Redskins fire Shanahan

The Mike Shanahan era is over in Washington. The Redskins fired their coach after the team plunged from NFC East champions to the division basement and lost their final eight games. While many will blame Shanahan's departure on his testy relationship with quarterback Robert Griffin III, it's worth noting that he went 24-40 in four seasons in Washington and posted the same winning percentage as his two predecessors, Steve Spurrier and Jim Zorn. It remains to be seen if the next coach -- the eighth hired by owner Daniel Snyder in his 15-year tenure -- will turn things around.
