As August gets rolling, the American League is crackling with hot pennant races. For starters, the Yankees and Red Sox are just 3½ games apart, and the Mariners and A's are separated by only four games. In the AL Central, three teams are within 4½ games, led by the surprising Royals. And the wild card race is even tighter.
Meanwhile, at the bottom of the standings, the Tigers are challenging the record for the fewest wins ever, and A-Rod's Rangers are miles back once again in the AL West.
