In the wake of the team's disappointing first-round exit, there had been some speculation that Phoenix would look to replace D'Antoni, although GM Steve Kerr had recently stated that he wished to keep the coach in Phoenix. Instead, D'Antoni, who led the Suns to four consecutive playoff appearances and made the team one of the most potent offensive sides in the league, is leaving town to coach the New York Knicks next season.
