As Stephen Colbert might say, we now know soccer is the world's biggest sport because the market says it is.

Take the contracts Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez signed, add a healthy bonus for Stephen Strasburg, and you're just scraping the underside of the transfer fee Real Madrid will pay Manchester United for the services of Cristiano Ronaldo.

For a mere $131.6 million (that's 80 million pounds, 93.9 euros or roughly 260,000 of the orange Monopoly bills), the Portuguese star will leave England and move closer to home.

to all the ppl who are comparing Real madrid to the Yankees. of course you cant buy wins but the major difference here is that while the yankees typically spend wayy too much on playes who already had a prime, Real has done a good job over the years of stealing ppl in their prime. The now have the best pair of attacking midfielders of any team in the world, national or club.

according to Bloomberg, they have borrowed the money to add to their 350 million Euro debt. Apparently the 200 million euro transfer money they are using this summer is the combination of the transfer money intended for the next 3 to 4 years. It's like the kid asking his parents for the pony in exchange for not getting a birthday or Christmas gift for the next 3 years and getting it.
