Bale bought for record money
The long-rumored transfer of soccer star Gareth Bale from Tottenham to Real Madrid was confirmed Sunday, and it was no small move. The Spanish giants get a 24-year-old winger who can change a match in an instant. The North Londoners, still aiming at rival Arsenal, receive what is reported to be a world-record fee of 100 million euros -- more than $130 million -- for the Welshman. That's a lot of dinero for a player who might not be the best on his team; that would be Cristiano Ronaldo, for whom Real set the previous world transfer record. Then again, with Lionel Messi-touting Barcelona adding Neymar in the summer, Los Blancos needed to strike.
