis and sprinter Justin Gatlin has put the competitive future of both athletes in serious doubt. Landis, who tested for an abnormal ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone during Stage 17 of the Tour de France, is facing a two-year ban and could be stripped of his Tour win. Gatlin, who tested positive for testosterone or other steroids after a relay race in Kansas in April, faces a possible lifetime ban.

But what does this all mean to the rest of the sports world? Will we ever see such strict penalties in the pro leagues - MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL? Should we see them? Those leagues' current standard of penalties for a positive steroids test on the first offense:

  • MLB: 50-game suspension without pay.
  • NBA: Five-game suspension.
  • NFL: Four-game suspension.
  • NHL: 20-game suspension.

Compared to the World Anti-Doping Agency's rule of a two-year ban for a first-time offense, we are asking you SportsNation, what you think of the current rules. Tell us what you think by voting below.
