Marlins: No shot in 2008 but seem to have a competent front office and maybe the young guys will be good in a few years Pirates: Haven't had a winning season since 1992 Royals: 100 losses in four of past six years, but at least they're spending a little money (Gil Meche, Jose Guillen) Devil Rays: Tons of young talent but trapped in same division as Yankees and Red Sox Orioles: Well, at least the park is nice
4) The Tigers-Marlins deal proves:

It's not possible for a small-revenue team such as the Marlins to compete consistently Some owners want public money for a stadium but don't want to pay for a winning team Revenue sharing isn't doing enough to help small-market teams The Marlins are actually a shrewd franchise operating within its means

Awesome, that's $1 million less than Gil Meche will make Hey, at least they're not paying Barry Zito $14.5 million That's bad, but at least they're not paying $36 million for Richie Sexson, Adrian Beltre and Jarrod Washburn Not as absurd as the Yankees paying $21 million for Jason Giambi Sure, it's sad, but the Orioles are paying that much for Danys Baez and Jay Payton The Marlins are the only team paying players what they are worth as opposed to ridiculous salaries, like the Braves paying millions of dollars to the monetary sinkhole known as Mike Hampton
