Vote: Carolina Panthers in 2007

Panthers

The 2007 NFL schedule is out! And that means it's time to start overanalyzing each teams schedule and making predictions for '07, even before the NFL draft changes each team's makeup. But before we do that let's take a look at what SportsNation predicted for the Carolina Panthers in 2006 and what their final record actually looked like.

2006 SportsNation Prediction: 12-4
2006 Carolina Panthers record: 8-8

A lot of hype surrounded the Carolina Panthers heading into the 2006 season. The hype was not unjustified. This was a team that was one game away from going to the Super Bowl the previous year, with arguably the best wide receiver in the game, a quarterback coming off a Pro Bowl year, and a ferocious defense. So predicting a ten-plus win season was not at all foolhardy. Nevertheless, 14-2 is an incredibly difficult record for any team to reach. Granted the Panthers were a squad that experienced key injuries on both sides of the ball, but even at full strength 14-2 is pretty ambitious for a team that had to play six games against 2005 playoff teams.
